SO, is the youth wing of Malaysia’s ruling party really speaking for the youth when it urged the government to regulate bloggers?
Here’s an excerpt from the Agence France-Presse story:
KUALA LUMPUR–The influential youth wing of Malaysia’s ruling UMNO political party is pressing for “regulatory control” over Internet bloggers following two widely publicized cases, state media reported.
The proposal was made by United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) youth chief Hishamuddin Tun Hussein, Bernama news agency said late Saturday.
“UMNO Youth warns that freedom has its limits and we will not tolerate those who touch on the issue of national stability, harmony, cultural values and the personality of national leaders,” Hishamuddin said.

Let a repressive government gag your blogs, the next thing you know your mouth is gag as well. Those Malaysian youth who wants to gag the blog are the youth wing of the Malaysian government ruling party. It does not take a genius to see why they want to gag their critics. Clear now, guys?

This goes to show that the youth in Malaysia is very much involved in the affairs of the state. They should be because they are eventualy the ones who will take over the reins of running it when their time comes.
Unfortunately, our youth is more involved in gimmicks, cel fons, latest fashion, malling, drugs, quick money earning rackets, and most of all they either want to be in the movies stars or professionals who one day will have to go abroad.
For lack of role model figures in government, the youth really are not given opportunities and challenges to see their future in politics. It’s no wonder they simply have decided not to get involved at all. Sad but true!

Hmmm … I remember that Marcos held the same beliefs of controlling, preventing and jailing those who spoke out against anomalies in his rule and then consequently declared Martial Law. I believe the late Lopez, founder of ABS-CBN was one of them, Ninoy Aquino, and thousands of people of whom he considered threats to his rule. Later there were forced confessions, killings, executions, tortures and rapes in these detention camps. Hmmm…

Shouldnt we implement the same in the Philippines? I think we have too much freedom in our country…and many of the things people do or say affects the political and economic stability of our country….
