Calculated risk

10/28/07

Posted under Philippine politics

While John has his views, my views are, perhaps, slightly different, and you can find them here.

I think there are only a few things we can assume.

1. Joseph Estrada valued his freedom more than the desire of others for him to make a martyr of himself by willingly seeking out imprisonment in New Bilibid.

2. The President obviously thinks her Edsa Dos constituency will grin and bear it, complain but in the end stick it out with her, or if they finally leave her now, it doesn’t matter.

3. The long Nov. 1 & 2 holidays might dissipate political energy enough so that the resumption of hostilities with the reopening of Congress on Nov. 5 will mean momentum will have to be built up again, instead of barreling along the way it has.

Meanwhile you may be interested in the debate Dean Jorge Bocobo and I are having in the comment section of his blog, over Joker Arroyo and the Inquirer’s story on that controversial senate executive session with Romulo Neri.

pardoning erap is a good move for gma……….

i wonder why the opposition, despite the many gma blunders doesn’t gain the upper hand………

walang carisma eh, bubulaga sa iyo si guingona, binay, jinggoy, cayetano, patay na, turn off, he..he..he……..

maginoo

Accomplishments are better than trying to pull her down by politicians with no concrete proof. “Buti kita gawa kesa puro dada”

Kabayan

A “good” move or an unjust move?

Gloria’s movements are geared toward political survival, term extension and corruption cover-ups.

Perhaps her moves can be considered “good” moves for those who benefit and are glad to perpetuate evils in governance.

If Erap’s Pardon is Constitutional, Resignation Becomes a Loophole and Mockery of the Law

Tim

I will certainly be sick if and when I read in the papers again how much of a “democracy” the Philippines is, and how “justice” is blind in that country, and that the corrupt should be afraid of dipping their fingers once more in the public coffers.

I will definitely throw up.

Because this much I now know, from now on, any body who have held a visible, high position can count on a presidential clemency since GMA has set the precedent.

The only ones who need to watch out will be the lowly rank-and-file and those in the middle management of government, the regional directors down.

They MIGHT go to jail, but, then, again, who knows.

They might not.

Giving pardon to a person who remains defiant and without remorse is a clear sign of ignorance to his or her job [ as president ]

MC_90

Kabayan,

Im sure, for you, the move was good…para mas marami ka pang bala na ilaban kay GMA..mas marami ka pang masasabi….at higit sa lahat..pwde mo na naman ipagsigawan na ihalal ang idol mong si trillanes hahahahaha

abbygail

i agree w/ clipmaster’s comments…i cannot see a charismatic leader from the opposition…isama na si lacson, jamby, biazon, noynoy na ang layo sa tatay nya….
when i was young the likes of tañada, diokno, roxas, ninoy, and so many others charmed us w/ their wit, intelligence and vision and charisma too.
do you see these qualities in the opposition?
nada, nil, nothing….it is so frustrating! wala silang sinabi….

No need for a “charismatic” leader for a replacement, these has been the folly of our nation for quite some time. First thing first … As the current leadership has gone to the dogs, its time for them to leave and a Snap election be put into place.

We can assume further that:

4. GMA has no more respect for her allies knowing they are either political has-beens or discredited personalities as she is. As such they have no more political bearing or clout.

5. The Elitist Society will not be so eager to depose a president of their own kind as they did with some one they perceive as below their level therefore there is not enough outrage to propel them to EDSA.

6. There is no emerging Brutus today, as potent as the old Brutus, to incite the Elitist Society to move.

we should analyze first what is happening here. go back to history….why are politicians corrupt? the voters make them corrupt. do you think a politician can win an election w/o spending millions? a politician spends a P100M just to win. where will he get that money? from vested interest groups he will protect once he is in congress. that has been the practice from way back. do you think they can win the seat w/o spending money? no way. it is a practice called Patronage. even in the usa, we hear of “lobby money” as they go out for campaign funds. these interest groups will be paid thru concessions and contracts.
look at how halleburton contractor in iraq is being attached to dick cheney’s name. lobby money comes from multi-billion drug companies too. so, corruption is not unique in the phils. but lest i be misunderstood, i do not condone the practice. now, how do we tackle this problem? do you think a snap election will solve it? who will replace gma? cj puno does not want the job. if davide wants it, he is the most credible and honest….but does he want it?
let us think this over carefully….let our love for our country be greater than our hate for gma.
read what hsbc has to say….that we should stop the political intramurals bec. it is hurting whatever little gains we’ve had. this did not come from me, it came from a foreign investor.
our problem is rooted historically, and it cannot be solved overnight…
the politics of patronage is a vicious cycle, it breeds corruption(cronyism, pay-offs, etc.) so, if we replace gma, we will have another politician w/ difft. sets of cronies. i’ll bet my bottom dollar on it..
come 2010, vote on issues, not personalities…vote for a non-politician…

clipmaster

good move for gma because her hold to power is strenghten, she knows whats best for her……..

