BINTAN, Indonesia–”LIVECASTING is to TV what blogging was to journalism.”
This was declared by Steve Ng, founder of The Digital Movement, in his presentation for the Web 2.0 session of Kickstart Asia 2007.
Ng pointed out that livecasting is revolutionizing broadcasting by allowing ordinary people to become their own TV networks. In particular, Ng cited Ustream.tv.
“Ustream.tv allows people to livecast events using just a webcam,” Ng said.
Other Web 2.0 services that Ng cited were Tumblr, which allows people to create microblogs in seconds, and Twitter, the social networking app that is becoming increasingly popular because it allows people to know what you’re currently doing.
The beauty of Web 2.0 is not just the ease in content creation, but also the fact that the content we create is automatically distributed.
“All these platforms are inherently social,” Ng said.

I’ve been lifecasting since June and I find it enjoyable. I don’t stream based on a particular topic like the other shows in ustream. I just turn my cam on and let my viewers in on what I’m doing. It’s like a visual twitter. So far it has been a great experience.
