Erap’s conviction is a big statement against corruption. And the exclamation is that now even the biggest fish can be hooked. But it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Why only Erap? With so many government officials involved in so many corruption scandals, why has no one been charged? It’s selective prosecution plain and simple, and it reeks of partisanship. Whatever, it is a foretaste of things to come. GMA must be having sleepless nights.

Hello Merriam!

No Pardon for ESTRADA. If they give him pardon, then let us demand that all prisoners in the Bilibid will be pardoned too!!!
September 25th, 2007 at 12:22 am
PEOPLE OF THE PHILIPPINES - NO PARDON FOR ERAP! READ THE SANDIGANBAYAN REPORT - if you don’t have access to it, ask around. DON’T belittle yourselves - the WHOLE WORLD is watching. We all look like dummies. You had the power to bring down MARCOS and his cronies, and subsequently ERAP, but DON’T let the government pardon ERAP for Christ’s sake. He was the reason why most of you are poor and illiterate (like him). His ‘ERAP PARA SA MAHIRAP’ should have been ‘ERAP PARA SA KAMAG-ANAK at KAIBIGAN’. He should take his FAMILY and cronies with him in PRISON, because they’re all GUILTY - beyond reasonable doubt. WAKE UP, MGA KABABAYAN. Our country’s future is IN YOUR HANDS! This is not petty theft, but GRAND THEFT! God Bless you all!

No pardon to ERAP, HE DESERVES TO ROT IN JAIL AND IN HELL…Isunod nyo na si Imelda Marcos.
September 23rd, 2007 at 8:08 am
Nagkaka-lutuan na po!
Sorry na lang to the other prisoners in Bilibid who cannot be pardoned that easy. Why?
They do not have something like P3.233 BILLION from a Jose Velarde account as a bargaining chip! By making everybody happy with a share of his loot, Erap can expect to go home and have a Merry Christmas in December.
It is time to voice our outrage to this blatant disregard for the rule of law! However, I fear that all our ranting and collective gnashing of teeth shall be in vain. We can shout to high heavens until we lose our voice and sanity. All to no avail if the powers that be are blinded by greed and opportunism.
Moral of the story?
If you are going to choose a crime and wish to get away with it, do not settle for less than plunder. The bigger the loot, the bigger your chances of walking free.
September 22nd, 2007 at 7:33 pm
I am more than glad and at least there are group of lawyers who vehemently will oppose the pardon or amnesty of Erap. Worst case scenario he even was dictating that his pardon must be unconditional and no admission of guilt. Its beyond belief. This has only happened in the Philippines. I have never heard of it before. Its beyond compare.Walang kaparis ang Pilipinas. Have you ever known of someone Charged of Plunder and two weeks later they are organizing for his freedom?????? My respect goes all the way for the three justices. Madamme President please dont give in to the oppositions tactics. They are called oppositions and no matter what, whether Erap will be freed or not they will remain the OPPOSITIONISTS against the govt.

September 22nd, 2007 at 10:21 am
I don’t think ERAP deserves to be pardoned in any circumstances. He had not helped the country during his term. In fact, he made the country’s situation worse. an all time low exchange vs. a dollar. Stealing money from poor people. Walang kaibigan, kamag-anak!!! who is he kidding? those people who want him freed may not understand why he needs to suffer in jail because it’s not them who feels the hunger and the hardship at that time.
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:18 am
NAPAKAGAGO NG MGA PULITIKO NATIN. Matapos mahatulan ng plunder ang ganid na ex-presidente, ngayon, hindi pa man nasesentensyahan, inaayos na and pardon. ANO BA YAN! At siya pa ang nagbibigay ng kundisyon. ONLI IN DA PILIPINS! May mga tao sa kulungan na ang kasalan ay PETTY THEFT and yet, they are in prison the rest of their lives (BAKIT? Dahil wala silang pera, or walang kakilala na malakas).
Instead of getting to the streets to rally against non-nonsense issue, go in FULL FORCE and RALLY against the government
for PARDONING ESTRADA (If that happens). TO GLORIA, don’t listen to those people. You have your own mind. Show them that you cannot be influenced by their threats of impeachment. GUILTY IS GUILTY, no matter how you look at it. DON’T WORRY, even if the media portrays you otherwise, deep in the people’s heart, they know you are doing the right thing. They’re tired of the crab mentality and ‘inggit’. You want to know the truth? That’s what it boils down to — these politicians are so envious of your achievements and they want to bring you down . So, don’t give in to their demands. Let ERAP rot in prison and bring him to BILIBID prison, so he would know how poor people feels. Let him die of old age there - that’s what he deserves. I’M SICK and TIRED of this.
September 20th, 2007 at 10:34 am
In fairness, I dont think that the president is aware of all these corruption in her administration. Its time we all must help her at isumbong sa hustisya ang mga tiwali. Wag naman sana i-blame lahat kay PGMA.
September 19th, 2007 at 7:21 pm
I found it in disbelief that besides all the timeframe put in by the three Honourable justices who have presided Erap’s case and found him guilty of plunder, some sectors in the society would like to pardon him. Pardon a man who squandered the nation’s coffer. This man always mention and uses the poor in his talk, the same man who instructed GSIS and SSS officials at the time of his presidency to buy shares of stock from Bellecorp in his own vested interest…. using people’s hard earned money to obtain his commission not by the hundreds or thousands but millions of pesos. No wonder Philippines nearly became like Argentina when he left Malacanang. Think of it million times before we feel sorry for this guy. Before you feel sorry for him, feel for our country first… WILL THIS MEAN ANY FUTURE AND PRESENT POLITICIANS IN THE LOCAL AND NATIONAL GOVT WHO COULD BE ON THE SAME SHOES AS ESTRADA ERAP WILL BE GIVEN PARDON AS WELL======IN THE NAME OF RECONCILIATION….We have short term memories kaya walang asenso ang bayan kasi puro awa.
September 18th, 2007 at 11:40 pm
rich
You sum it up right Engr. Josh 22-this is simply about a popular official who was found corrupt -case closed -time to move on. Never mind the negative comments as most of those come from the very same people who were claiming before that all the allegations were baseless and now that the Sandiganbayan has handed down its decision they are still on denial.
I just want to give credit to the magistrates for their professionalism and resoluteness. Their collective judgment reflects their fair and prudent appraisal of all the arguments. rebuttals, testimonies and evidences presented by both the prosecution and defense panels. By focusing on the merits of the case alone they succesfully brought this trial to a just conclusion.
As for future evil-doers out there, hope that this verdict would put all of you on notice.