MC_90

Bert,

so ibalik natin idol mong si erap? hahahahaha

mc_90….sorry, hindi ako bilib kay trillanes….what has he done to deserve my vote? i know you are kidding.

clipmaster….i agree w/ u that the opposition should get a younger leader from their ranks.
someone said we should do away w/ charisma.
but, leaders from all over the world who changed the course of history had charisma or “it” hence they were able to carry out their goals(alexander the great, napoleon, julius caesar, etc.). kung walang dating, walang makikinig, walang maniniwala, di ba? ikaw ba gusto mong makinig kay guingona? wala na bang iba? hehehe.
who can be the brutus so that caesar(gma)can be toppled?
anyone?

Kabayan

Indeed my love for country is greater for any hate for any person at all and I believe that goes for a lot of Filipinos. That is why Gloria should go.

True enough Gloria knows what’s best for her, but often what she deems that’s for her is not necessarily good for the Filipinos, not good for socio-moral standards, not good for the checks and balance for democracy, and definitely NOT a good example for the current and following generations to follow.

MC_90

kabayan,

you talk about your love to our country???? yeah yeah yeah…why not just talk about your hate to GMA…and not care about filipino people…

dont pretend too much…you and bert would make the best couple on earth hahahaha

Bert

Bert

To: abbygail

How could we vote for a non-politician if he or she is not into politics? If the person who is not a politician run for president in 2010 the person becomes a politician, so we cannot vote for the person if we follow your advice. The Pacman and Chavit got charisma, will we vote for them if they run? Charisma and good governance, is it synonymous? The voters make the politicians corrupt, not the other way around, said you. You are a voter, did you make the politicians corrupt? Where will the politicians get the millions they spend during election? From vested interest group, you said? Nah, from our pockets. Love for GMA is love for country. That also synonymous?

abbygail

i am not a gma nor an erap fan…i am just being pragmatic w/ the past as basis for this kind of action. the past edsa did not produce the results we thought would come bec. of the same trapos in place. it is so easy to say the pres. should go, snap elections, rev. govt., etc. etc. who do you think can lead us from this rut? snap elections? when the masa is not an educated electorate! did they vote for the kapatiran candidates who are non-politicians? when winnie monsod and bobby tanada ran, they lost to movie stars. they voted for those whom they always see on tv, not on issues. do not be surprised if one day you’ll wake up w/ jinggoy as president, or noli or loren, then our govt. will be called abs-cbn!
God save our country!
think of another way out….

abbygail

bert,

when i say “non-politician”, i mean not a trapo. yung hindi gumagasta ng milyon-milyon sa election. joker is not a trapo, did not spend millions but he won. when i say the voters make the politicians corrupt, it is when the uneducated voters wait for money before they vote, yung mga pinamumudmud ng politiko sa bayan nya. the money spent by a politician during elections, hundreds of millions came from vested groups not from taxpayers, kaya babawi yan kapag nanalo, thru deals and govt. projects…look at how zte and nbn are allegedly linked to aboitiz and razon(treas. of team unity) of the ports. ganoon ka simple yan.
now re charisma and good governance…ex. ninoy, tañada, roxas(sadly they are gone)….yung makikinig ka dahil may laman ang sinasabi, hindi artista o coup plotter!.
the phil. star banner story today….jinggoy and binay in 2010…hindi ba totoo ang sabi ko?
that is the uneducated electorate i am talking about!

abbygail

bert….love for country is not synonymous w/ love for gma…it just so happens she is the sitting pres. if ramos is the pres., won’t rock the boat too. nagkataon lang. stability for now, since economy is fragile.

it appears the opposition pres. hopefuls were caught flatfooted, w/ the star banner story re possible jinggoy and binay team-up for 2010. i had guessed this was coming…lacson, loren, roxas and villar, ang laki ng problema nyo ngayon. gusto nyong pardon, e di ibinigay! now,
the father and son team have started campaigning in the masa territory this early. the gall and temerity….but, as i said, as long as there is an uneducated electorate, these great pretenders will win. yuckkky!

