If you’re looking for your “dibidi, dibidi” fix, you might get found out by canine detectives.
After a one-month stint in Malaysia, two black Labradors named Lucky and Flo are now sniffing out pirated discs in the Philippines.
Here’s an excerpt from the Associated Press report:
Nervous stall owners scurried away or locked themselves behind steel shutters when the two Labradors, trained in Ireland to detect optical discs, led government agents and representatives of the Motion Picture Association-International through the Makati Cinema Square mall.
The two female dogs — wearing neon vests stamped with their names — sniffed through glass cabinets, bags and boxes. The pirated discs they found included recent releases such as “300″ as well as “Borat” and “Apocalypto.”
In the first hour alone, Edu Manzano, chairman of the Philippine government’s Optical Media Board, said they seized at least 300,000 pirated discs and arrested 11 people. They face charges of copyright infringement and violation of anti-pornography laws.
Hmm, wonder if they can follow you home after you buy pirated DVDs? Woof-woof!

You are right! its ALL FOR SHOW… but at least they made an effort, and how could that dog know the difference from a pirated and an original copy?

habang may computers, internet, cd recording gadgets/machines…..meron pirated disks….hindi mawala yan dahil result na yan ng technological innovations….besides marami mahirap sa pinas na kaya mag gawa pirated disk….but look where did the first recording came from??..its from usa and china….

Wow, the government needs dogs to figure out what everyone else in the entire city knows? Big whoop.
If the government wants to really pounce on piracy, they should really hit the mall owners who allow pirated goods to be sold within their buildings. Feigning ignorance? If they’re stupid enough to not know what’s going on in their malls, they oughta be shut down for good.
But of course, we can’t expect much from our government, given it’s track record.

Wow, I didn’t know they’re here already. It will be better if they can actually sniff out the factories producing these dvds/cds. Kaya lang baka mawalan na ng trabaho ang mga imbestigador natin dito. hehe

my little cousin in manila doesn’t need dogs to sniff out over 1,000,000 pirated discs… all she has to walk 20 meters from her house to quiapo… tadaaaaaa