September 18th, 2007 at 7:11 am
Let me tell you my two centavos worth regarding Erap’s conviction and the reactions of a lot of Pinoys.
It could have been a lot better for me personally if Erap was found not guilty. As a result more corrupt politicians would have been emboldened and will engage in more corruption.
Sus! Mayaman ako pagretiro ko. Hehehe!!
September 18th, 2007 at 5:58 am
We thought that after Marcos was kicked out of the country, things will change. Duh! It didn’t happen. When it comes to corruption in the government, the administrations of Cory, Ramos, Estrada and now Gloria are all the same.
How can these politicians afford to spend so much money? The exhorbitant amounts are way beyond their salaries. Well, they will spend that much money because they will get their monies back and more in return sa pangungurakot. They get their ROI or return of investment ika nga.
Kahit sino pa ang ihalal mo, except for a handful of candidates, the rest are all corrupt. That is a given in Phil politics. So my advice to everyone is: Don’t worry be happy (as the song goes).
Susmaryosep! Kasi daw he suffered enough for more than six years of house arrest.
‘Langya. After a long trial and so much taxpayers money spent for the trial, we are now giving Erap pardon or amnesty? Anong klaseng kagaguhan ang pagiisip na yan? No wonder we are doomed as a nation. No wonder over a million Filipinos left the country to work and live abroad as OFWs.
So, mga fellow Filipinos all I can say is we are not going to uplift ourselves within our generation as long as we have those politicians who are all buwayas. Dapat we have a revolution so that we can shot all of them and start with a clean slate.
My two cents commentary for today.
September 18th, 2007 at 3:50 am
…Now that Erap has finally been found guilty of plunder beyond reasonable doubt , let’s just hope and pray that the Supreme Court and the rest of the politicians from all political parties and the righteous religious hypocrites would allow the “wheels of justice” take its turn. For so long, Erap and his family, both legitimate and illegitimate have flounted the wealth they have stolen from the “masa” who were stupid enough to have allowed themselves to be manipulated by these greedy people. I hope that those politicians, who even today, presently, puts Erap in pedestal just as if he was the all too powerful godfather, and broker of their position in government, would find enough courage and wisdom to stop shielding Erap from painful consequences of his immoral excesses. We should also pray that the “masa” would stop allowing themselves to be fooled by people who promise them lot of things but never deliver. The “masa” should start asking those politicians who ask for their votes, “What have you done lately, or during your term as an elected public official, for the good of the community and the people? BEing an outspoken oppositionist should not be the yardstick to put a person in an elected office.
September 18th, 2007 at 1:30 am
Erap’s immediate families are insisting that the former President is innocent of plunder. Let me ask them this, if he is really innocent then why there’s such a largescale figures existed on the velarde Accnt? Why only the former President’s name implicated in the account? Why the lawyers of Erap failed to clear his name on the Velarde accnt in the first place? JV Estrada et. al, always say that their father tried unjustly. It is so ridiculous to know that they just open their both ears and eyes on what they believe rather than reality. Are they still in normal state of their minds or just pretending to be one? They’re just rot!
September 17th, 2007 at 5:37 pm
Adios!

HE’S REALLY GUILTY BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT. hindi ibig sabihin na waiting for a guilty verdict mangmang ka na. we understand the rule of law, it took 6 years to establish that.ibig mong sabihin mangmang din ang mga justices ng sandiganbayan court? ayen & barthy bright ba talaga kayo? .then you live w/ estrada sa kanyang tanay resthouse. you join your idol there. CONGRATULATIONS SA SANDIGANBAYAN COURT. YOU DID A GOOD JOB BY CONVICTING ERAP!!!!

