(UPDATE) 39,455 pass Nursing Board

UPDATE: Nursing Board topnotcher Jovie Ann Decoyna, a graduate of Baguio Central University, urges her peers to take the initiative amid the financial crisis that has affected job opportunities even for nurses.

She got a rating of 89 percent. She is one of over 88,000 examinees that took the Nursing Licensure Exams in November 2008.

“We should take the initiative to look for the job rather than being idle. It is our responsibility to uplift nursing as a field,” she says.

At least 39,455 or 44.51% out of 88,649 examinees that took the November 2008 Nursing Board have passed, the Professional Regulatory Commission has announced.

Jovie Ann Alawas Decoyna of the Baguio Central University topped the board, with 89 percent, the PRC said.

The Nursing Regulatory Board (NRB) is headed by Carmencita Abaquin. Members of the NRB include Yolanda Arugay, Betty Merritt, Leonila Faire, Perla Po, Marco Antonio Sto.Tomas, and Amelia Rosales.

WHAT would a Civil Engineering Licensure Examination (CELE) board topnotcher construct?

A home for the squatters was the answer of topnotcher Maricel Aquino who garnered a score of 99.1 percent in the November 2008 CELE.

“Ayaw ko kasi ng may palaboy laboy. Nung nagtrabaho ako dito sa Manila, nakita ko ang gulo. May mga squatters. Gusto kong magconstruct ng matitirhan nila [I don’t want to see people loitering in the streets. When I started working here in Manila, I saw chaos. There were many squatters. I want to construct a home for them.],” said Aquino.

Lack of RP doctors, facilities still a problem — board topnotcher

QUEZON City, Philippines – Medical board exam topnotcher Marlon Garcia always wanted to become a doctor.

“I learned to love the profession as I was studying and I got to interact with the patients,” said the 26-year-old Garcia who finds the Anatomy and Surgery part of the board exam the hardest.

In an interview with INQUIRER.net, Garcia said the country suffers from the unequal distribution of qualified doctors and the lack of adequate facilities to perform medical procedures.

He said most of the doctors are located in the city while far-flung provinces are in dire need of more doctors.
