BEAUTY is in the eye of the beholder, but of course we all had our own picks for Miss Universe 2007. The beauty pageant is over and we'd like to extend our congratulations again to Miss Japan Riyo Mori. Here's a pic courtesy of Agence France-Presse. riyo-mori.jpg But if you could be one of the judges, who would you have crowned Miss Universe 2007? Who impressed you most among the contestants? And why do you believe your pick should have won? This is all just for fun, OK? In my case, apart from our own Anna Theresa Licaros, my pick was actually Miss Korea Honey Lee, heh :) Ah, well.
Update: The Miss Universe 2007 pageant has ended. Scroll down to see our blog account of the telecast. (Keep refreshing this page to get the latest updates as we blog the Miss Universe 2007 pageant. The ABS-CBN live telecast of the Miss Universe 2007 pageant is scheduled to begin today, May 29, at 9: 30 a.m., Manila Time.) THE 77 beauties vying to be crowned Miss Universe 2007 are already backstage, preparing for the opening number, Dyan Castillejo, reporting live from Mexico City, said in ABS-CBN's Magandang Umaga Pilipinas program. Magandang Umaga Pilipinas showed video clips of some of the contestants backstage and the preparations for the show. This year's pageant will be hosted by Vanessa Minnillo and Mario Lopez. One of the celebrity judges is Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres, whom many Filipinos better know as a former TV show host in the Philippines and the former girlfriend of popular Philippine actor Aga Muhlach. Aga incidentally ended up marrying another beauty queen and now talk show host and commercial model Charlene Gonzales, who represented our country in Miss Universe 1994, which was held here in Manila. Miss Universe 2006 Zuleyka Rivera of Puerto Rico is on hand to crown her successor. The Philippine bet this year is Anna Theresa Licaros. * * * The Miss Universe 2007 live telecast begins. The 77 candidates come out in their national costumes and introduce themselves. Miss Philippines Anna Theresa Licaros, 22, dressed in a terno, introduces herself. Hosts Vanessa Minnillo (who incidentally is half-Filipina), a former Miss Teen USA and one of the stars in the upcoming movie "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," and Mario Lopez, are introduced. *** Commercial break. *** Mario Lopez says an estimated one billion viewers are watching the Miss Universe 2007 in over 170 countries around the world. "So it's safe to say that these women right now are literally uniting the world,” Vanessa Minnillo quips. Mario also brings up the fact that he was the host when Vanessa was competing in Miss Teen USA. Vannessa quips that she wasn't going to mention it but now that Mario has, she reminds him that he said the wrong state when he announced Vanessa. He says that he made the mistake because of her beauty. Miss Universe 2006 Zuleyka Rivera is introduced with video clips and then makes her appearance on stage. *** Mario and Vanessa announce the names of the candidates who have made it to the Top 15. They are, in random order, the representatives from Venezuela, Thailand, Denmark, Nicaragua, Angola, Slovenia, USA, Brazil, India, Mexico, Japan, Ukraine, Tanzania, Korea, and Czech Republic. *** Commercial break. *** Video footage of the fashion shoots of the Top 15 candidates is shown. Vanessa and Mario introduce the panel of judges. Fans of the NBC sci-fi series "Heroes" will get a kick out of the fact that James Kyson Lee, who plays Ando, the loyal friend of Hiro Nakamura, is one of the judges. An advisory flashes on the screen asking viewers to please bear with them as they are experiencing audio signal difficulties due to the live feed. *** Commercial break. *** And we're back. Vanessa says that for the past three weeks, Mexico City has been the playground of the Miss Universe candidates. Mario adds that the candidates quickly fell in love with Mexico City. Video recounts the history of Mexico City. Miss Philippines Anna Theresa Licaros is named Miss Photogenic. Vanessa and Mario explain that viewers from all over the world have logged on to NBC.com to vote online. licaros-1.jpgWE have high hopes for Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Anna Theresa Licaros, and we'll be rooting for her all the way as she aims to make the country proud in the Miss Universe 2007 competition in Mexico City on May 28 (May 29, Manila Time). Don't you just love her? :) You hear it all the time, but in her case she really is beauty and brains. Check out her Miss Universe vlog (video blog). Here's a copy of her interview on the Miss Universe site:
What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? Reading, collecting fairy tales, case digest making, writing, and playing Scrabble, Backgammon and Mahjong. I also enjoy taking public transportation. I actually feel sexiest and most attractive after riding the metro rail transit or taking the Jeep, which is a form of public transportation in the Philippines. I also attribute a sense of empowerment in moving around by myself and a feeling of independence when I commute. What is your career ambition? I would like to become a successful lawyer someday, engaged in a trailblazing practice focused on children's rights cases. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was raised in a small town east of Manila called Cainta. It is located in the province of Rizal and is very near the city where I went to school. Cainta is what you would call a suburban area, and I enjoyed my childhood there because of the peaceful and calm environment and its proximity to the hustle and bustle of the city. My childhood memories include lazy afternoons relaxing and playing in our backyard, playing house and barbecue picnics with my family. What do you want the judges to know about you? I am a very dynamic person. When I decide to do something I commit myself to it and I really follow through.

