Diplomatic tit-for-tat

Posted under Philippine politics

Blogger Left Flank points to a mention I made (in my blog) about the ongoing diplomatic tussle involving Filipinos and visas. He says the Korean ambassador was being “snarky,” and that the “apology” the Korean diplomat made was meaningless.

The current fracas is diplomatic par for the course. You don’t like what certain people are doing to your countrymen, make it more difficult for their countrymen to get visas to your country.

However, as news like this: Britain expels Russian diplomats amid Cold War clouds. And this:  Russia readies ‘targeted’ response to London, shows,  from getting nasty about visas, it can be several quick steps to being nasty to each other’s diplomats, and then for countries to be nasty to each other.

I do agree with the blogger above, though. The Korean Ambassador really only apologized for not formally advising the Philippine government that the South Korean embassy intended to put Filipinos through the wringer. So, he said sorry to the DFA but the policy remains in place. But then, no one ever said the Korean’s aren’t aggressive about their interests.

Everybody, Let’s Be Snarky…

Living in Busan, ROK, I seldom get to see anything other than a smirky glare from Korean bosses, so reading about South Korean naughtiness in The Philippines is like a secret treat. John Nery and Manuel L. Quezon III amplify my response about “Sn…

There are far more important things that DFA should settle with regards to fish poaching in our national territory as said in this excerpt:

“… The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has also apparently shown partiality for the poachers.

The crew, apprehended barely 1.5-kilometer away from the ranger station, also claimed to have permits from the Maritime Authority and the Bureau of Customs, although the Ho Wan carries a Chinese flag and an all-Chinese crew.”

Check out your priorities DFA.

Its about time that the government should take a hard look of the corruption and mismanagement at the BID.Time and time again they have ignored and tolerated these problems and now its the OFW’s paying the price.

As long as we keep sending our OFW to Korea and other countries, we will always bend our ass to be kicked by these foreigner. I hope the government can help our businessman to provide jobs or entice foreign investors to invest in our country so our unemployed will stay but I am not optimistic with the kind of government officials we have.
