TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines–The tricycle driver who returned $17,000 left by a female passenger continues to reap rewards for his honesty from people and organizations here.
A business organization and Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Lim expressed appreciation to Iluminado Boc.
On June 23, Boc found the money, left in the passenger’s seat of his tricycle, sparking an outpouring of tribute.
Lim lauded Boc who, despite his own economic woes, proved “that there is hope after all for every crisis” one faces.
Boc’s wife was hospitalized at the time he found the money left by Misael Bernasor.
Lim said he would give Boc a new tricycle unit as a reward for his honesty and, when he learned Boc’s monthly installment for the tricycle he drives was past due, would pay the balance.
The mayor likewise promised to foot the hospital bills of Boc’s wife.
On Monday morning, the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) gave P3,000 and a plaque of appreciation to Boc during a program broadcast over a local radio station.
In another radio station, where Boc was also interviewed, the radio announcer gave the tricycle driver P1,500 after learning Boc received P3,000 from Bernasor.
Several radio listeners also offered him cash.
Aside from his wife’s hospitalization expenses and installment fees for his motorcycle unit, Boc is also paying for the monthly amortization for his house at the Habitat Village here.

the actions of our worthy kababayan, Iluminado Boc is reflective of his inner values, strengthened by character and tempered by his moral fiber. Time and again, trials beset us, situations mostly not of our own designs but by circumstances. How we react defines our character. There are thousands. nay millions of Iluminados whose deeds of honesty and beneficience go unheralded, but I do concede that extra-ordinary deeds, done during extraordinary times should be accorded the benefit of praise. The greatness of a person become the foundation upon which a family is built, a community is anchored and a nation of strength and character is projected to the world. We have the right to take pride in the Iluminado Bocs of our country. This I agree is a breath of fresh air to our dialy diet of political, military and business shenanigans pervasive in the country today. Those who troop the line to praise him, give him assistance and support him and his ailing wife are equally worthy of praise, for they too, shall be found eligible to enter the realm of the righteous in this world, and further onwards to the kingdon not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Hi! Boc isang napakagandang bagay o halimbawa ang iyong ginawa inspite of your life situation and on the other hand your wife was still in the hospital, and there the answer for your wife’s condition but you did not take it instead you return the money to the owner, God saw it and He gave back to you the blessing, and you have it now so many people are proud of you as a filipino. God bless you always, Jesus loves you!
