Trillanes vs GMA

11/29/07

Posted under Philippine politics, Rule of law

Antonio Trillanes, failed mutineer turned Senator of the Republic, has decided to play for all the marbles. After holing up in the Manila Peninsula with about 30 soldiers, he has  asked the public to choose between him and the President.

I get the sense that this pseudo-mutiny or quasi-coup will not end peacefully.

i read in one of the columns in inquirer, the reasons why trillanes’ caper failed:
    1. the weather was bad…it was raining. the previous 2 edsas were held february, no rains. pinoys hate to be wet from rain.
    2. it was held nearing a weekend, when people are busy preparing for long vacation.
    3. nov. dec. are bonus months. people are busy shopping, etc. since they have money from remittance or from bonuses.

    nagmamadali kasi……….

malacanang is the best hotel in the philippines……….

    To: Jossher:

Man, you are good, a truly moral person, and I agree with your kind of reasoning. Except one. And that is that you are espousing reverting to the Parliamentary form of government, the one thing the lovers of the scammers in blogosphere are itching to do. And for what? To perpetuate the hold to power of their idol forever, what else! Just observe. In the days to come the MUSIC TO DANCE THE CHA-CHA will start to play. Sure as the sun will shine tomorrow, the lovers of the scammers in blogosphere will then start their chorus to the tune of this Cha-Cha music. If the moral denizens invoke the silence of the lamb, and you, Jossher, want to revert to Parliamentary system, chances are the scammers could succeed in ramming their evil plan into our throat. This will result to GMA and JDV, and their hordes of congressmen holding on to power forever. And nothing change. You, Jossher, and the rest of us will be stuck in the same stinking morality of governance you so vehemently detest today. And the lovers of the scammers in blogosphere will rejoice. Hu-hu-hu-hu-hu-hu.

Priests are people too. Like you and me, they have a Constitutional right to redress their grievances against the government in public. Trying to silence people by reason of their beliefs is a dangerous thing. Isn’t that what they did to Jesus Christ when he preached against the immorality of his day? Didn’t the authorities silence him through crucifixion?

“I am greatly dismayed when I learned that some catholic bishops and priests are joining Trillanes…”

Were you also dismayed when Cardinal Sin and the church called on the people to join Enrile and Ramos during the 86 EDSA Revolution?

“in his rebellion.” There was no rebellion. Rebellion requires the “raising of arms against the government.”

I stand in the way of no one’s ambition. I only ask that no one stand in the way of the people’s well being and the nation’s progress.

The time for facing off is over. The time is here for facing forward to a better future our people so desperately want and richly deserve.

But make no mistake. I will not stand idly when anyone gets in the way of the national interest and tries to block the national vision. From where I sit, I can tell you, a President is always as strong as she wants to be.

The state of the nation is strong. Inyong lingkod, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Pangulo ng Republika ng Pilipinas.

We love You President Arroyo so much!
You are the best president so far!