* to whom it may concern: you can prove that the Estrada guilty verdict is not a political decision by transferring him to the National Bilibid Prison ASAP kasama ng ibang convicts.
That you care and you are one with the common tao. Join the common tao convicts in the bilibid. Wag kang magpaawa epek.
******************************** Sa mga VIP diyan sa Mataas at Mababang Kapulungan: Itigil niyo na ang pagbabangayan niyo. If you really care for the welfare of Juan dela Cruz (na lagi niyong sinasabi tuwing kayo ay nangangampanya) magtulungan na lang kayo. Hindi yang nagbabangayan kayo just for the sake of it. It doesnt necessarily mean naman na if you belong to different political parties eh you have to argue with each other eveytime di ba?
May effect pa kaya?
September 17th, 2007 at 11:15 am
After how many years, at last natapos din. At least mapupunta na sa mas meaningful projects (I hope so) ang perang ginasgastos ng government everytime n my hearing siya. its about time na rin na ibalik niya sa kaban ng bayan ang mga nakurakot niya during his short term.
Congrats din nga pala sa mga government officials at politicians. i bet most of them are very happy and hopeful. they cant wait to get their hands on that huge amount of money. ( Ha ha ha! Talk about irony.) The Sandiganbayan ordered the return of Erap’s ill-gotten wealth to the National Treasury only to be sotlen bit by bit (buti nga sana kung bit by bit) ng mga buwayang nakaupo sa puwesto.
He’s GUILTYPERIOD
****************************
* To the Estrada family: Bakit kumokonti yata ang mga supporters ninyo? Nagtatanong lang po.

The Rule of Law once again is a big joke in the Philippines. Only a few days after Erap was convicted of Plunder, a heinous crime, by a Judicial branch of government… TRAPOS from both Legislative and Executive branch are already talking about giving Erap Pardon, Amnesty or whatever they want to call it to free Erap from a legitimate court conviction. Just because the convicted criminal happens to be the former president of the country doesn’t mean it’s in the best interest of its people to change the landscape of the law of the land to accomodate self-serving political and economical interest in order to free such privileged convicted felon. If this non-sense materializes… I would have to say that the Philippines had gone insane!

Fellows KABABAYAN!
Walang personalan…THE TRUTH SHALL PREVAIL!
Reverberations
MR. EXPOSE
Amb. Ernesto Maceda
09/14/2007
The Sandiganbayan decision convicting deposed President Joseph Ejercito Estrada of plunder and sentencing him to reclusion perpetua has started reverberations which will continue until 2010 and beyond.
Dr. Carol Araullo, Fr. Joe Dizon and Rep. Teddy Casiño, officers of plunder watch who initiated the plunder charges against Erap in 2001, have already announced they will also file plunder charges against GMA the very first day after she leaves Malacañang.
They say corruption under GMA is much worse. And have good basis for saying so considering the questions that have been raised on the following transactions and decisions:
1. Fourteen-million dollar commission from the $466-million Impsa Argentina rehabilitation contract.
2. Continuation of jueteng operations with a P6 billion to P10-billion payoff/year.
3. Illegal drug trade protection estimated at P10 billion to P20 billion/year.
4. Huge importation of rice, corn and sugar by NFA for six years.
5. The Napocor/Transco Psalm contracts/ including coal importations.
6. The DoTC contracts — including Piatco, Northrail and now ZTE national broadband network.
7. Open season smuggling of rice, corn, sugar, chicken, luxury cars, resin steel, Maling, ukay-ukay, cellphones capped by the billion peso smuggling of oil-certified seeds.
8. Fertilizer. Certified seeds and irrigation funds as demonstrated by the Joc-Joc Bolante case.
9. The President’s social funds and other Pagcor releases also peso fund allocations.
10. MWSS contracts including condonation of unpaid rentals and fees by Maynilad.
11. Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard project funded with GSIS trust funds.
12. Misuse of calamity funds including foreign donations.
13. The misuse of PhilHealth OWWA funds.
14. The textbook procurement mess.
15. The Mega Pacific counting machines contract invalidated by the Supreme Court.
Reward. It is no secret that Sandiganbayan Justices Teresita de Castro and Francisco Villaruz Jr. are leading aspirants for appointment to the Supreme Court, the next vacancy opening up on Oct. 30 with the retirement of Justice Cancio Garcia.
Will GMA throw all caution to the winds again and promote one of them as a reward for their decision to convict Erap and legitimizing her take-over on Jan. 30, 2001? Will Villaruz or Diosdado Peralta be promoted to be presiding justice of the Sandiganbayan?
No one will be surprised because by her victory over Erap in the Sandiganbayan, once again she has demonstrated she does give a hoot over public opinion.
2010 starts. With Erap’s conviction, the main issue for the 2010 elections has been joined and that is the plunderous acts of GMA.
Definitely, Erap’s approval rating has increased with the actuations during his trial up to promulgation day.
Erap refused two offers by GMA to leave the country to be spared from plunder charges and opted to stay and stand trial. He’s suffered six years and four months in detention without complaint. He took the unjust conviction without mysteries. Many have said lalakeng-lalake si Erap. He acted like a statesmen throughout his six years ordeal.
Bottomline. The Sandiganbayan conviction of Erap boils down to one ultimate conclusion: They believed Chavit Singson’s testimony that Erap received jueteng payoffs.
I was a member of the Senate when fomer Sen. Jovito Salonga Jr. filed and sponsored the plunder bill. I voted for it.
Since there is the anti-graft law and the Revised Penal Code already in force. It was clear thru the debates that plunder was to be a crime covering bigger and many acts of corruption.
It was never discussed or intended that jueteng payoffs was to be covered by the new crime of plunder.
Rep. Ronnie Zamora asked a valid question: “How can you convict President Erap at the same time acquit Jinggoy Estrada and Edward Serapio, who were supposed to have received jueteng payoffs from the same Chavit Singson?
The P200-million check for Erap Muslim Youth Foundation was received and deposited by Serapio. As they say it doesn’t compute!
Compensation. Jinggoy Estrada and Edward Serapio should file a claim for compensation for damages for six years and four months of anxiety, stress, lost opportunities and legal expenses. It was clear from the beginning that there was no case against the two. They should not have been charged.
The laws on malicious prosecution should be reviewed to put in moral controls against abusive prosecutors.

