Antonio Trillanes, failed mutineer turned Senator of the Republic, has decided to play for all the marbles. After holing up in the Manila Peninsula with about 30 soldiers, he has asked the public to choose between him and the President.
I get the sense that this pseudo-mutiny or quasi-coup will not end peacefully.

“Maybe you should contemplate the words of someone like Frederik the Great who said “If I wished to punish a province, I would have it governed by philosophers.”
So you mean you’d rather have crooks running the government than people with ideals and morals? Didn’t your mother teach you stealing is bad? Oh I’m sorry, is your mother a politician?
“Sorry to tell you this but if you are studying law and the above argumentation is the best you can do I don’t think the prospects of you passing are good.”
Well, apparently that’s too late because I already have a license to practice law and a post-grad degree.
“My sympathies are extended because those starting out without capital or educational attainment face a much harder time and are at a great disadvantage.”
Sure you symphatize….sarcastically and condescendingly that is. You remind me of those types who notice other people’s misfortune just so they could feel good about themselves.
“Look at those self-righteous blowhards proclaiming how everyone is immoral and needs to be more moral.”
Well, no one actually is. “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Rom. 23. It’s no excuse though not to strive to be a better person or at least to follow the law, to follow what is right. Or at the very least to be a little considerate to 70% of the country’s population who earn less than $2 a day. People who could not even benefit from basic services because some politician would rather spend the money (which he or she doesn’t even own) to fly to Madrid on a junket. For a self-proclaimed “economist,” I can’t believe you actually think corruption is good for the economy. I don’t think even Adam Smith would agree with you.
All I’m saying is that crooks in the Philippine government need to leave so that our country can move on economically considering that corruption is the no. 1 reason why the country fell behind from our no. 2 spot in the 50’s. Is that too much to ask? Apparently for some people it is.
But don’t worry, whether I complain about corruption in the Philippines or not, won’t matter in the end because there will be divine justice whether you believe in it or not…”Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Cor. 6:10.
I agree…the Philippines is a Banana Republic….the reason? Corruption and because of people who think its ok. That’s precisely the reason why I left and decided live and work in a country (from where I send my hard earned OFW dollars to the Philippines) where they actually jail corrupt politicians.

jossher….natros has a point, i assume you read the scandals in the usa involving the cath. priests, they paid billions of $$ in settlement re sex scandals. they must concentrate on cleaning their ranks first before they try to accuse people of corruption.
yes, i agree, cardinal sin led us to edsa 1 and 2, but card. sin is an entirely difft. icon. people can sense his sincerity, truthfulness and he used his wit and charisma to the max. unlike these wanna-be priests and trying hard, pilit na pilit to be like sin, wala silang k, hindi bagay sa kanila! nag-iisa lang ang card. sin..sige nga, what homilies have they written for us to learn from it? nada….
re measly pay of govt. people….the only solution to that is to make pay competitive, so that good people will work for govt. and not incompetents only.
remove the temptation and opportunity.
mc_90….agree, yung idol nila na nagkape sa pen, gusto maging presidente, juskupo!
magagalit si ping, mar, villar, etal nyan!
to inesna…you are funny in a nice way, a little bit of sarcasm.
rafy canlas, manuel, tonio…..good piece, i like what you wrote re media.
if you do not like people to use the term “go to hell”….do not use the phrase “let them be burned at stake” yourselves. apply the golden rule in this blog.
You are the first person I have heard in my entire life that says idealism is or morals for that matter are bad.
Then you’re welcome. Perhaps you should start expanding your horizons. Almost anything when taken to an extreme can turn out badly. Ice cream is delicious to eat; too much, however, and you might experience heartburn. Communism can be said to be a more idealistic system of government than a capitalist democracy. Unfortunately it doesn’t work. Maybe you should contemplate the words of someone like Frederik the Great who said “If I wished to punish a province, I would have it governed by philosophers.”
Fugitive? The term “fugitive” as in fuigitive from justice means “a person convicted a crime who hides from the law.” Apparently, in your world Trillanes is already guilty before a court of competent jurisdiction declares him to be such. Apparently, you also missed the class on a person’s right to be “presumed innocent” until proven otherwise.
…Due process means the right to be heard (in court) before one is arrested or incarcerated. Which constitutional standard of reasonableness are you referring to? I’m not even sure if they still do that in the former communist block.
I still have to read a case penned by the Philippine or U.S. Supreme Court which espouses such a standard.
Sorry to tell you this but if you are studying law and the above argumentation is the best you can do I don’t think the prospects of you passing are good. Look up the words “fugitive” and “arrest” in a dictionary. You’re reading and comprehension needs work. Both from a legalistic and common sense point of view you are spouting nonsense. A fugitive need not be convicted. A suspect is arrested before being brought to court to face a judge. Considering the above forgive me if I think your ability to interpret laws is gravely lacking and if I am completely unimpressed by your citation of various laws.
From your statement[…] It appears that you only think about yourself and your profits. Clearly a SELFISH individual who does not care about his country and his fellowmen. Now I understand why you seem not to like the “morality” and “idealism” arguments.
Selfish? Yes. But not caring about my country? No. I care about my country that’s why I am expressing my disdain for the hypocritical stupid ideas I see bandied around all the time by my countrymen like you in this blog. Your understanding of selfishness seems limited. Read Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations. Self interest is what makes capitalism work and why it is so successful.
You also seem to have some sort of “superiority complex” bordering on narcisistic tendencies. Looking down at people by reason of their low educational level or financial inability, just shows the kind of values you were taught. It’s sad.
Your statement once again shows poor reading and comprehension. My sympathies are extended because those starting out without capital or educational attainment face a much harder time and are at a great disadvantage.
You want to find people with a superiority complex? Look at those self-righteous blowhards proclaiming how everyone is immoral and needs to be more moral. You need look no further than a mirror. I’d simply ignore such talk if what what was said was helping this country but it’s not. It’s making this country worse. People like you are out of touch with reality. Next time you hear the sentiment that the Philippines is a banana republic or that the Church has been a bad influence maybe just maybe you might start to understand why.

“Go to hell hypocrites!!!” ….the response when one runs out of arguments.