Go, Miss Philippines!
CONGRATULATIONS to Patty Ortega, the female winner of the Century Superbods 2007 search. Here's a photo of Patty taken by Luigi Onglao that came out in the Philippine Daily Inquirer. century1.jpg Here's an excerpt from the story:
Ortega, the female winner of this year’s Century Tuna Superbods search, brought down the house with her candid answers during the question-and-answer portion of the brand’s annual search for image models. The commercial and print-ad model, with her snappy answers and morena features, instantly won over the audience when she announced that she was “not half-American, or half-European or half anything.”

lindsay-1.jpgIS Lindsay Lohan the world's hottest woman? Maxim thinks so. How about you? Here's an excerpt from the San Francisco Chronicle story:
According to Maxim magazine, at least this month, she's the hottest woman in the world. The "Georgia Rule" actress-troublemaker tops the magazine's eighth annual "Hot 100" list, a ranking by editors weighing buzz and beauty for women in film, TV, music, sports and fashion. "There is no other star in the world (who) causes more of a stir in the public eye than Lindsay," said Maxim Editor in Chief Jimmy Jellinek in a statement. "Her every move is watched and reported on."

missearth.jpgSHE'S beautiful -- and she loves Mother Earth. Say hello to Miss Philippines-Earth 2007 Jeanne Harn. Here's an excerpt from the Philippine Daily Inquirer article written by Armin Adina that will come out in the newspaper's Entertainment section tomorrow.
JEANNE Harn, newly-crowned Miss Philippines-Earth 2007, has laughed off rumors that she is an unpopular candidate in the recently concluded pageant. The talk started circulating after viewers reportedly noticed non-winning candidates congratulating Jeanne’s court but appeared to be ignoring her during the coronation. “The telecast was cut short and the viewers saw only the part where they approached the rest of the Top 5 (Miss Air Krystle Ann Dizon, Miss Water Joyce Nocomura, Miss Fire Sarah Katrina Miñoza and Miss Ecotourism Ana Katrina Bautista),” Jeanne explained. Host Piolo Pascual had prompted her victory walk at that point and she was getting ready at the far end of the stage, away from the other candidates. “I did not proceed with the walk and tried to reach out to the other girls, but they were too engrossed in all the fanfare,” she said. “But they all congratulated me afterwards.” She regretted not having her photo taken with her family after the program “because the stage was dismantled right after photographers took pictures of the Top 5 winners.” The 5’7” model and advertising executive got the loudest cheers from the audience in the University of the Philippines Theater in Quezon City—complete with drumbeat—whenever her name was announced during the competition.

SOME people might not want to admit it, but booth babes are one of the main attractions in trade shows and conventions, heh. Here are some YouTube clips of booth babes.
NOW this guy's a true entrepreneur. Due to the drought, residents of Brisbane, Australia have been banned from washing their cars. Strip club owner Warren Armstrong, however, has risen to the occasion by introducing "Bubbles 'n Babes," a nude car wash service that is environmentally-friendly because it makes use of recycled water, according to the captions that accompanied these Agence France-Presse photos. Of course, the photos show a bikini-clad employee for obvious reasons, heh. car-wash-1.jpg car-wash-2.jpg car-wash-3.jpg car-wash-4.jpg

sofiepic.jpgWAS happy to hear from Sofie Garrucho that FHM Philippines has launched her hot, hot blog. Here's an excerpt from her first post. Also got the photo from her first blog entry:
First of all, I am so honored to be chosen by FHM Philippines to blog for them. FHM people, thanks for entrusting this to me. I will do my best to make it very entertaining and to make it into something that people will go back for more. Secondly, to those who supported me from the very beginning of the first FHM GND contest to the FHM 100 Sexiest last year, I hope you guys will continue to give that undying support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. To FHMBB members, I am very grateful to you for being there with me these past 3 years. Guys, here’s another add-on for spicing up your day! *kisses* What is my blog going to be about? Well, it will basically start off on anything under the sun. But I assure you that I won’t be scratching out that sexy-naughty feel, just like in our favorite site FHM.com.ph There are lots of things to watch out for in my blog. I have been waiting for this myself. I would be opening up more of myself to the public. I would be sharing my opinions to everybody, share all my insights, and even post my own personal confessions. (you got it right, confessions! *smile*) What I’m really excited about is, writing and sharing how I became the Sofie that you have come to know. But for sure I won’t bore you with reading things that are all about me. I may be a little nervous about these things but I will never let myself get affected on how people will negatively react about me.
And here's an excerpt from her latest post:
Boracay. . . where the sun is golden, the waters pure and blue and the white sand is dazzling soft, truly paradise! But yeah if you’re already like a father of three, divorced or separated, a spinster or a retiree - this is what probably comes first in your mind when you go there. But in my case, hell no! *grin* It doesn’t mean that I don’t know how to appreciate nature’s beauty (believe me, I’m a nature lover *smile*). It’s just that when I hear the word Boracay, it means more than a beautiful sunset. To me it’s party and fun time with or without the sun. Yay! *hands in the air dancing* I’m sure a lot of you out there will agree.
Congratulations, Sofie! See you again soon :)