Remember Kababayan!
Unresolved high crime cases in our History still not yet solve but the victims NOW ALL declared National HEROES!
Bonifacio brothers were banished during Aguinaldo time, Masang Pilipino declared him National Hero in his time.
Benigno Aquino was murdered at NAIA tarmac during Marcos time, but Masang Pilipino also declared him a National Hero.
Pres. Erap was kicked out from Malacanang, jailed morethan 6 years now, and convicted GUILTY from Plunder, but MASANG PILIPINO loved him very much, forgive his sins and hailed him as a LIVING HERO.
History will be the witness WHO is the real Corrupt, Power grabber, Liar, and violators of our Constitution and civil rights of our people.
KARMA, matakot kayo!
Jesus Christ is ALIVE, knowing our actions and deeds.

This below INFO is addressed to ALL Pinoys who supported and admired GMA in her BOGUS presidency.
Treason dapat ang ikaso sa mga umagaw ng kapangyarihan kay ERAP dahil they are the one who violated the constitution of our Beloved Land.
LOOK, open your eyes Kababayan ang LAKAS ng LOOB nýo to say something AGAINST ERAP, but remember SINO BA ANG TUNAY NA MAGNAKAKAW SA KABANGYAMAN NG BAYAN?
(Bernard Taguinod)
By Abante TONITE
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 16, 2007
“We would like to jog Mrs. Arroyo’s memory that among the post-Marcos presidents, she holds the record of being the most aggressive borrower,” pahayag ni Tanchuling sa kanyang report.
“Mrs. Arroyo that her total gross borrowings and debt payments are larger than that of her predecessors combined,” dagdag pa ni Tanchuling.
“As of end of 2006. Mrs. Arroyo has borrowed a total of P3.1 trillion and has spent P3.24 trillion for debt servicing,” paliwanag pa ni Tanchuling.

If I may ask poster DJB, why does the prosecution need to prove the constitutionality of Erap’s removal from office when that has already been a decided case by the Davide Court. The issue that the defense may prresent before the Supreme Court is whether the Sandigan erred in its decision or not. Why complicate resolving the question with issues that have no relevance to the subject.

Don’t ever get fooled of these few influential people for contributing opinions of freeing Erap. Pardon or amnesty are not good ideas at all to pursuade our justice system in our country. It is clear stupidity if we let his friends, supporters, family, and relatives to just play around our law, because they have the priviledge to do so. Now, how are you going to deal with the other ordinary criminals in jail? Would they feel unfair? There are about thousands of these criminals in jail. We know the gravity of the crime committed by Erap. Likewise, we do the same qualifying equation to discharge some criminals from our jails. Can we afford to set them free these criminals in our society? I do not want to mention their names by his/her stupid opinions but may you have wisdom. We must follow the rule of law, abide it, and let noone is above it. We just started to set an example to punish corrupt government officials. The conviction of a serious crime like the case of Erap is very important to our people and our country. We deserve a clean government and justice for all.

GOD BLESS THE PHILIPPINES

Bulag ba kayo? Siguro singkit din ang mata ninyo…
September 16th, 2007 at 4:59 am
The real problem with the philippines is not about a president that is a crook, its about who owns now the most millions of Jueteng money. If President Erap was living in Tanay Rizal for six years, then who collects the jueteng payoffs and has even a submarine and submarine, goes to gambling den in las vegas and even in Australia starcity casino. President ERap was only trying to divert the millions of jueteng payoff to be own by most poor people but instead landed into the worst predicament in the history of president of the philippines being the 13th president is quiet bad luck, it must be his destiny to end like this, for no one can solved his problem. especially people who are in power perceived him as corrupt and womanizer. Mabuhay ang Jueteng sa pilipinas.

Finally we have brave judges to convict an ex-president.
I just hope it will be the beginning of judicial changes for the betterment of the country. Let us live by the law of the land. As majority said, nobody is above the law. Elected and appointed government officials, government employees, majority of the public, and the media, let us embrace the words; accountibility, responsibility, honesty, and transparency. If we practice the above, it will be a great change. We can do it.

You are an admirer of the President because, you said, of decisions she made. By that, I suppose, you mean good major decisions that translate to actions that produce good results. Can you name one? I can name at least three major ones, and those brought her to a lot of troubles. Do you know why the negative trust rating, and the very low popularity rating?

The Estrada conviction was a test case for democracy in the Philippines. Down with plunderers! Because of Mr. Estrada’s popularity with the masses he cheated (he was guilty of the jueteng payola - the masses’ bet money), he may try to appear like politically harrased, oppressed and convicted to try to gain more sympathy from these ill-informed sector of the society!. He was never ashamed of what he did. This government should not be lenient on plunderers like Mr. Estrada who caused more sufferings and misfortune by pocketing the masses’ bet money and diverting GSIS and SSS funds to his pocket. Shame on him! He deserves Muntinlupa maximum security detention cells no less!

