Star Trek: The Future Begins

MANILA, Philippines—“What path should I follow?”

This seems to be the recurring theme in the latest episode of “Star Trek: The Future Begins,” which tells the stories of each young crew of USS Kelvin Enterprise.

We see a young Spock (Zachary Quinto)–who is confused about his half-human, half-Vulcan roots–taking a path that would later shape his life as an adult.

Spock joins James Kirk (Chris Pine), Uhura (Zo Saldana), McCoy (Karl Urban), Sulu (John Cho) and Chekov (Anton Yelchin) in a maiden voyage to stop Romulan Nero’s vengeful attack on the United Federation of Planets. In the process, the “battle” also takes place among the crew whose friendships and leaderships are tested.

Star Trek ‘First Lady’ passes away

- Sci-Fi, Star Trek -

Trekky fans are sad to hear the death of Majel Barrett Roddenberry — Star Trek’s “First Lady.”

According to the Roddenberry.com website, she passed away December 18, 2008 at 12:27 AM in her Bel Air home.

The website says “she died peacefully, in her sleep, and was surrounded by family and loved ones.”

In a statement from son Eugene Roddenberry Jr., he says: “My mother truly acknowledged and appreciated the fact that Star Trek fans played a vital role in keeping the Roddenberry dream alive for the past 42 years. It was her love for the fans, and their love in return, that kept her going for so long after my father passed away.”

‘Heroes’ returning September

- Sci-Fi, Heroes, Television -

SOMEBODY help me, Sept. 15 is too long a wait to get my “Heroes” fix.

Yup, the sci-fi show whose second season got gutted by a writer’s strike and the Un-Wonder Twins (damn you, Maya!) will be back for its third season on Sept. 15.

Here’s what the Sci Fi Wire story had to say:

Heroes will return to the schedule on Sept. 15 with an hourlong clip show premiering at 8 p.m. ET/PT and a two-hour season premiere airing at 9 p.m., its regular timeslot.

It’s been too long since we’ve had “Heroes” on our TV screens, though it helps somewhat that NBC continued the action online with Heroes Evolutions.

Anyway, to help tide us over until Sept. 15, here are “Heroes” Updates that you can also embed on your sites. Just go to the “Heroes” Updates section to grab the codes.

More ‘Heroes’ Season 2 spoilers

tv_heroes_more_spoilers.jpgNEW YORK–Last year this time, “Heroes” was just another new show hoping to find some viewers. As everyone who owns a TV knows, it succeeded. Last season’s top-rated freshman series, about a group of ordinary people with extraordinary abilities, now has fans scratching for second-season details.

While cast members know not to give away too much, some of them who came to New York last week to tout the show and a first-season DVD let slip a few plot turns. All agreed their characters will do something totally different this season.

Warning: Stop reading if you don’t want spoilers.

What’s next for ‘Heroes’?

- Sci-Fi, Heroes -

By Associated Press

britain_heroes.jpgNEW YORK–They saved the cheerleader, they saved the world — for now. But the superpeople of NBC’s “Heroes” return with a new round of intrigue next month.

Like, whatever happened to Hiro? In May’s first-season finale, the adventuresome time-traveler — who can bend the space and time continuum — found himself surrounded by samurai warriors in 17th century Japan as an eclipse darkened the sky. How ominous.

Be warned: stop reading if you don’t want any Season 2 spoilers.
