SO, is the youth wing of Malaysia's ruling party really speaking for the youth when it urged the government to regulate bloggers? Here's an excerpt from the Agence France-Presse story:
KUALA LUMPUR--The influential youth wing of Malaysia's ruling UMNO political party is pressing for "regulatory control" over Internet bloggers fol lowing two widely publicized cases, state media reported. The proposal was made by United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) youth chief Hishamuddin Tun Hussein, Bernama news agency said late Saturday. "UMNO Youth warns that freedom has its limits and we will not tolerate those wh o touch on the issue of national stability, harmony, cultural values and the pe rsonality of national leaders," Hishamuddin said.

Shouldnt we implement the same in the Philippines? I think we have too much fr
eedom in our country...and many of the things people do or say affects the poli
tical and economic stability of our country....

Hmmm ... I remember that Marcos held the same beliefs of controlling, preventin
g and jailing those who spoke out against anomalies in his rule and then conseq
uently declared Martial Law. I believe the late Lopez, founder of ABS-CBN was o
ne of them, Ninoy Aquino, and thousands of people of whom he considered threats
to his rule. Later there were forced confessions, killings, executions, tortur
es and rapes in these detention camps. Hmmm...

This goes to show that the youth in Malaysia is very much involved in the affai
rs of the state. They should be because they are eventualy the ones who will ta
ke over the reins of running it when their time comes.

Unfortunately, our youth is more involved in gimmicks, cel fons, latest fashion
, malling, drugs, quick money earning rackets, and most of all they either want
to be in the movies stars or professionals who one day will have to go abroad.

For lack of role model figures in government, the youth really are not given op
portunities and challenges to see their future in politics. It's no wonder they
simply have decided not to get involved at all. Sad but true!

Let a repressive government gag your blogs, the next thing you know your mouth
is gag as well. Those Malaysian youth who wants to gag the blog are the youth w
ing of the Malaysian government ruling party. It does not take a genius to see
why they want to gag their critics. Clear now, guys?

thanks for useful information!