Guilty or not Guilty? Pilipino?
Same system, same politician…..yet same country.
Nakakaawa pero I see people living in a damn world of greediness and monsterity.
Rejoice!
There is no such thing as absolute truth. People are less deceived
by failing to see the truth than by failing to see its limits.

Engr Josh,
There it goes again the “Let’s move on” statement. Corruption, injustices, abuses, manipulation, cover-ups and fraud in the past and present must be resolved first before we as a nation could truly “Move On”.
Moving on cannot happen while institutionalized high profile corruption, fraud and crimes are happening right before the face of each and every citizen of our society. Do not abet or look the other way of crimes committed by big-fishes happening before you for the sake of that most abused “Let’s move on” statement.

You sum it all right. This all about a popular official who was found corrupt. Case closed- time to move on. I am not saying he is the only one, but at the moment, this case revolves around him, and he should suffer the consequences. Never mind those negative comments as most of them come from the very same people who were claiming before the verdict was handed down, that all the allegations were baseless, and now that the court has spoken they are still on denial.
As for the magistrates of Sandiganbayan, we need to praise them for being true to your oath. In our country it is a common perception that the rich and influential are treated differently, even in the eyes of law, but in this case, this did not materialize. Not that Mr. Estrada was unable to capitalize on his immense wealth and popularity. He was able to mount his defense counselled by the best lawyers of the land. For so many years the trial went on without resolution. And during this period his supporters and friends were successfully portraying him as being persecuted. Public sympathy was being swayed on his favor by a motley of propagandists. Even the court itself was’nt spared as doubts were cast on its very existence and its members’ integrity. Just prior to Sept. 12, we were all witness to a barrage of survey results, threats and opinions by various political and media personalities advancing the imperativeness of exoneration or pardon.
Its a good thing that the magistrates stood their ground against all these trivialities and simply focused on the merits of the case. Their collective judgment is a product of their prudent and just appraisal of all the arguments, rebuttals, testimonies and evidences presented by both the defense and prosecution panels. As arbiters, they did their job well and for such they should be commended.
I just hope that with this verdict, all future evil-doers out there will be put on notice.

I challange anyone to file a GRAFT AND CORRUPTION against Mayor Ramon Belmonte of Q. C. for participating on the bidding of the Eraps’s Boracay mantion. Bidding for properites is not a function of a LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNIT. He used the public money, so definitely he is deemed deviating from his role as Mayor. But, would he be impeach like Erap? Of course not. Why, because he is an EHTNIC CHINESE. So you see, there is a double standard going on in our judiciary. Both committed a crime, but one was impeach and the other is scotts free. Come on …….
September 15th, 2007 at 7:38 am
LET’S ACCEPT THE FACT THAT NO ETHNIC FILIPINO WILL EVER BE ALLOWED TO FINISH HIS TERM AS PRESIDENT. Former President R. Magsaysay was blown out of the sky, while Erap was convicted by the Sandigan Bayan. Just look at the eyes of the three judges; they are not ethnic Filipinos. On the contrary, they are ethnic Chinese. I use the term ethnic because this conflict is not whether anyone is right or wrong, it’s a conflict between races. Politics is associated more on cheating, lying and stealing, and in the last election, I’ll inclulde murders.
Has anyone been jailed? Why Erap?
September 15th, 2007 at 7:38 am
Kung talaga ng Diyos na kayo ang maging pangulo, matutupad yon, Remember, do your job well and people would remember you. Can you imagine if all of you can set aside politicking and unite as one, we will becoming the biggest mover in Asia economically. YOu are all the creme of the intelligentsia of our country, why not work together and uplift our country’s status. Panay ang halo nila ng “kalamay” to pull down the current administration in its effort to push the economy up.
Lastly, to the assets to be sequestered from Erap, let us add the loots of the Marcoses and form a pool from which we can fund public housing for the squatters, clean up the Pasig river (like Bangkok’s), and solve the flood problems of the city streets.
Lesson learned from Erap: No one is above the law. Man up to your crimes and be thankful that you were not killed outright by mobs similar to other corrupt Presidents. GMA should not grant pardon to ERAP this early. Let him pay for his crime longer. Maybe later but not now.
September 15th, 2007 at 5:21 am

Erap’s guilty verdict will only have meaning when those people in the present and past administrations, who also did the same thing as Erap did, are brought to justice. The likes of Jocjoc Bolante, Virgilio Garcillano, General Garcia, Jose Pidal (aka, you know who), personalities behind the ZTE deals, the solons who always get cuts from their fork barrels. The Generals and their officers who got jueteng payolas, the customs officials who connived with the smugglers, the BIR officials who helped the big businessmen in their tax cuts, the DPWH officials who got envelops from all the government construction projects, the DECS officials who robbed the students of the right textbooks and caused the delays of the teachers’ salaries, the Agrarian Reform officials who connived with the landlords to deprive the farmers of what the law has given them, the DENR officials who are responsible in the degradation of our forests that are causing calamities and killing innocent people, the local officials who got commissions from all transactions including garbage collections and so on and so forth, all of these people must have their day in court as well. Until then, there is nothing to rejoice about. For all we know, it maybe just a show, a political show for that matter or a show for survival. We poor Filipinos of this generation may never know the real truth behind all these political (?) dramas. We can only pray for the right thing to happen at HIS own time.
MAY GOD BLESS US ALL!!!

