By Marinel Cruz Inquirer wendy-1.jpgMANILA, Philippines--"My fans support me. With them, I’m sure it’s not true that the whole country hates me,” Wendy Valdez, controversial “Pinoy Big Brother Season 2” housemate, tells Living Stars. In fact, Wendy says, her fans shower her with gifts -- clothes, perfumes, cosmetics, accessories and books. They also send food to the set of her ABS-CBN soap, “Margarita.” Wendy incurred the ire of PBB viewers after quarreling with two female housemates, Ge-Ann Abraham and Bea Saw. During the PBB “Big Night” at the Araneta Coliseum, Wendy had to beg the crowd to stop booing her. Since she joined show biz, Wendy says she’s had to beef up her wardrobe. “Also, I used to just go for blacks, whites and browns; now I have other colors, too.” ACCESSORIES I prefer to wear only earrings, but now I have lots of accessories ... for work. Fans who knew from the TV show that I love earrings sent a couple over. One pair that is memorable to me is the one I wore when I returned to the House (shows a pair of silver chandelier earrings). I’d rather wear big earrings than necklaces. Big earrings divert people’s attention from my big ears (laughs). Big belts make the waist look slim, especially when you put the buckle on the side. If I had my way I wouldn’t buy belts in colors other than white, black or brown because I will not be able to reuse them on TV. SCENTS My newest bottle of Clinique Happy Heart is a gift from a group of fans. The citrus scent goes well with my body chemistry. I alternately use this with my other favorites, Dolce and Gabanna’s Light Blue and DKNY’s Be Delicious. SHOES I always end up buying black or white shoes whenever I shop. But I think I should start buying shoes in other colors, too, like light blue, red or green. When wearing high-heeled shoes, you should put your weight on your toes, not on your heels. This helps you avoid straining your legs. When you get used to it, you can even walk on pebbled steps. BAGS I got most of my bags in Bangkok. They’re so cheap. I used to like small bags, but now that I’m working, I get to use only the big ones. I like putting all the things I need in one bag. DRESSES This black-and-gold dress is memorable because I wore it when Bruce (Quebral, PBB housemate and Wendy’s boyfriend) got evicted. I didn’t like the red tube dress that Mommy bought for me but it got a lot of compliments. wendy-2.jpg My ABS-CBN bosses instructed me to buy dresses for TV appearances. I noticed that the outfits I picked were mostly halters and really low V-necks. I also have a couple of pieces that fans gave me. SKIRTS I hardly wear skirts. But I’m thinking of the perfect occasion to wear a couple of knitted ones from a fan. JEANS I love jeans. They are easy to wear and can be matched with just about any blouse or dress. I used to have trouble looking for nice boot-cut jeans because most of them are too short for me. I’m glad that skinny jeans are in fashion now. Ask Tina

tina-fey.jpgTINA FEY, that is. Who says comediennes need to look funny to be funny? Here's a photo of Tina courtesy of Agence France-Presse. "30 Rock," the NBC sitcom she created and wrote, won Best Comedy series in the recent Emmys, beating out male-oriented fare like "My Name is Earl" and "The Office." Fans of "SNL" ("Saturday Night Live") know her from hosting Weekend Update with -- somewhat funny-looking -- Amy Poehler. And she was also responsible for the story in "Mean Girls," that Lindsay Lohan movie before she went from teenage drama queen to teenage rehab queen. Tina Fey's most gorgeous asset, then, is her wit and sense of humor. Which is way sexier, even if she dons that geeky, granny glasses look. Here's a video of Tina's funniest clips from Weekend Update provided by NBC. You can ask her anything if you want on this blog by the New York Times. Including maybe about Lindsay Lohan. Here are pics of Tina from the "30 Rock" site. nup_105547_0010.jpg tina-1.jpg rok_1004_011.jpg nup_105547_0004.jpg Check out this Couch Potatoes blog entry for a sneak peek at the Season 2 premiere of "30 Rock."
UPDATE: Added more clips. ONE thing's for sure: Alicia Silverstone isn't clueless about veggies. alicia-peta.jpg Alicia bares all in the first naked vegetarian testimonial ad from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Here's the video from the PETA site.

