A-list bloggers getting read less?

07/09/07

Posted under Blog Tips, News

A-LIST blogger Robert Scoble posed this question recently, as he weighed on the impact of social networking service and other innovations like Twitter on top bloggers.

I theorized that was due to social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Jaiku, and Pownce’s rise. Most of the non-A-list bloggers have been showing up on those places in droves. After all, if you are only writing a blog to tell your family what your new kid is doing then something like Facebook is a lot better for that.

A-list bloggers are the celebrities in blogosphere. They’re today’s newspaper columnists who write about almost anything.

Scoble continues:

Something is happening over on Twitter/Jaiku/Pownce, though. That’s where the action is. Does it take away from blogging? No because IT IS blogging. Albeit 140 characters at a time.

My take: There are just too many blogs out there. As people produce more content, A-list bloggers included, people are starting to choose blogs they want to read. Content remains king. If the traffic of some A-list bloggers is falling, it is perhaps time to rethink their content. In fact, I agree with one comment on Scobleizer’s blog that interest has tapered off, as more people get into blogging. Or perhaps they’re just too busy turning people into zombies on Facebook.

Indeed, content is King. I think one of the reasons behind the trend of social networks “overtaking” blogs (well, not all anyway) is that people tend to be “fast” readers-they just want interesting gist with a quick punch.

Zombies and content can co-exist! It’s just a matter of continuing to have quality posts and having some application-fun at the same time. Balance. And whatever mood the reader’s in.

Blogging has become the new way of life over the Internet. It’s sad that it’s being used for spamming as well. I guess the best way to remain on top of people’s most read blog list is simply to keep churning out good content.

Some A-list bloggers are just way too high and mighty when you read their blogs. Maybe that’s why some readers get turned off.

I think it could either be because people are getting even busier with their lives offline or they’re busy with putting up their own blogs. I’m wondering if there’s a statistic of how many blogs are started per minute. I guess more blogs springing up would be a good thing if it means there would be more potential sources of useful and relevant information.