We respect the decision of the Sandiganbayan in regard to the plunder case against former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada.
We presume the court arrived at its decision after careful evaluation of evidence presented during the trial.
The Black & White Movement, however, laments the selective application of justice - expedient and with a heavy hand for those perceived to be enemies of the GMA regime, while slow and protective toward those allied with her.
What is the difference between Jose Velarde and Jose Pidal?
Why has this government not pursued the cases against Nani Perez, Joc-Joc Bolante, Virgilio Garcillano, and more recently, Benjamin Abalos’ alleged complicity in the ZTE deal? Instead of pursuing these cases, this administration has stonewalled through gag orders such as the illegal EO 464 and questionable MO 108.
This reflects the sad state of our justice system where political patronage is the rule of the day. Those out of favor with the powers that be are prosecuted while those in the inner circle are beyond the reach of the long arm of the law. As former President “Erap” himself has put it… “weather-weather lang.”
We can only hope that when the political winds change direction, those who are currently in the circle of power, who are allegedly involved in crimes more sinister and heinous than Erap’s plunder, will have their day in court.
September 14th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
By the way, nakita ko sa tv news si Erap after the conviction na guilty of plunder. Ang ganda ng service car mo Erap at very charming and smiling while waving to his supporters. Naks..naka helicopter ka pa Erap at naka smile parang heartthrob like Piolo Pascual, Sam Milby, and so forth…Tatak only in the Philippines ka talaga Erap. jk..jk..jk..lang at h’wag mapikon.

Anyone convicted of a serious crime dapat diretso na sa jail. How stupid! This third world justice. Only in the Philippines lang ito lagi mangyari kung ang kriminal ay mga mayaman with special treatment pa. If a person is convicted of a crime..his/her rights are taken away and he/she become owned by the state to be punish by jail time or by death. ASAP paki-transfer naman si Erap sa jail. Rush request yon namin. Huwag kayong stupid ha.

si erap no doubt he committed crime but compare to ramos and gma…these people are protected by the oligarch hierarchy kaya dami mang ginawang anomaly nakakalusot pa rin,but the issue though guilty c erap he is man enough to faced all the accusation inspite of guilty verdict scenario and the masses fully believes he is a victim of politics. you just dont know the real gma, i fought for erap ouster but to my dismay we have monstrous leaders…history will portrays how gma and cohorts plunder this nation…im a former military officer who resigned to the so-called chain of command because i personally experienced and witnessed how they manipulate government institution for their personal gains and power grab…erap conviction is a judicial triumph and i salute the justices for job well done…someday youll know why we hate gma and company. At last, we now have a big fish caught, prosecuted and convicted of plunder. Erap is the best example to dangle against officials and politicians who are still stealing and wasting government resources. This may be the era now of Philippine economic prosperity. South Korea did not prosper until they put in jail two presidents. The next thing to do now is educate the less fortunate (in mind and attitudes) who still believe that Erap is their savior. Erap is a fake hero. When he eats in public, he eats with bare hands besides the poor folks. But when he eats his real meal, drinks and have party, he does it not with the poor but with his cronies, buddies and even co-corrupt officials. Accordingly, there is no distinction between his office and kitchen. I guess it is high time now to accept reality.
September 14th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
No pardon for Erap. Dapat ilipat din siya sa Bilibid Para maniwala ang madlang people na justice is for all kung ililipat nila si Erap sa Bilibid Kasama ng mga convicted na kagaya niya.

The justices who tried Estrada’s case should ne commended for a job well done. Estrada’s conviction is a proof that the wheels of justice continue rolling.
Yes, he was a president but justice is justice. Justice means fairness. He was convicted of plunder and plunder is tantamount to murdering millions of poor Filipinos. The justices should order his immediate transfer to Muntinlupa. There’s no use jailing a person in a paradise like house arrest. Otherwise, future presidents and government officials will enjoy plundering anyway they will be jailed in a luxurious compound.
Think of those stomachs which could have benefited from the money that he amassed.
Let the wheels of justice continue to display its dynamism.

Let’s MOVE ON…
In defense to the sitting president, I don’t know why some of you guys hate GMA to the bone. Well, that’s your opinion. I may not like her in some ways, but the others I admire her decisions. No one is perfect.
In defense to the the Filipino people (to whom which the REAL power of the government emanates), Let’s move ON guys. I know some of us do not like those officials in the highest echelons of power, but in the case of Erap’s conviction by Justice, their time will come. But now, let us focus our heads together and help the economy grow. I know many don’t like GMA but considering the fact that her very unpopular but shrewd decisions have been making a lot of progress.
Somebody mentioned that will this conviction put food in the table or instant job to the graduates. The answer is both YES and NO. It’s a long process. If all checks and balances are guaranteed between the Executive, Legislative, Supreme Court, Media and the Private sector of the society, then we may be on our way to becoming a FIRST WORLD in the future.
We are a country of 88.5 million Filipinos. Now, can anybody expect all tables to be filled and every graduate to be given a job, immediately?
To the honorable Senate and Congress, I know you were elected to legislate. But please, let us not keep on resurrecting issues that will only deter our economic gains. Let us not forget that while you remain to keep check the status of the other departments, there are issues worth implementing for the greater good.
To the honorable President, VP, and other cabinet members, continue the good you are doing for the economy and Filipino people. Erap’s conviction too should serve as a warning to all that not even those elected to the highest position is free from the grasps of the LAW. No one is above it.
To the Justices of the honorable sandiganbayan and Supreme Court, may you continue to gain wisdom in interpreting the law for the resolution of lapses made by individuals in our society.
To the Private/Business sector, may we work together for the greater good in keeping the country running and the economy stable. TO the OFWs, may you continue to send more dollars/yen/Euro/pound/dinar and inspiring those people around us that your hardwork is a reminder of what we can do to achieve our goals so that we may in turn, do our part for progress.
To the Media, let us focus on issues for the sake of our country’s progress. I firmly believe in the vital importance of media in the role of nation building. Continue exposing bad criminals and corrupt people so that the whole Filipino people can deal with them while maintaining responsible journalism.
And Lastly to the whole Filipino people: I sometimes can’t help wondering whether our race is set apart from others, being a Third world and all that. But with patience, perseverance, hardwork, industry, integrity and spirit of one nation, we can build this country (whether we are in it or abroad) to become as powerful and economically stable as nay other. GMA may be setting ambitions that we may be one in the next 20 years. Some say it’s a far-fetching scheme. I have a different notion though.

