The Capampangans made the right choice

05/30/07

Posted under Feedback

I AM writing in response to Mr. Escano’s letter to the editor dated May 25, 2007.

I recommend that Mr. Escano visit Among Ed’s website to get to know the character behind the person. He is likewise welcome to read and participate in our forum to get to know the people supporting Among Ed.

In response to your questions and concerns:

1. Among Ed is definitely not like Erap. In his 26 years in his priesthood, he never sired children from different women and he did not enrich himself even if he had access to millions of pesos as the head of the Social Action Center of Pampanga.

2. On population control. Population is not a problem in Pampanga. However, this issue will be tackle by Among Ed when he addresses the problem of poverty. Poverty is one major cause in the ballooning of our population.

3. Gays and lesbians. Among Ed has gay and lesbian supporters and he does not shun away from them.

4. Donations from illegal funds. To my knowledge, even as a priest, he didn’t knowingly accept any donations coming from illegal sources. One thing you should have tried to understand Mr. Escano is that Among Ed did not run out of his ambition to become famous or powerful. You should understand that we Capampangans did not have a viable choice for governor before he joined the campaign. One is the wife of an alleged gambling lord while one is tainted with graft and corruption borne of the quarrying activities in Pampanga.

Were you in our position, Mr. Escano, what would you have done?

I can safely predict that the “Genuine Opposition” and “Team Unity” winning candidates will shift political alignments as soon as they start aspiring for 2010.In this country ,ther are no real political parties, only political “marriages of convenience.

In fact, the dramatic shiftings in the senate will start as soon as they jockey for positions like the Senate Presidency. The “majority” or “minority” blocs will just be based on “paramihan ng boto sa Senado”.Naloko nanaman tayo ng mga politico, opposition vs administration
daw!

Monico

With a small majority defeating the old corrupt system, just proves that there is still a lot that needs to be done even in Pampanga. Fr. Ed’s win is nothing short of a miracle. Fonder upon the crucifixion-Christ between 2 thieves; but this time, with the hope that not 1 but both of them would repent and join in the work with Fr. Ed to make Pampanga a model town for the nation to follow. This is for our children and grandchildren and for their children and their grand children to come. The task is too great but we have to make the sacrifice … an investment for the future and for a joyous celebration on the next life to come. There are still a lot of good Filipinos even though they’re not much more than the bad. The good may have won the fight but the battle continues … to make everyone a good Filipino. Let’s keep our prayers for each one of us, for Father Ed, for Pampanga, and for our nation.

Mike D concedes; Binay: Other TU bets should, too

By Sherwin C. Olaes and Ben Gines Jr.

05/31/2007

President Arroyo’s most trusted aide and her senatorial bet Michael Defensor yesterday conceded defeat after the gruelling canvassing of votes for the Senate’s 12 vacant seats where he had been a laggard at 15th place among the other candidates of the administration’s Team Unity (TU) in the May 14 mid-term elections.

Defensor said his throwing in the towel was necessary to dismiss suspicion that he would engage in dagdag-bawas (vote padding-vote shaving) to attain a fraudulent victory.

Not only Defensor but all other losing TU senatorial candidates should concede defeat.

United Opposition (UNO) chairman and Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay also yesterday said he was giving the advice in the light of Mrs. Arroyo’s appeal for everyone to accept the results of the May 14 elections.

In a statement read before the press at the Sulo Hotel in Quezon City, Defensor, former presidential chief of staff, said though the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the poll

watchdog National Citizens Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) are still awaiting the conveyance of votes coming from all over the country and as Filipinos also await the results of the official canvassing, he has seen the numbers based on reports of his staff officers.

“While the final outcome may not be determined, I am already sure that I cannot land within the Magic 12 of the senatorial seats. It is just numerically impossible and for this I concede. I concede to ease the tension on the ground and to dismiss any notion that there may be illegal acts committed to attain my victory,” Defensor said.

“I concede so as to enjoin my allies and friends who may want, in their desire to have me win, commit acts inimical to the essence of democracy and fair play in an an electoral battle. I concede because I love my family and I want my children to learn that there is honor in defeat,” he added.

Defensor explained his action was his alone and he never consulted Mrs. Arroyo about it.

“It was my personal decision and I have not informed the President about it,” he said.

Defensor sent an apparent signal to other TU senatorial bets who are similarly trailing mostly Genuine Opposition (GO) rivals, except for reelectionist Ralph Recto and Rep. Juan Miguel Zubiri (Bukidnon), to also concede defeat.

Accepting their loss, he said, will pave the way for reconciliation, healing of wounds of the past and building the country.

I salute Mike D. For his courage to concede so that the country can move forward. NOW, THIS IS THE REAL UNITY.

