Rooting for Anna Theresa Licaros

05/24/07

Posted under Anna Theresa Licaros, Beauty Queens, Miss Universe

licaros-1.jpgWE have high hopes for Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Anna Theresa Licaros, and we’ll be rooting for her all the way as she aims to make the country proud in the Miss Universe 2007 competition in Mexico City on May 28 (May 29, Manila Time).

Don’t you just love her? :) You hear it all the time, but in her case she really is beauty and brains.

Check out her Miss Universe vlog (video blog).

Here’s a copy of her interview on the Miss Universe site:

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

Reading, collecting fairy tales, case digest making, writing, and playing Scrabble, Backgammon and Mahjong. I also enjoy taking public transportation. I actually feel sexiest and most attractive after riding the metro rail transit or taking the Jeep, which is a form of public transportation in the Philippines. I also attribute a sense of empowerment in moving around by myself and a feeling of independence when I commute.

What is your career ambition?

I would like to become a successful lawyer someday, engaged in a trailblazing practice focused on children’s rights cases.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I was raised in a small town east of Manila called Cainta. It is located in the province of Rizal and is very near the city where I went to school. Cainta is what you would call a suburban area, and I enjoyed my childhood there because of the peaceful and calm environment and its proximity to the hustle and bustle of the city. My childhood memories include lazy afternoons relaxing and playing in our backyard, playing house and barbecue picnics with my family.

What do you want the judges to know about you?

I am a very dynamic person. When I decide to do something I commit myself to it and I really follow through.

Just ignore of those who have negative comments on Terry. I’m so proud of her. Terry has a pure heart. Winning Ms. Photogenic is great. I hope that she will enter a showbiz career like Miriam Quiambao and Precious Quigaman. Terry Licaros is one of the most beautiful and mos decorated girls here in PH!!!!!

I felt disappointed about Anna Theresa Licarios. It’s 34 years nang crownless ang bansa natin sa Miss Universe. Almost equalized with India, Thailand, Australia & Japan! Hanggang Miss Photogenic na lang ba tayo umaasa sa award na iyon! It’s just a consolation prize for her pero hanggang doon na lang ba?

The Binibining Pilipinas Organization must reform for a better change. Stella Marquez-Araneta must step down of that organization!

Ano ba naman itong mga tao dito, kita nyo naman na maganda talaga yung Koreana eh. Mas maganda pa nga sa Haponesa. Okay naman si Ms Licaros pero kulang pa sa appeal. Next time we should send someone who is really tall, confident and meztisahen pero pinay na pinay parin ang looks. Dapat elegante ang costume tulad ng mga sinusuot ni imelda marcos noon, modernize nga lang. Mahirap humanap ng prize candidate coz “intelligence” lang gusto ng mga Filipino judges eh.

Hi anna! For me you are supposed to be the winner but that is life you can’t really win everybody all the time. There is always time for everyone. But since you are taking up law, probably you will excel more in lawyering than being a beauty queen. Welcome aboard panyera!

I still believe that Terry still deserves to be in the top 15 , at least, (Dapat nga siya ang maging Miss U eh). It so happened nga lang that the format of the present Miss Universe is far different from previous Miss Universes where the judges chose beauty, brain and elegance. Now, nobody knows what’s the basis in choosing the Miss U ( influence, politics and business dealings with Donald Trump perhaps ). Moreover, just a flick of the thumb judges scores can be changed instantaneously ,eh, scores are not flashd on screen compared before and the common and final question raised to top 3 no longer holds true unlike before that there is this common question and top 3’s are in the sound proof booth — which tests the substance of each top 3’s answers. So to sum it all, had Terry been in the previous Miss U’s format (prior to Donald Trump’s Miss U), she could have bagged the crown. For us, Terry is still our Miss Universe. Damn with Donald Trump - stupid as he is.

