TO THOSE who sold their votes for P20, P50, P100, P500, P1, 000, P2, 000 — let this article be a reminder that this will be the last amount of money that you will see from your chosen candidate until the next election. Let this article be a reminder to you that for that amount of money, your chosen candidate will be taking 10 times as much money from you.

To the vote selling public, you are what is wrong with the Philippines; because of your weakness of conviction, you have let another election pass you by.
When I hear Filipino citizens criticize candidates because of the lack of money they gave, I wonder just how much they understand or comprehend what they are saying. Do they not know that the money that is being given to them for their vote is probably coming from the Filipino public as well?
When I hear Filipino citizens judge a candidate by how much money they gave, it is yet another slap in the face for those Filipinos who consider their vote a prized possession.
So, to the vote selling public, you are as guilty as those officers and candidates who buy your vote. You are participating in the economics of cheating, the economics of bribery, and the economic of fools. Thus, do not complain if the candidate you voted for, the same candidate who bought your vote, who bought your integrity, is the same candidate who does not make good on his promise of making your life better. Are you telling me that you trust a candidate to do all that he promised, when he doesn’t even have the integrity to run a campaign that is clean and honest?
To the vote selling public, enjoy your misery!
To those who voted and did not sell their votes, I applaud your integrity, and let your integrity and love of your country be the start of a brighter Philippines. Do not be dismayed by reports of those who sold their soul, because in the end, you are what makes the Philippines a great nation. You are the true Filipino.

Is it safe to conclude that it is the marginalized who took money, hence the masa vote?
Manuel Aquino Jr.
Even if I didn’t sold my so called “sacred” vote its the same thing, those crooked politicians will still take 10 times (or probably more) of the money from us the public. So for those who got 20 50 100 500 1000 etc at least they got something out of it, not empty handed like me… what I’m saying is, the problem is the system it is flawed end to end even if I won’t ever sell my vote those crooked politicians will “always” get their 10 times share from the public. So to sell or not to sell? I’d say I better leave the country find work abroad because I won’t waste my time in the hopeless beloved country of ours…

Vote buyers + vote sellers= corrupt citizens. What can you do in this world and era of monetarism. I don’t live in the Phil but occasionally I come for holidays. I can honestly tell you money speaks louder than words. Each time a meeting is organized by global leaders what do they talk about. Its all about investments making money. There may not be votebuying in their election campaign as to what it is in the Phil but bribery and tactics are obvious in their policy platform eg. tax cuts for income earners according to their bracket of income, incentives for babyboomers, bonuses for pensioners and other incentives allocated in the budget only to find out after the election it is taken back slowly from people. The difference of course…is not done corruptively. If only politics in our country is improved by major political parties offering incentives in their campaign agenda then maybe these obvious corruption will be eradicated like pests. Let us not criticize the country… our beloved country we called. It has no faults. We filipinos who lives abroad dont find it easy.We are still very lucky we have home to call unlike people in lebanon a war again brokeout and everything will be in ruins. Let us pray for better Phil.

When our countrymen regard elections like a cockfight, when people who “earn” during elections see only their immediate needs rather than three years of regret, when people entrust their sources of livelihood from politicians, vote-selling and vote-buying is here to stay. Until every Filipino will learn to stand on their own and not relying on the mercy of those in power, we’ll always have political dynasties, dubious elections and corrupt government officials.

from what i have seen in the last election, i’d say the elctorate has already matured a lot. May not be the entire voting population, but a good percentage of it.
voters indeed still take money from politicians. but they take only from the candicates they have already decided to vote for. they don’y sell their votes. they merely try to profit from it.
after all, food on the table still mean si much for these people the government and society have neglected so much.

But really, you can’t blame people if they do sell their vote. They do it out of necessity since for them, financial benefit is always better than something abstract, say integrity. What you point your finger at here are those who are actually struggling everyday just to put something edible on the table. But of course, i dont contradict your opinion. Only that it is poverty that drives them to exchange their vote for bills. Solve poverty, educate the people and make them a dignified people who will value their votes.

I still believe that there’s democracy in the philippines. that’s why people will do what they do right now, either wrong or right! but the people in power (goverment) can and could control it for you.
as someone pointed out, “gloria” have been doing irregular thing since she took the “seat of power”, i don’t know why but she is the only pres. that i know that can “rub it to your face”, that she did something wrong, and get away with it…

They would promise anything, And everything so that they can be install, Or stay into her stolen power just like Gloria Arroyo. How can you even trust her when she already proven herself to be a number one liar.