The only reason TU candidates are losing because the filipino people can see how you protect Gloria Arroyo, Even the wrong She has done you’re making it right. And the filipino people is not blind not to see this. Mike D. You should learn your lesson from your mistake. Godbless you!

I salute all the kapangpangan for the right choice to of their candidates.

And Yes, Father Ed. Is not Erap! Definately not. I’m pretty sure Father Ed. Do the right thing for the people of kapangpangan.

But made no mistake gamble lord wife almost wins this election because she speend plenty of money this election she’s buying most of the voters in Pangpanga. And you knew it too. Thank god! she didn’t win. Kong ng kataon pulotin kayong lahat sa inferno.

I was surprise also that you didn’t support Gloria Arroyo, Candidates even though she’s been given plenty of money for social service in pangpanga. She only do that to the city who’s been supporting her. Thank god! the filipino people pangpanga mature! We all should be too.
If we want to for the Philippines move forward.

I guess thats it. Kahit anong pa ang bawin ninyo pangdaya the filipino people are watching.

And just to let you know, WE JUST HAD A PEOPLE POWER VOTES. BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT IF WE ARE GOING TO TAKE IT TO COURT OR THE STREET NOTHING GOOD WELL HAPPEN BECAUSE SHE CONTROL THE ENTIRE CORRUPT JUSTICE SYSTEM. ALL I CAN SAY, IS. DON’T PRESS YOUR LUCK!

To the likes of Escano, this maxim is applicable:

To those who believe, no explanation is necessary. To those who don’t believe, no explanation is possible.

Edith

Yes, I agree with Vic Waje. I am a OFW Capampangan and was not able to vote but I am proud and honored that our cabalen back home we were able to eliminate those gambling lords and corrupt officials from our government. I am hoping and praying that Among Ed will be able to put our province in order

Heraclio G.Conde

Yes we did.
I’m not from Pampanga but I am capampangan,in my opinion, the decision
they have made in voting and supporting Among Ed all the way was something to be proud of.

Fairlane Inso

I believe the Kapampangans did the right thing. The Kapampangans did not only choose him for he’s a priest but also of his platforms and his heart to serve Pampanga. And please don’t compare Among Ed to Erap, he’s very much different from the deposed president.

Mightor

Buti naman si father ed panlilio ang nanalo kasi at leat maiba iba naman ang mukha ng pulitika sa pampanga.

boloy

you should have supported GMA until 2010. look what will happen to our country with this popular senators around.they will just continue pulling down her economic and social reforms by grandstanding, investigation in aid of legislation, and coup d ‘etat.

gerry

Lets see how Fr Panlilio can STOP jueteng in Pampanga and FEED the thousands who will lose their livelihood because of its eradication.

Anything less, will make him just like any politico and worse, it will weigh HEAVILY on the Catholic Church.

How do you know what father Ed. Can do. Why don’t you give him a chance. He could make a different in people lives in pangpanga. They need more than jueteng job. That is gambling. Is not good at all. You can lose the back of your shirt on this kind of job. The pangpanga people speak. They want to get rid of these corrupt juenting cronies of Gloria Arroyo. I’m glad.

What do you think Gloria Arroyo, Did. She did a coup d’tat. AGainst the duly elected President Joseph Estrada. Not atleast you don’t know any better. Gloria Arroyo, Should be in jail for what she did.

And you were saying that the filipino people going to pull down her booming economy. I’ll say, BULLSHIT. Her so call booming economy is pad just like she pad her votes to ensure her winning in May 10, 2004. Presidential election. I’ll say, She’s a thief.

I believe Among Ed cannot sustain the tremendous challenge he will be facing. At first, he is excited and determined but in the long run he will wether out and probably just accept that he will be just a failure like those previous politicians. You know why, Pampanga is the seat of jeuteng. Like a plague, it has already captured the minds of the poor. It is an illness which has no cure, except perhaps if Among Ed will implement a re-education of the old folks and prevent the youth from inheriting the weaknesses of the present generation. No amount of prayers can save Pampanga from gambling illness. Just imagine, they gamble in the morning, noon and evening. That is their life already. If some priests cannot discipline themselves, what with the weak if not wicked who cannot think of better solutions in life than gambling. Besides, what does he know and what experience he has in public administration? Can he control the provincial council, the mayors, the barangay captains, should he want to push his agenda, when these people are from different political parties, persuasions, beliefs and with different economic interests. I can only pray for him but I have grave doubts. The fact is the church is a dismal failure as far as instilling moral lessons to the laity.

ardie s.

it is very sad to say that even religion nor politics can save our country! it is already deeply tainted with corruption from top to bottom…from the presidency down to the lowest barangay level, including the “sangguniang kabataan”!!this is how politics is played in our country. everyone desires to be in politics because it is the best business right now, easy money with no sweat! porkbarrels, cdf, commissions, allocations, etc…hopeless!!it is like terminal cancer…not even the best politicians nor religious leaders like among ed can change our country. it is us, who gives patronage to this kind of politics who should change!we as individual pilipinos should change our moral values and attitudes towards life…hopeless!..only Divine intervention is the most possible solution i can think of…kawawa naman mga anak at apo natin….