May mga comments pa na “will it bring food to a hungry family’s table?” Ang sagot. Hindi! Magtrabaho ka!
Ibig nyo ba sabihin we should let this guilty man free dahil walang magababago sa buhay ng mahirap? Lalong hindi!
September 14th, 2007 at 11:05 am
Dapat si Pang Gloria ay wag maawa kay Erap..No Pardon..Pres GMA, you already stripped Erap of the Presidency its now time to put the nail on the coffin
September 14th, 2007 at 11:01 am
Gawin nating bayani si Chavit and put him on the government!!
September 14th, 2007 at 9:59 am
Hay naku! ang ibang tao talaga. Pilit pinapalitan ang issue. The only issue right now is that Erap is GUILTY!
September 14th, 2007 at 9:55 am
Even though he has been convicted “beyond a reasonable doubt” by the Court of First Instance called the Sandiganbayan, Joseph Estrada is a long way from final conviction.
Fr. Bernas made this point clear: Whether conditional or absolute, Pardon cannot be offered or forced on him until after final conviction
If he appeals his conviction to the SC, the Prosecution must also prove that his removal from office and the trial at the Sandiganbayan were Constitutional throughout.
September 14th, 2007 at 9:39 am
September 14th, 2007 at 8:31 am

erap admitted that he signed the jose velarde account. he also admitted that he ordered gsis & sss to invest in belle corp. this is in the transcript of the 200-page decision (its available on-line in pdf). he is the best witness against himself.

September 14th, 2007 at 5:41 am
Kawawang Pilipinas. Tunay kang kapus palad at malas. Kailan pa kaya !!!!
September 14th, 2007 at 5:23 am
I believe that the verdict was correct under a democratic system of gov’t. It was not dictated by politics. It has nothing to do with GMA’s legitimacy as President. Erap should pay for his crime. His son should have been convicted as well. It is as simple as that. Erap should have been given a choice to exit out of the country like the Marcoses. And maybe come back later on and be pardoned like them. I have forgiven the Marcoses but like many, I will never forget their crimes and the plundering of our govt funds. Our government is dirt poor because of the Marcos plague and I will probably be dead before the future generation can enjoy a progressive Philippine government.
September 14th, 2007 at 4:56 am
Bakit di ninyo tularan and US. Alot did not like Bush but the US senators who form the opposition are not as garapal as you guys in the Senate. Siguro at the end of each year of your term, there should be a listing of your accomplishments so that the Filipino would know kung may silbi kayo o wala. At saka and pork barrel ninyo should have accountability.
September 14th, 2007 at 4:46 am
Tumpak lang ang hatol. Ayaw kuno ni Erap ng pardon from GMA. Kung ayaw nya e di huwag! Pero Kung si FPJ ang prez he was expecting to be pardoned even before the trial.
September 14th, 2007 at 3:48 am
September 14th, 2007 at 3:41 am
September 14th, 2007 at 3:38 am
Gng. Arroyo, remember this “What goes around comes around” “Kung ano tinanim syang aanihin” It will all come back to you. No one escapes karma.
September 14th, 2007 at 12:43 am
Ang gagaling kung magsalita rule of law daw.
If you started with a lie everything that follows are all lies, saan si Davide ngayon?
September 13th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
Guilty verdict para ma-sustain ang pagkaupo ni GMA sa kaniyang puwesto; otherwise mas lalong nakakahiya sa madlang people not only in the Philippines but the whole world. We still have until 2010 for the highest court to hand down its decision for the next appeal, because from that time, free na si GMA dahil tapos na ang term. Kung ma-acquit na si Pres. Erap wala na rin si GMA.
NOT GUILTY of perjury dahil pare-pareho silang lahat. Pagkakamali niya ang hindi pagkuha nito, bagkust dapat ay kinuha and he used them in a lot of projects that could be seen and not only projects on paper, at least pag lumabas uli ang summary ng Pork Barrel distribution, makikita na siya lang ang gumamit sa pera na nakalaan talaga para sa mga proyekto.
I just hope that the second time around…ERAP would be set free and yung dapat na malitis ang siyang lilitisin.
September 13th, 2007 at 10:56 pm
Erap deserves that verdict. He is truly corrupt, he’s just using the poor Filipinos to gain sympathy. How can anyone be called hero of the masses if he has luxury cars, mansions and a lot of concubines. Yeah hero of the masses my a**. Guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
September 13th, 2007 at 10:26 pm
ERAP’s pride is still very high by ignoring some “pardon” feelers by the administration. ARROYO should teach him a lesson by disregarding ERAP totally because he is nothing but an insignificant past. I agree with Arroyo that it is time to move on and end this political drama.
September 13th, 2007 at 7:58 pm
Yes, Oblation, corruption is indeed a sin. I can’t wait to see the day, Satan must be quaking on his knees already.
September 13th, 2007 at 7:44 pm

