Probe TV on the Web

- Internet, Media, TV -

UPDATE: Added comment on auto-play.

HERE’S a cool Philippine video site that shows how TV networks can make the transition to the Web. Visit ProbeTV.com. (Well, OK, except it seems the videos are on auto-play, which can be pretty annoying, hmm.)

Check out these clips.

Kudos to Probe TV. And thanks to Karen Borbon for the heads up :)

TV or not TV: Canceled show finds new life online

- Internet, Social Networking, TV, Videos -

THEY’VE already made TV history as the creators of “thirtysomething” and “My So-Called Life.” That didn’t stop ABC, however, from canceling Marshall Herskovitz (who has also produced a number of movies, most notably “Traffic,” “I am Sam,” “The Last Samurai” and “”Blood Diamond”) and Edward Zwick’s (who directed “The Last Samurai” and “”Blood Diamond,” as well as “Glory,” “Legends of the Fall” and “About Last Night…”) show, then called “1/4 Life,” in 2005 after the pilot.

Well, who’s laughing now?

The two have ditched the old medium and resurrected their baby, now known as “Quarterlife,” as a Web show. In fact, it’s more than just an Internet series, but also a social network — check out their site. Here’s their trailer:

Teaming up with Yahoo! for our new video service

- TV, Yahoo! -

ivdo-home.jpegIT took a bit longer than we anticipated, but we’re happy to finally announce the launch of our new INQUIRER.net VDO service in partnership with Yahoo!

iVDO is part of our long-term goal of making our content available on all platforms. It’s part of our whole multimedia thrust, which has been our goal since the beginning, though of course as you know some things happened along the way, heh :)

But now that we’ve completed the transition to INQUIRER.net under our new company Inquirer Interactive Inc., you’re going to see even bigger things ahead. And we couldn’t be happier that we found a partner like Yahoo!

Apple + YouTube = Future of TV?

- Apple, TV, YouTube -

TWO of the icons of cool are joining forces, as Apple announces it will bring YouTube to the boob tube via Apple TV.

Is this a glimpse of the future of TV? Where user-generated content will be as widely available on your TV set as they are online.

Here’s an excerpt from the Reuters story:

Create your own video shows with kyte

- Internet, Mobile, TV, Web 2.0 -

HERE’S another reason to give up the boob tube a.k.a. noob tube.

Check out kyte, which allows you to produce your own online shows and chat with your viewers. As this Webware.com article puts it, it’s like live blogging meets social networking.

What’s even cooler is that you can also create the interactive channels on your mobile phone, as kyte supports certain Nokia and Sony Ericsson models. Click here to find out if your phone supports kyte mobile and to download the mobile app.

Here’s an excerpt from the Webware article:

Each Kyte.tv channel owner can create as many channels as they want and add music, photos, videos, polls and text. A channel consists of a display screen, a playlist, and integrated chat room. Each channel also gets its own custom URL and branding, which is chosen by the channel owner. Alternately, there’s embed code to place the entire Kyte.tv experience on a social networking profile or blog post (like we’ve done after the break).

One thing to note about adding music: you can’t upload your own tracks. Instead you have to pick from a small selection of music from indie music service IODA. It’s a lot like the music integration you get with Photobucket’s video Remix tool.

What Kyte.tv has done really well is the live chat room. While it’s lacking admin controls, and private conversation options, you’re getting the same chat experience on your computer and your phone. It’s also really easy to use, as long as you’re handy with your phone’s keypad.
