‘Losing your credibility is like losing your virginity’

JAMES DICKENSON talked about the need for media organizations to protect their credibility, because once this is is lost, it is hard to regain the faith of your audience.

Here’s a video clip of Dickenson’s plenary speech “Political Reporting or Reporting the Political: Experiences of the US.”

In the Q & A, Dickenson also noted that the rise of websites and blogs is having an adverse effect on newspapers and TV in the US. He said news organizations are cutting back on personnel at a time when they should be increasing and strengthening their coverage.

“And I regret having to report that,” he said.

Opening remarks redux

WE’VE just started the forum proper, but unfortunately it seems the promised PLDT wifi access is still unavailable. Where are those PLDT guys anyway, heh :)

So I’m just writing this down on WordPad first so I can upload it later when I go back to my room, where I activated the wifi access last night.

Media Nation organizer Chito Salazar of pagbabago@pilipinas asks the speakers to give an abridged version of their opening remarks last night, since some of the delegates were not present. He notes that the organizers decided to cut the program short last night and move the keynote speech of US reporter, editor and columnist James R. Dickenson to this morning, to give more people the chance to hear what he has to say.