I would still like to congratulate Ms. Anna Licaros for representing the Philippines! You’re still a beauty with brains for all of us!.. well it was held in mexico and maybe they’re not to fond of philiippines right now after pacquiao ate their boxers alive!..ehe.. anyways, more power to Ms. Ana!

    ria casandra Says:

hi ate, if u wnt to be called ate..if not i’ll call u in general..MS ANA THERESA..well from the start i already expected that you’ll be the ms. universe but actually you are already a ms. universe in every Filipino’s eyes because you’ve proved yourself until the end of the pageant. Also to the giving of awards that people vote you as the ms. photogenic among other contestants you had been chosen.
Ms. universe for a 13 yr. old girl means, a woman w/ a suiting personality, you act as you are no pretentions, have looks but especially the capability to answer questions, and w/ confidence.
I will continue supporting you, take care always and God Bless You Always..

my previous comment was deleted? why, because i spoke of the truth that Ms. Universe is also about politics, whichever country has the most of American interest will surely win the crown, deserving or not.

  24. 12
    idol Says:

Just what Ms. Gloria Diaz told her , just enjoy the experience and take a lot of photo souvenirs , with or withou the crown, for as long as she did her best to represent her country, Ms. Philippines is already a winner. After all, what is beautiful to us may not be beautiful to others aside from the fact that beauty pageant is also about politics and American fascism, in 1960 - 70s, Philippines is the apple of the eye of Americans which resulted to our bets winning the title but after that, even when Miriam Quiambao deserved to win the title, she did not get the crown.

  25. 11
    Gidget Says:

I think she is the best, they are just biased to Philippine beauty, I think. Global beauties favors Korea, I don’t know why, they said she went through plastic surgery and in her interview video, she looks like she’s reading her answers and no eye contact. I hope Anna will surprise everyone, let’s pray that she takes home tge crown and bring our country pride.

    Aaron Says:

Well, for sure, since we are not there in Mexico and can see how all the candidates are faring out, we really can’t say who’s gonna get into the semifinals round and who’s not; however, it can’t be doubted that Ms. Licaros has a very big chance of making it into the semifinals. To those who don’t think she will get into the semifinals, don’t you think that’s a tad bit pessimistic and it’s not even factual, unless you’ve seen all of the candidates and how they are as competitors. On the other hand, supporting our very own Ms. Licaros rightly because of her outstanding achievements and thus, just representation of our majestic country, is quite the most logical and better option. Now isn’t it? Lighten up. Go Anna!

I have read the interviews of all the contestants and many have shown a lot of intelligence and depth. I believe the interview is crucial in deciding whether one will be included in the semi-final round. I have expected a lot more and better response from Miss Philippines but I am not quite impressed. I pray she will make it as a semi-finalist and really make to outshine, outsmart and outdo the others.

  31. 5
    doc Says:

you know what, it is better to have her than anyone else with only beauty to show. Maybe those who are attacking her are just showing the typical Filipino attitude of “inggit”. A cum laude grad, a law student, UPian at that. Inggit lang kau no! Kayo ba both beauty and brains? I doubt, iilan lang ganun. Let us just show our support. Okey!

  32. 4
    Ian Alvarez Says:

I doubt that she’ll place in the semi-finalist. The Japanese delegate Riyo Mori is more prepared in terms of training and wardrobe. Kudos to Inez Ligron, Riyo’s National Director.

Ana’s mom was interviewed over TFC and said that Ana would nail down the interview. Unfortunately, interview is just one of the criteria in selection of semi-finalist. Ana could not also claim that she’s the only brain and beauty. There’s Miss USA, Rachel Smith who’s also a Magna Cum Laude and was once a volunteer in Oprah Winfrey School in South Africa.

  33. 3
    Sphinx Says:

She’s not a favorite in Mexico, it was korea also who was best in interview.

  34. 2
    Mark Says:

I always believe that women can do a better job just as much as men can if not greater. Keep up the good work.

More power to you, Anna. Go Philippines!

  35. 1
    Ed Says:

It’s nice to hear that the Philippine rep for the Miss Universe is both beauty & brains,it just shows how far the Filipino woman has achived.Gone were the days of stereotype typical woman, staying @ home & taking care of the children. Now we have 2 women Presidents, soon to be 4 senators! To all our mothers, daugthers, nieces, grandmas,Mabuhay!May you continue to blaze the path of glory.