Governor Chavit Singson is the real hero, Yahoo! I propose to Madam President that Mr. Chavit be declared by her to be our national hero replacing Jose Rizal. Or, declare him as a candidate for sainthood. Haleluyah!

What a breakthrough! For the very first time our justice system has finally convicted a corrupt government official. We are very thankful to our courts and justices for the job well done even though they’re maybe quite reluctant to nail down those co-accused of perjury charges. Maybe the next time no more hesitation to punish all these crooks and wicked. So finally, “gising” na ang justice system natin. Watch out mga kurakot ng bayan dyan! Watch out din mga mamatay tao dyan! It is just a matter of implementing the rule of law and abiding the truth for justice. Our countrymen are overjoyed for the good change to our country. LET’S MOVE ON…
September 13th, 2007 at 5:22 pm
After scanning the decision of the Special Division of the Sandiganbayan on the perjury case, I learned that Clarissa Ocampo’s testimony has nothing to do with it because the perjury case hinges on the statement of assets and liabilities (SAL) filed by Mr. Estrada in certain calendar years and not his signing of the Velarde account. I am withdrawing my question to the revered Special Division. My apologies for talking without knowing the issues.
At any rate, the outcome of the case is a victory of the Filipino people. This is also a challenge to all witnesses of corruption particularly those committed by the present administration to come out and blow the whistle. I hope that the verdict would preempt kickback hungry public officials from their bad doings and would jumpstart the cleansing of the entire Philippine society from the malady of corruption.
I still believe that there is hope for the beloved Philippines. The realization of which has just been started.
God bless the Philippines!

Yes …………all the Real Crooks are still in Power……….
How to move on do you think all the people want this country to move on..
What happen to this people?
We love you…..
September 13th, 2007 at 2:36 pm
I congratulate Justice Teresita Leonardo De Castro and her Special Division for a job well done. Mabuhay po kayo! Anybody of you guys in that division deserves to be promoted to the Supreme Court and I am confident none of you would be disqualified anymore by reason of citizenship.
With due respect to the revered Special Division, may I ask: why Erap is acquitted of perjury charges? Does that mean Clarissa Ocampo is the perjurer herself as her testimonies fell against Erap’s? What happens to Ms. Ocampo now?
I am sad that Ms. Ocampo’s valor in risking her and her family’s lives, not to mention her career, by taking act against a president of the Philippines for the sake of truth went into naught. Her vivid narration of the signing of the velarde account by Mr. Estrada were likewise vividly painted in the memory of the Filipinos who watched and listened to her testimony in the witness stand. All and all, it is the same testimony that the Filipino people believed and still believe that would mostly hook Mr. Estrada. I’m wondring if ever Ms. Ocampo’s testimony was taken into consideration (even as a mere collaboratory evidence) in finding Mr. Estrada guilty of plunder. I still have to read the full text of your decision in the case, though.
I would also take this opportunity to call on the present Philippine leadership to please serve the people with utmost responsibility, integrity, loyalty and efficiency as ordained in our constitution. Be mindful that you are there to serve the people and not otherwise. If anyone of you is taking preference of his pocket more than his duty to uplift the lives of our people by alleviateng them from poverty, you don’t deserve to stay any longer than a second in the leadership. If a US senator suspected only of committing homosexual activity in a comfort room resigned from his committees and probably from being a senator, with more reason of you to go (or better yet take your own life!) for making the Filipino people’s lives more unbearable. Abusing you enormous powers by meddling in government contracts to gain kickbacks in tens of millions of dollars is outrageous and a traitor’s act. That would make the Filipino people pay for monies that went straight to the crook’s pocket. The Filipino people is fed up doing that.
I just hope that the Sandiganbayan would live up to its gigantic task: Convict all these CROOKS in the government.
September 13th, 2007 at 2:31 pm
MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS!!!
September 13th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
So now, show me the money!
September 13th, 2007 at 12:37 pm
Sandigan KONO! Mahiya naman kayo puro corrupt! Mandaraya katulad nang presidente nyong GMA
September 13th, 2007 at 11:45 am
It was fair. The judgment was based on evidence and not on politics. ERAP was really guilty beyond reasonable doubt. Let us always remember that there is still hope for this country if people follow the rule of law. I dont care if people want also the blood of GMA(she is also not squeeky clen), what is important is the decision will set a precedent and will make those holding government position to always feel accountable on all their actions.

I’m so happy for the verdict of sandiganbayan, now there is justice. Those people like estrada wake up and open your eyes.Estrada is a good actor not president he bunkraft the philippine were glad that G.M.A is a strong woman.I hope his wife to must convicted too.
