SHE may be best remembered as Tom Hank’s bitchy girlfriend in “You’ve Got Mail” (trapped-in-the-elevator scene, she was missing her Tic Tacs). But then again I won’t blame you if you remember Meg Ryan more. Because she had blond hair and was the one receiving all those e-mail messages?
If Parker Posey were any luckier, she could’ve been Sandra Bullock in “Speed” or Renee Zellwegger in “Jerry Maguire.” But she’s too indie for all that, and so she’s one of those actresses that show up in arty, indie films like most recently in “The Oh in Ohio” and yes, Richard Linklater’s classic slacker movie “Dazed and Confused” (which I think I’ve seen already but cannot recall exactly). She belongs in the same league as indie staples like Chloe Sevigny or Joey Lauren Adams.
Since indie is slowly becoming mainstream these days, the New York Times justifiably did a profile on Parker Posey recently. You could also check out this New York Times interview in MP3 format to hear Parker discuss her role in the movie “Broken English.”
P.S. She was a villain in the most recent Superman movie. If you still don’t remember her, then just Google.