Like most people, I wasn’t always a vegetarian, but I’ve always loved animals. If you ever have a chance to meet a cow, pig, turkey, or goat, you will see that they are just as cute and funny as your dogs and cats and that they, too, want to live and feel love. They don’t like pain. Now when I see a steak, it makes me feel sad and sick because right away, I see my dog or the amazing cows I met at a sanctuary. I’ve been vegan for 10 years, and it’s the single-most important and helpful decision I have ever made. Physically, the effect has been amazing. Once I went vegan, I lost the weight I wanted to lose, my nails were stronger, and my skin was glowing. I feel great, and I look better now than I did 11 years ago.
Here's CelebTV.com's news report on Alicia's PETA ad. By the way, if you remember, another Alicia, our very own Alicia Mayer, wore a lettuce bikini a few months ago for a PETA ad here in the Philippines.
I LOVED Chiaki Kuriyama as Gogo Yubari in "Kill Bill Vol. 1" -- Gogo was my second favorite character, next only to her mistress, O-Ren Ishii. Here she is with Quentin Tarantino and Uma Thurman promoting "Kill Bill" in Tokyo back in 2003. Photo courtesy of Agence France-Presse. chiaki.jpg Want more pics of Chiaki? Check out this site. Recently, I also got to watch the violent 2000 cult classic Japanese action film "Battle Royale," and man did she rock as Takako Chigusa. It's a great movie but highly controversial -- and definitely not for the squeamish. I haven't seen Chiaki's other stuff yet, like her starring role in the original "Ju-on" -- the very first one, which was direct-to-video, not "Ju-on: The Grudge," which was the theatrical remake that spawned the US remake "The Grudge." Here's a YouTube clip of her interview on the British show "Japanorama." Warning: this and the "MPD Psycho" clip embedded here contain scenes of graphic violence. Here's a clip from the TV series "MPD Psycho" (a.k.a. "Multiple Personality Detective Psycho"). And now, for something more lighthearted, here are some of Chiaki's commercials.

Maggie Q kicks ass

DID you like the fourth "Die Hard" movie? Funny enough, I found it OK -- or at least it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Of course, it also helps that I like Maggie Q, and her character kicked ass -- literally. Here's a YouTube clip of her character Mai Linh doing just that to John McClane. Here are photos courtesy of Agence France-Presse. maggie-2.jpg maggie-1.jpg maggie-3.jpg And here are some pics from her official site. maggie-4.jpg maggie-5.jpg maggie-6.jpg
I'VE always loved Michelle Pfeiffer, and it's great that she finally has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Here's a pic of her kneeling down to touch her star during the unveiling ceremony on August 6. michelle-1.jpg And here are more pics courtesy of Agence France-Presse. michelle-2.jpg michelle-3.jpg michelle-4.jpg Oh, and don't forget to catch her in the movie "Hairspray."
CHECK out this video of Alyssa Alano's photo shoot as the June 2007 FHM Online Babe of FHM Philippines, courtesy of the YouTube account of FHM.com.ph webmaster Antonio Ongchap Jr. a.k.a. chapichaps. Alyssa, of course, gained fame for the Keys Me clip that was uploaded to YouTube a year ago and was passed on by Filipino Internet users via e-mail and blogs, introducing even more Filipinos to YouTube. You might even say Keys Me was the tipping point that made YouTube mainstream in the Philippines. And Alyssa knew she had YouTube to thank for her 15 minutes of fame; she even said she was amused by the video and thanked whoever was responsible for it. So, just to wax nostalgic, here's Keys Me again, though I'm sure most of us are sick of it by now, heh :)

Who is Parker Posey?

| 3 Comments | No TrackBacks
parker-posey.jpg SHE may be best remembered as Tom Hank's bitchy girlfriend in "You've Got Mail" (trapped-in-the-elevator scene, she was missing her Tic Tacs). But then again I won't blame you if you remember Meg Ryan more. Because she had blond hair and was the one receiving all those e-mail messages? If Parker Posey were any luckier, she could've been Sandra Bullock in "Speed" or Renee Zellwegger in "Jerry Maguire." But she's too indie for all that, and so she's one of those actresses that show up in arty, indie films like most recently in "The Oh in Ohio" and yes, Richard Linklater's classic slacker movie "Dazed and Confused" (which I think I've seen already but cannot recall exactly). She belongs in the same league as indie staples like Chloe Sevigny or Joey Lauren Adams. Since indie is slowly becoming mainstream these days, the New York Times justifiably did a profile on Parker Posey recently. You could also check out this New York Times interview in MP3 format to hear Parker discuss her role in the movie "Broken English." P.S. She was a villain in the most recent Superman movie. If you still don't remember her, then just Google. :) File photo courtesy of Agence France-Presse.
