PLANTATION BAY, Mactan, Cebu, Philippines–Sure, sometimes we all want to get away from it all, especially if you’re in a beautiful resort like Plantation Bay, but it’s always reassuring to know that technology is here to keep us connected to the outside world.

Not that I’m here on vacation. I arrived this afternoon together with other gaming journalists for the RAN Online global conference which kicks off tomorrow.

I’ll be blogging the event for our hackenslash gaming site, which we relaunched as a blog yesterday.

So thank God for the wifi connection in strategic locations around the resort (like the reception area) and the DSL connection I’m now using in my room, because I can continue editing sites, uploading videos and blogging for INQUIRER.net.

And in another example of how technology is unleashing the creative talents in all of us, here’s an impromptu video I made together with Joan Guevarra, who writes for Hinge Inquirer Publication’s GAME! magazine and who’s also here to cover IP e-Games’ RAN Online event. I took the video with my Nokia N90 — see how technology is leveling the playing field and ensuring you can produce instant videos even if you’re not rich enough to own a TV station?