Kabayan

MC_90,

Heheh your tendencies are showing again, why not admit it in the open MC_90, your true love is this corrupt administration. Open admission may keep one from being a hypocrite you know ;)

Kabayan

Yes Bert, I noticed that myself, those who wish to defend this corrupt administration usually goes by the fallacy wherein they say that the Country is equivalent to Gloria, therefore they say that love for Gloria is equivalent to love for Country. Heheh, the propagandists should do better than that, many Filipinos are far smarter than that ;)

clipmaster

MC_90

Kabayan,

I am not surprised about the way you interpret my point here. You are on the opposition side, and knowing oppositions..all you have in your mind is to bring down the present administration…and oust GMA…

i dont think you and bert are considering the way our filipino brothers are suffering right now…I think you and bert are only thinking about your hate of the present administration…nothing more….and that seeing the present administration to go down is your only objective…but then, whats next…put trillanes as our president (of course you’d say yes hahahahhaa), put binay or lacson or whoever as the president? whoever will sit as our president…things will not change…because they all belong to one basket…sort of having different fruits in one basket…different fruits but all ROTTEN!!!!!!

As I have said before..why dont you and bert start preparing for the next election..and try to run for office..if you really believe you can make a difference…instead of pushing your idols to run our country….

I still believe that what you and bert are doing…dont do anything good to our country…you are one those who continue to push our country to the lowest level…just like the opposition….they dont care at all…they only care about their personal interests…you and bert too…

You and bert are nothing but trouble makers…you are not a responsible blogger…you just want to promote your hate to the present administration..without even thinking that the country can no longer afford another chaos…

What our country needs is genuine unity…you dont have to love GMA to do that…I dont love GMA..I dont love any politician at all…however, i also wont do something that will make our country suffer more…only to satisfy my hate against the person (like what you and bert are doing)…

I know its useless to talk to you and bert about these things…cause for sure you wont listen anyway…thats normal…thats exactly the reason why the philippines is having a hard time to move on…

BECAUSE NOBODY LISTENS….AND EVERYBODY TALKS!!!!!!!

Kabayan

Accept existing corruption where they dole out at least half a million pesos in paper bags for the sake of “stability”? Allow a corrupt and abusive administration to go with their whims just not to “rock the boat”? To think of it, that’s the least of their sins… No, I don’t think so.

Kabayan

To the “Don’t Rock the Boat Team” (Formerly known as the “Let’s Move on Team”)

This administration constantly complains that they have been the constant target of “destabilizers”, i.e. by their definition … Anyone who has a differing opinion from them and points out their malpractices.

The administration should realize that they are actually they one destabilizing the Philippines because of their greed for wealth and power. Sometimes it’s caused by incompetence and not thinking things through and properly analyzing if what they do are in the interest of the majority of the Filipino people. Oftentimes they do “All of the above” errors.

Just to show you the way they think: Through their policies they would lease out a MILLION to TWO MILLION HECTARES of arable agriculture PHILIPPINE land to a foreign power. From now on we don’t have to fear invasion of our lands, they’re planning to lease out a tenth of our agricultural lands to a foreign power for pennies worth; the same foreign power that they like to force through their ZTE and Cyber Education deal with. Our vaunted Armed Forces now do not need to defend our land; this administration is leasing out the best parts of our lands through their vague contracts and who knows with what “fine prints” added in the contract. Through our questionable “representatives” in government, we will soon be “willingly” invaded without a fight.

Instead of trusting and supporting the Filipino people to utilize OUR land; instead of creating refrigeration, storage and distribution facilities so as no one will be hungry in this country again; they lease the very asset which is supposed to be used for ensuring that we as a people do not suffer from hunger anymore.

Read below so as you may see the TRUE destablizers of our country

“Gov’t Leases 1 Million Hectares to China Firm in Vague Contract”

Excerpt:

“…This, according to a ranking official of the Department of Agriculture (DA), is the government’s main consideration when it decided to lease to China’s Jilin Fuhua Agricultural Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd. (Fuhua Co.) some one million hectares of Philippine land under vague terms. The area covers about a tenth of all Philippine agricultural land.

