Reader reacts to Brother Eddie endorsement

04/24/07

Posted under Feedback

I APPEAL to all Filipino voters not to vote for all candidates endorsed by religious leaders/celebrities.

It’s about time we realize that every voter has to come up with his own candidates through his own volition.

Candidates must also realize that endorsement may bring them down. Bulok na sistema, baguhin na!

Brother Eddie should be reminded that during the 2004 election when he said God gave him the sign that he will be the next president, even his millions of followers did not matter and most of whom did not vote for him. He should not use his religion to blackmail candidates to do his way to get his “blessing”.

the endorsement made by religious leaders or sects somehow give to the people a sort of preferred list of candidates………….. the list is not absolute and obligatory…. gift of choice still resides to the people….

i think we should vote according to our conscience and not what our leaders’ recommend. filipinos should mature in election times…lets vote because we believe that the candidate can deliver basic needs. Vote wisely no to vote buying!!! Magtanda na tayo Pilipinas!

I will not vote for anyTU candidate.

Religious leaders loose their credibility once they assume messianic tendencies. how sad…

I do not believe in Brother Eddie’s endorsement. It was the least expected from him, having lost to GMA in 2004 elections. Surely, he has no credibility when he even cannot entice his members to vote for him solidly in the last presidential elections. His previous pronoucements that he can bring millions in the streets during protests vs. GMA was a bluff. Go away!

How can a God-fearing, born again Christian like Bro. Eddie and his followers endorse the re-election of someone like Ping Lacson who is suspected until now of being involved in summary executions or “salvagings”? Sabagay, the biggest mystery is how come a Harvard graduate like Joel Villanueva became part of a marginalized sector.

Let us not enslave our selves to the dictate of religious leaders. Let us vote according to our own choice and allow our eyes, not our “hands”, to scrutinize the person of the candidate which are choosing.

If we want to vote for traditional politicos, then we go vote for them. Anyway, we are contented with their sweet words and good singing voice, rather in their principles and perfomances in their past offices.

If we want to vote for “puppies” of the administration, then we shall go to the precinct and write their names in the ballot. However, the unanswered Hello Garci controversy and other more issues shall be left in the dustbin of the Senate and Congress…your slain mediamen and youth leaders shall rest without their deaths being resolved.

If we prefer the candidates from the opposition, then, we vote for them. But if one of them goes balimbing in the future, then it will be us who shall answer: whose fault was it? … In the future, these candidates shall counter decisions from the administration which are hastily done, like: Charter Change or even putting Gloria in power forever (until God saves us through her death).

Bro. Eddie or any religious leader has NO RIGHT to block our votes! This election is not only about them but ABOUT US!

This election is about our future if we shall have a federal-parliamentart form of governmwnt with Gloria as Prime Minister. ..This election shall determine whether we shall have OUR VOICE or THEIR VOICE in the legislation and in our local governments.

We shall vote according to our preference not according to the preference of our pastor, teacher or superiors! kinabukasan nating lahat ito, hindi lang ng iisang tao..

Brother Eddie is not really a servant of God but rather a servant of politicians. His preaching is not of spiritual fulfillment of his followers but for his personal interest.

And so to other so called spiritual leader milking their followers for their daily bread.

With the way our religious leaders are meddling in politics to gain power or as king maker, we are getting dangerously closer to a religious wars, fitting candidates endorsed by one church groups against another endorsed by another religious group. We should put a stop to this endorsement by voting against their candidates.

Andy

How about the heads of the Iglesia Ni Cristo who dictates their followers upon whom to vote? INC is more grevious than that of Eddie the punk.

How cheap for such a religion kuno. tsek tsek tsek.

SAD you left out a good woman of God. Tesi Aquino Oreta, has been born again now for 4 years as she professed & lived out her faith in public. Have you left her “OUT” of public indorsement, due to your un-forgiveness & hatred for pgma ???
EDDIE your colors are showing.

With the way our religious leaders are trying to dupe us, I’m inclined to vote for TU. But until the election day, this may change. I still have Ang Kapatiran in mind.

Gen George Patton once said, “Leadership is the thing that wins battles.”

Our nation lies in a state of hopelessness and desperation, precisely due to so many “none leaders” in government. Our nation hungers for heroes, for better leaders, and part of the problem is that most of the few good men left in the country have abdicated the selection of leaders, and governance as a whole, to the current crop of corrupt, incompetent, and self-serving traditional politicians we have today.

ALL leaders, whether in government, business, religion, or the rest of civil-society, have as part of their responsibility to use their authority and influence, in a manner that serves the interest of the greater good. Striving to replace government with better leaders is for the greater good.

I am a born again Christian, but not part of Brother Eddie’s JESUS IS LORD movement. I may not agree with all the candidates his group endorsed, but I completely agree with his criteria for selection of leaders: LEADERS OF COURAGE, COMPETENCE, CHARACTER, COMPASSION FOR THE POOR, PRINCIPLE AND PASSION FOR GOD & COUNTRY.

If you do not agree with this criteria, or if based on your assessment, you do not agree with those in his “list” that do not pass the criteria, THEN by all means do not VOTE for them.

But let us not malign a good person, a man of God at that, for trying to do his share in providing guidance and installing more righteous leaders in government.

Edmund Burke’s famous lines fits this situation perfectly. “All it takes for evil to succeed, is for good men to do nothing.”
We must ask ourselves, “what have we done to block evil or promote good lately”? What courage have I shown? How have I used my competence for others? How passionate am I for God, and family and country?

I believe Bro.Eddie is sincere in trying to guide his flock - and those who respect him- to improve this flawed government, by installing better leaders.. I congratulate him for speaking out as a “voice in the wilderness” despite the risk of such vile comments and rejection. I pray God’s favor be upon him and his kind, that God’s will for our nation be done through Bro.Eddie and his followers, for His glory and honor.

Sincerely,

Joseph N. Pangilinan

Bro. Eddie is untouchable just like in the old testament where spiritual man of God is
defended by God Himself . He is accountable to God if he keeps quiet , let him speak !
