Opening remarks redux

02/24/07

Posted under Media, Media Nation

WE’VE just started the forum proper, but unfortunately it seems the promised PLDT wifi access is still unavailable. Where are those PLDT guys anyway, heh :)

So I’m just writing this down on WordPad first so I can upload it later when I go back to my room, where I activated the wifi access last night.

Media Nation organizer Chito Salazar of pagbabago@pilipinas asks the speakers to give an abridged version of their opening remarks last night, since some of the delegates were not present. He notes that the organizers decided to cut the program short last night and move the keynote speech of US reporter, editor and columnist James R. Dickenson to this morning, to give more people the chance to hear what he has to say.

Chito then asks Mario Taguiwalo, the spirit guide of Media Nation, to give an abridged version of his opening remarks last night.

I’ll post a video clip of Taguiwalo’s opening remarks later.

Next up is Ky Johnson, assistant representative of The Asia Foundation. Johnson quips that he was warned that he would be asked to give an abridged version of his speech, but that he has left his notes and that he wouldn’t repeat his opening speech. Instead, he welcomes the delegates and reiterates The Asia Foundation’s support.

Salazar gives a brief overview on Media Nation, which he believes is still the only “tri-media news event of its type.” He says this is a chance for the industry to discuss ways to improve the state of media in the country. He says that it’s always good to see new faces every year.

Salazar says that Media Nation is now on its fourth year and that it “seems it’s earned some weight already.” He quips that he hopes the sponsors would continue supporting the forum even when it’s already Media Nation 62.