The DA says that the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Chinese company is just an additional strategy to meet the department’s goal under the Medium Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP), which is to develop two million hectares of agricultural land…”

http://www.newsbreak.com.ph/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3855&It

So, for the “Don’t Rock the Boat Team”; who is truly rocking the well being of our nation now?

abbygail

so, you want snap elections, to oust gma. do you think your candidate of choice who has integrity will win? no, bec. 70% of our population consists of the masa, and who is their idol? erap and his minions, lacson, loren. do you want them to lead our nation?
how i wish the idealism of kabayan and bert and mc 90 can be cloned and put into the minds of those who will lead our country. kaya ba ni jinggoy o lacson ang mga topics dito? naiintindihan ba nila ang nangyayari sa bayan?
i do not condone corruption, who does?
it is exasperating to read the papers detailing the corruption committed. exasperation leads to numbness and extreme anger.
offer us a way out of this.

MC_90

Kabayan,

yeah yeah yeah…this is all about your hate on the present administration…its never about you caring for the filipino people…its never about you loving our country….ITS PURELY HATE!!!!!

And that makes you nothing…just like your opposition idols.

Kabayan

Heheheh MC_90, going to a “Let’s Reconcile and Unite Now Strategy” in line with existing administration policy as they consolidate their next move and let their corruption “Move Forward”? Nice try though, try again. ;)

MC_90

Kabayan,

Like what I said, I never expected you to agree…just like the opposition….Again, you would rather see the continued suffering of the filipino people than compromise and make things better….

Try again? no way…waste of time and effort…you are just another small minded opposition with nothing in mind but hate..and couldt give up your pride for the betterment of the country…AND YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT YOUR LOVE TO THE COUNTRY??? nice try…try again hehehehehe

MC_90

Kabayan and Bert,

Eto na ang hinihintay nyo!!!!! GMA resign na naman!!!! Snap election daw!!!!

Kabayan

MC_90,

Heheheh MC_90, according to your statement “…Again, you would rather see the continued suffering of the filipino people than compromise and make things better…”

Compromise for what? Like how?

Is it like this: We do not bother the corrupt on their corruption while as a compromise we do not get heckled by you? Or perhaps in effect, what you’re saying is that it’s OK to stay silent while somebody is robbing you blind? … Unless of course you have a cut in it.

Heheheh indeed MC_90, try again

Oh, and by the way, it’s Filipino, not filipino… unless, of course, if you’re not one to begin with. ;)

OFW in Afghanistan

My problem with this conversation is that when you express your opinion on the glaring corrupt practices by the government, it is labelled as destabilization. Can’t this government for once, listen to what the people are saying about the bad things they are doing? For example, the NBN deal, is very much tainted by bribery practices and attempts to hide the truth but there is no effort on the part of government to charge people involved?

Mc_90, this is not about hate. It is about our leaders supposedly expected to do the right things. They have failed us miserably…I am sorry to say.

Magz

Hello every body… I dont know but maybe i’m late in this conversation or forum. But i think every body love our country and hate whats happening here. And now GMA is on her seat and everybody believe that its all her faulth. By the way the truth no any of a President will make our country in good. Coz the truth politics is dirty. A good person who wants to help our people our country when they go in politics, they’ll become dirty. Why because there lots of people there whos greedy and you know the crab mentality. They will pull you down and never push you up. They will do every thing to tear you in too pieces, to destroy untill you… your self will going to hate them and the reaction is “pangil sa pangil” You’d been good before but what happened? You’ll going to do what they’re doing hate people look everyside coz maybe someone targeting you. Poor people who wants to help the country because of the greedy and evil people who wants power you’ll became like them coz you made your self angry.

I dont know if you understand me. But better if become selfish now. If every body wants good life for their family, just do it make your self the leader of your family. Do the things for your family make decissions and think ways for life to get better. But not the way that we have the pull down the others or kick them for us to get on top of it. Do it with love, do it for your family. and if every body likes you. Every will be happy and after we will notice that our country will be better…

I dont know who will agree with me… but thats is only my point of view. MAybe i can please some but i know i cant please every body. But for all who will read this. Think… what is good hate to those politicians and their doings or being happy with your family?

THank you for reading…
Magz (Lipa Batangas)
