Trillanes vs GMA

11/29/07

Posted under Philippine politics, Rule of law

Antonio Trillanes, failed mutineer turned Senator of the Republic, has decided to play for all the marbles. After holing up in the Manila Peninsula with about 30 soldiers, he has  asked the public to choose between him and the President.

I get the sense that this pseudo-mutiny or quasi-coup will not end peacefully.

I am greatly dismayed when I learned that some catholic bishops and priests are joining Trillanes in his rebellion. They urged the Filipino people to attend demonstrations to reject what they called “morally bankrupt government”. Most if not all of these administration officials are Roman Catholic, therefore, isn’t it but a clear indication that the church led by these bishops utterly failed in its prime duty and mission of guiding the flock? Go to hell hypocrites!!!

natros: yup I am aware that they steal to recoup their huge spending on getting elected. Public office has ceased to be about public service, it has become a commercial enterprise where the main objective of getting elected is to steal public funds. There are election laws which regulate spending. The most important thing is, whatever their reason for robbing the people, it is WRONG…legally, morally, biblically, socially, etc.

    “maybe even economic sabotage”???

You are just guessing. The law is not the stockmarket wherein you base your analysis on rumors, inconclusive econoimc data, price ratio earnings, moving averages, the fibonacci scales and stochastics. Legal definitions are more precise than that. The rationale being is that it involves deprivation of life, liberty and property. I don’t think that even you would want to be prosecuted a “crime” based on a “maybe” elements.

Under the rule of lenity, any doubt as to the accused’s acts are ALWAYS construed in his favor and against the prosecutiong authority. So back to your charge of “economic sabotage,” did Trillanes, et al engage in illegal recruitment? I was just curious because PD 2018 which defines the criime of economic sabotage only refers to large scale illegal recruitment for employment purposes. Unless, he was recruiting the other soldiers to work as OFWs in Saudi Arabia without a POEA license, I don’t think their acts qualifies as “economic sabotage.”
