JUST wanted to share the good news: INQUIRER.net has made it to the finals of four categories in the regional MediaConnect Asia Technology Journalists Awards, which is organized by Singapore-based MediaConnect Asia and sponsored by Vignette.
INQUIRER.net is a finalist in the Best Technology Website category for its Technology channel, which is edited by INQUIRER.net executive editor and VP for Content Development Leo Magno.
Meanwhile, this blog, @play, is a finalist in the Best Technology Blog category.
Alex Villafania, our reporter for hackenslash, INQUIRER.net’s gaming site which I edit, is a finalist in the Best Gaming Journalist category.
And I’m a finalist in the Best Consumer Journalist category.
The MediaConnect Asia Technology Journalists Awards recognizes the work of tech journalists in six countries across the region: Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. In the individual category, the nominees were judged on the basis of three short-listed articles that were published from between April 2006 to April 2007. The publications nominated in the institutional categories were judged on the body of work that came out in that same period.

This year, it’s a Triple Threat match (pardon the pro wrestling term from World Wrestling Entertainment) involving Alex; the defending champion, last year’s Best Gaming Journalist Leung Wai-Leng of Straits Times’ Digital Life; and Wayne Santos of GameAxis, who also happens to be Pinoy.
The winners will be announced on July 27 at the Nirwana Gardens resort in Bintan island, Indonesia. The awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with MediaConnect’s Kickstart Asia Forum 2007. Alex and I will be flying to Bintan (actually, we’re flying to Singapore and then taking a ferry boat to Bintan, heh) to cover this information technology forum and attend the awards ceremony.
Congratulations to all the finalists, and we’d like to thank the judges for this honor. We’re happy that the Philippines is being recognized, and we’ll just hope for the best.
