SINGAPORE-BASED ITJournoAsia.com has cited the latest entry from my CNET Asia tech blog.

New media slaying old media

Our knight in shining armour waves his sword frantically in a bid to ward off the menacing dragon. Suddenly, the dragon falls to the ground and appears dead.

As the knight walks towards the motionless dragon, the dragon looks up and says, “boring”.

Even dragons get bored with the old fairy tale, so what about today’s newspaper audience?

Joey Alarilla hopes to change all that with his new role over at the INQUIRER.net as the gaming and multimedia editor.

“Our goal is to make our content accessible to more readers on more platforms, and take advantage of different tools such as blogs, podcasts and online video, ” wrote Alarilla.

“As we all know, it’s all about you now, and we want to tailor our content to address the needs of different niches, while reaching out to Internet users who have enthusiastically made YouTube, blogging and social networking sites an integral part of their daily lives, but who are currently not interested in reading or watching the news because, well, they’re bored to death by the way it’s presented by Old Media or even some New Media companies.”

The Philippines news website boasts of a slew of multimedia services offering a mix of blogs and podcasts. The latter will also see the content being created through unconventional means.

“As I mentioned in this blog entry, mobile video is becoming a killer app for us, as we use mobile phones to take photos and videos for our site,” wrote Alarilla.

“Here’s a clip I took using my Nokia N90 of actress Alicia Mayer wearing a lettuce bikini to help People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to promote vegetarianism in the Philippines.”

Lettuce bikini on a beautiful actress? Without a doubt, that will surely catch the listless dragon’s attention.

true.. true.. even gurus at Madison Avenue are gearing up towards the onslaught of ‘personalized content’. This truly is the wave of the future and any industry that takes a ‘first mover advantage’ will surely have a huge advantage.