Yep! You’re 100% correct. The only reason Gloria Arroyo, Get away with anything because the filipino people let her get away with it even murder.
That is because she control the corrupt justice system.
If the filipino people is not going to do something about it, Then we all deserve what we’re getting. She can get us kill anytime she want just like what is happening now. If you speak against her bugos regime. She will throw your ass in jail. If not she’s going to have you kill.

Yeah, You got that right. It doesn’t matter if you sold your vote or not. If the candidates want to win in office they’re going to steal your votes anyway. Just like what Gloria Arroyo, Did in May 10, 2004. Presidential election. So, Whats the different?
Can you honestly answer this? come on! I dare you! I don’t want to hear your bullshit about people selling their votes on election time. These candidates should not be doing it. But they’re! so they’re the evil one. The poor only accepting the money so that they can be able to buy grocery. Can you really blame them.
For as long as these idiots in government keep robbing the country coffer the Philippines well never get out from under.
If I don’t have any money to buy food and these idiots given me money in exchange for my votes, Why not. Either way they’re going to steal it. And its going on as we speak.

How can we choice a lesser evils when just about everybody is evil. Yes, Of course alternatives is the only solution. There is no other way! Just like whats happening in Pangpanga. They can’t choice any lesser evil because they’re all the same.
Thats when the ask Father Ed: To run in office. Like you said, Create ALTERNATIVES! They make a good decision on this one. Because if they didn’t do something about it. sila rin ang magdusa. I’m glad father Ed. Win!!!

The Voice of the People daw is the Voice of God. If the people votes for corrupt candidates because of monetary benefits, is it the candidates fault?
If Congress cannot muster enough votes to oust Gloria, is it the fault of those who voted otherwise?
Why do people complain, complain and complain but when election time comes, vote for the same, corrupt politicians.
Juan

Like I’ve said, our country can’t be truly democratic because most of our population is poor who needs the basic before they can think straight.

Hindi talaga naiiwasan ang vote buying. kahit sa ibang bansa ka, may ganun e.

“Fr: Salina.
Pian: Do you still believe that there is demoracy in the Philippines? kasi sa tingin ko there is no demoracy in the philippines because Gloria Arroyo, Et al. Shitting on it.”
if you’re going to ask me that question, my answer would be, YES! (big Y-E-S)
yes, democracy is very much alive in our country. some might say, that, its gone but if you’re goingto examine it in all aspects, DEMOCRACY is very much alive in our country.
kung wala kasing democracy:
1. walang yayaman ng sobra sobra.
2. news on tv, d makakapag criticize sa government.
3. walang NIGHTLIFE sa malate, greenbelt, libis, and baywalk. (wwaaaaaaaaaaaa ayoko nun)
and lastly,
kaya, sa akin, democracy is very much alive in our country.
vote buying is another proof that it(democracy) is in our nation.
ayala, henry sy(may ari ng SM, equitable pci, and banco de oro, and nahigitan na ang yaman ng mga ayala), zobel, roxas, ESTRADA, ARROYO, PICHAY, PIMENTEL, AQUINO can testify the presence of democracy in our country.

How awful would be a Filipino, with the only right (right for suffrage) on his hand being sold for a price! And how hypocrite some people are, after crying for honesty and truth in the cheating of 2004 elections, would now be proud to admit that they would accept money from politicians in exchange for his right. Anyone can sense that even at the grassroots, corruption proliferates. And these people would rally in the streets demanding for what? Change? Reformation starts from the hearts and minds, individual. Not government. Poor individuals….
Kabayan
Democracy is alive in the country because of the people who resist those who wish to impose authoritarian rule.
If it were not for those brave men and women who resisted the attempts of Gloria administration to remove democracy, we will be under a dictatorship right now.
However, these abusive and corrupt people in government will still attempt to gain total power through whatever means so it is up for the decent Filipino people to be vigilant.
Let us remember that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
Kaya mabuhay sa taumbayan na sumalungat at patuloy na sumasalungat sa mga taong gustung gawin uling isang diktatura ang pamahalaang Pilipinas!
Pian
There can never be a true democracy in our country until we achieve first-world status where our economy is not easily rocked by forms of stabilization. In other words, our democracy in itself is a myth.
Kabayan
First world status is not required to attain democracy. The very essence of democracy is the freedom of different sectors and members of society to interact with each other based on the principles of democracy such as freedom of speech, right to public assembly, freedom of the press etc.
The way Gloria and his cohorts wants it is to have a dictatorship to supposedly attain first world status. This is not only a lame way to do it but it was tried before and failed miserably. It is a reasoning that eventually leads to greed, corruption and abuse of power.
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Pian
TO KABAYAN
First, our people need to be freed from the slavery of poverty, hence the 1st world status, so that all forms of destabilization will not shake our economy, just like in the US. Singapore is the most progressive Asian country and hence, the least corrupt.
