TO PROMOTE vegetarianism, (l-r) Istara Bon Gundry, Ashley Fruno and Katrina Lugartos of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wore lettuce bikinis and held a protest walk at Plaza Miranda in Quiapo Friday.

I think those who first wore the lettuce bikinis are probably truly concerned for the welfare of animals but the real intentions of those who followed, including these women, are now questionable.

I could have immediately turned vegetarian had I been in Quiapo when the ladies displayed their wares. Why, I could have immediately feasted on those fresh lettuce leaves minus the thousand islands.

Iligtas daw ang mundo, saan? I do not know what these women are promoting by wearing scant lettuce bikinis exposing their flesh being feasted on by the public especially the males. Are they doing it so talent scouts might spot them for a possible movie contract in the guise of having the noble objective of saving the earth by convincing the people to go vegetarian? They deserve to be on the beach instead of in the crowded streets of Quiapo.