Everybody want to entire politic because there is plenty of money to be made. I’ll say, Its time to abolish the pork barrel so that these politician think twice before entering politic. If the filipino people want to serve the filipino people, They should serve the filipino people from the goodness of their heart.

And the people we elect into office suppose to serve and protect the filipino people who’s the one paying their salary.
Not killing the filipino people because they knows they can. Thats abusing their power. That is not the kind of people we need in government office if we want for better Philippines.

G. Velasquez

The trashing of Garci, Pacquiao, and Lapid in the polls restored my faith in the Filipino people. The Filipino voters are not as mindless as the administration thought they were.

Cesar Montano, Richard Gomez, Tito Sotto, Christopher de Leon, Anjo Yllana, and other showbiz personalities also lost big time. There seems to be an emerging trend – popularity is no longer enough to catapult one’s political career. Are we seeing the beginning of political maturity by our people? I hope so.

There is more reason to be hopeful with the victory of Among Ed Panlilio in Pampanga. It epitomizes the triumph of good over evil. It teaches us that we do not have to settle for the lesser evil. There is always a better choice, if only people care enough to stand up and fight for it.

What an irony that this should happen in the home province of the quintessential icon of the “lesser evil syndrome” – GMA herself. Shame on her for imposing her contemptible allies – Mark Lapid and Baby Pineda, upon her provincemates. Good thing her kabalens had more sense and courage. There is hope.

Mabuhay Pilipino!!!

Thats why i said LETS SEE how Fr Panlilio would fare. Of course we should give him all the chances in the world. It is EASY to say stop jueteng and provide jobs to people- That is always the convenient and easy way out. But would there be ENOUGH jobs to all people? People who rely on POLITICOS for their livelihood, food, medicine, education of their children and burial expenses?

That will be Fr Panlilio’s challenge. Lets see how he can be successful.

Tonio

I think the Capampangans should give Fr. Panlilio some bodyguards and protection. He’s advocacy is against the jueteng Lords, these people will do anything so that they can operate. As a matter of fact one of he’s supporters has already been shot.

Jueteng lords are powerful people, they are even kingmakers. If they cannot get Fr. Panlilio to assure them of them business, they might dispose him.

I am hoping for his success.

im one of the many kapampangan who long hope for a new and brigther dawn of my beloved province, but i keep on wondering when i read and hear about the outcome of the recent election in my province, im not against Gov. elect
Ed Panlilio just because he a man of church or whatever, what i wonder is being a priest is more supreme than any other office on this earthly life cannot undo the moral decadance engulping the the life of the people including the youth and even the people who govern the province when in fact almost all of them belongs to his fold, can he now being a governor with only earthly power can perform the miracle, unless we believed that earthly power is supreme than heavenly one, never the less i one of the many pray for his success.

Kabayan

Ed Panlilio cannot do it alone, for major reforms to be implemented in Pampanga, the power of the PEOPLE and citizenry is needed to achieve this. It will be a battle galore between those who wish to stick to jueteng and other corrupt practices as a livelihood and with those who want change. I hope the people of Pampanga does not expect immediate miracles to happen because if they want real change the power is in THEIR hands.

Fr. Ed is simply a catalyst and a rallying point for these efforts. The people should understand this situation and likewise I hope that Fr. Ed would tap the citizenry and NGOs in this fight for change and reform in his area. His true power is in the decent people and organizations around him willing to help him every way they can.

Just because you vote for Koko thats don’t mean he already win. In fairness to Zubiri. Why don’t you just wait the result of counting all the ballots. To my theory Koko win this election.

Not atleast the comelec succeed on their cheating operation. If that happen Koko well be planting KAMOTE in Mindanao. Make sure to watch all the ballots counting to make sure there is no hukos pocos going to happen.

Its hard to believe even the comelec operator doing the cheating for Gloria Arroyo, They did the same thing in May 10, 2004. Presidential election. How can anybody forget when this problem has not been resolve yet. Because the comelec and Gloria Arroyo, Just swipe everything under the rug.

For as long as Gloria Arroyo, The one in power nothing good well happen. All the corruption that is happening just going to trash it into the pasig river.

KApampgans made the right choice..

but the barangay captains pay the right price.. or will pay the right price..

kawawa naman sila..

dapat kasi hindi na sila sumali sa labanan..
