I think you view EDSA 2 too simplistically. Erap’s mistake was not his lack of college degree (that’s too shallow a reason to ignite middle class uprising) but his lack of finesse. He shoved his corrupt practices onto Filipinos’ faces like soured cream pie. I mean he never bothered to hide it as Ramos (for one) did.

That was not all. His crucial mistake was that his greed or lack of managerial prowess prevented him from satisfying his underlings. Eventually, he just lost control of them including the military. Erap does not have the political savvy to rule in national politics where cunning power-hungry trapos thrive.

Those people who joined EDSA 2 have many different reasons like: power grabbing (GMA), switching owners to survive (military and political lapdogs), disgust for corruption, hope for better governance (idealistic folks like my slightly younger self) and protection of wealth (businessmen who want a stable economy for their sake). I believe Erap’s poor academic background had little to do with it. His stupidity may have been a significant factor though.
