Morning paper? The future’s online, baby

- Media, TV -

I HATE to say I told you so, but, well, I told you so, heh.

We have a spate of stories today on the transition from traditional media, such as newspapers and TV, to online media. Here’s an excerpt from “Digital, video downloads to be morning paper of the future.”

WASHINGTON — Reading your newspaper over a steaming cup of coffee will be a thing of the past in years to come as video and digital technology replace the print media of today, experts say.

Is the boob tube the noob tube?

- Media, TV, YouTube -

WHAT will happen to the boob tube and traditional broadcast companies in the face of the mad rush to offer online video and mobile TV?

Remember what happened to the dinosaurs? Yup, they were huge and you might have thought they would rule forever, but even giants die out in the face of catastrophic change. These days, the choice is simple: Evolve or die.

The signs are all around us. Smart Communications is offering its mobile TV service.  Dream TV is following suit, as Alex Villafania wrote in his Infotech article.

My reply to GMANews.tv editor in chief Malou Mangahas

- Blogosphere, GMANews.tv, INQUIRER.net, Media -

UPDATED: Revised sentence to “During the recording of the Loren Legarda podcast, we were surprised when TV crews from GMA 7 and ABC 5 [went to our office] without even informing us.” Thanks to nagtataka for the heads up.

I ALREADY posted this as a reply to Malou Mangahas’ comment on “GMA 7, ABC 5 reporters, TV crew at INQUIRER.net office” but I figure, what the heck, let’s make it a full-blown post. Read her comment first, OK? She has a blog, by the way, over at the GMANews.tv Bloggers Network, which she last updated, as of this writing, on… Jan. 27.

Well, a visit from GMANews.tv editor in chief Malou Mangahas — what an event indeed!

That’s a rather dramatic opening: “An incredible amount of vermin and venom marks the tortured telling of this story.” Is it alliteration week? Is this how we should write, Malou?

Set your own appointments, Old Media scavengers

- Eleksyon 2007, Media, Podcasts -

THANKS to Mike Abundo and Abe Olandres for blogging about the invasion the INQUIRER.net office is experiencing from other media outlets, namely broadcast networks GMA 7 and ABC 5.

Here’s an excerpt from Mike’s blog post “TV Reporters Scavenging YouTube Scraps“:

I hope the Inquirer can keep these vermin out of their building. The last thing this country needs is old media scavengers pulling down new media pioneers.

Thanks, Mike; actually it was more of Eleksyon 2007 podcast scraps, though we also take behind-the-scenes footage of the audio podcast recording sessions for our INQUIRER.net Videos YouTube channel. But yup, you used the perfect word, “scavenger.”

GMA 7, ABC 5 reporters, TV crew at INQUIRER.net office

- Eleksyon 2007, Media, Podcasts, Videos -

OUR Eleksyon 2007 podcast recording sessions are private affairs, not press conferences which are open to the public or members of other publications. Which is why we’re surprised that representatives from other media outlets have gone to the INQUIRER.net office on several occasions.

To prevent these intrusions, we’ve indicated clearly in the letter of invitation we send to candidates who will guest on our podcasts that this is a private affair. Which is why I was surprised to find members of other media outlets once more inside the INQUIRER.net office during the recording of Mike Defensor’s podcast this afternoon.

Here are two videos of the GMA Network and ABC 5 reporters and TV crew members waiting to ambush Defensor after his podcast interview.
