What would YOU do …

if you were in their shoes?

Faithful reader Abbygail asks a provocative question:

… if you will be tapped by the govt. to serve in teves’ shoes, what will you do to change the rut we’re in? help the people w/ your ideas. we cannot be blaming each other forever and just sit still. what will you do if given that chance to serve?

I personally do not think that an interactive forum like ours requires its participants to offer specific alternatives (in contrast, for example, to a newspaper editorial). It’s more than enough to express ourselves and discuss issues with others. But I do share Abbygail’s concern about moving forward (note, please, that I did not use that old plea to “move on” — euphemism for forgiving and forgetting).

If we were in a high official’s place, what, specifically, would we do? No need to limit ourselves to Finance Secretary Gary Teves; how about we choose one department (say, DND) or agency (say, Pagcor), and then offer our proposed (specific) solutions?

Should be interesting. But, please, keep it specific. As they say, God (or the devil) is in the details.

the idea we are looking for is not likely to come from from the dreams and hopes of one of us. review the postings. most are simplistic, some inane, some ignorant.

unless an intellectual giant is born among us, our hope will not come from a single individual.

i say, let’s all review our system of goverment. think of a change in the system that will prevent some problem we have now from arising.

take the problem with the presidency. if you want to kick out arroyo, and since you think you have the necessary number, why not initiate a constitutional amendment to enable impeachment by popular vote? maybe she stays until 2010, but should people again feel strongly against a future president and want to kick him/her out, we will have the option of impeaching him/her through a plebescite.

my thesis: only a change in the system of governance can we hope to improve our society. most of us don’t like it as it is. so, think.

Speaking of deceptive comments, some people speak of it while indulging in it, which make it sinisterely deceptive all the more. No one can fool the people with flowery technical statistics and half-truths. The real statistics are what the people see, hear, and feel. And SWS and Pulse Asia can attest to that. The Filipino people are utilizing their full faculties now…their brain, their sense of seeing, hearing, and feeling. The negative approval and popularity ratings in the surveys would not be there if the people are dumb.
