I HAVE been following the last midterm elections and was elated that the people
finally let their voices be heard by voting for change.
Historically, during elections, whoever has the most money and influence gets t
he seat; thankfully that trend has changed -- at least for the last election.
Now, what I cannot believe is how does a bunch of senators voted into office n
ot because people want them to be senators but because they represent the oppos
ition, have turned their back to their ideologies and to what they promised to
the people that voted for them that there will be change if they win the electi
on.
How can they do the changes they promised if all of the important committees will still be controlled by the administration?
Deep in my heart, I would like to commend Senator [Antonio] Trillanes [IV] and
hopefully he will stay as a true servant to the people and serve his mandate wi
th dignity! To the following
Senators (Escudero, Estrada, Cayetano), there is no way you can save your manda
te to the people now that you've joined the administration!

The reality in Philippine politics is; "there is never a clear delineation bet
ween opposition and administration." One can change party affiliation in split
seconds. Upper House of congress is a 24 different republics, believing that
each has its own turf and kingdom. Positioning among themselves where they cou
ld get the most coveted chairmanship of different committees. Anyway, as what
Senator Santiago lenghtily discussed, Senators get a sizeable amount of compens
ation from the different committees where they are either a member or a Chairpe
rson. GO Senators are not ingrates, they just follow the path most travelled. I
don't think their respective position on different issues will change for now
but I'm sure it will. Hope its for the best of the masses where they trumpette
dly represent.
This a shame on our politics, this will leave a mark. People will be uncertain
next time around. Senator Trillanes is still the last man standing. He will die
for his ideologies , to his belief, and to his countrymen. I know he doesn't s
upport Estrada much but he supported his collegues like Koko Pimentel. He acc
used Subiri as a cheat, Which we all know what really happened in Maguindanao.
I can't believe what the Government are trying to portray. Election frauds were
openly accepted by the government. As if it's a traffic violation. Trillanes w
ill set a trend in Philippine politics, I'm not sure how or what. And I hope No
thing bad happen to him.
Pinoys should not be surprised for the sudden turn of events in the senate, jus
t in the case of Escudero, Cayetano & Estrada moving to the camp of the adm
inistration!!! what a sham ! people voted them to safeguard the public interes
t but it looks like they just want to protect their own agenda!!!
I HOPE ONE DAY ALL PINOYS WILL WAKE UP AND UNITE TOGETHER TO REMOVED ALL THESE
TRAPOS POLITICIAN ! BECAUSE I BELIEVED THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT DOING WHAT IS
BEST FOR THE COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE.
While it is troubling indeed, I reserve my judgments on these actions of Escude
ro and Cayetano until I see how they play their cards. This is one of the reali
ties of Philippine politics, people will surely see through their motives. The
opposition's hands are tied right now. While they won the election, these leech
es, this administration still enjoys the upperhand in commanding the resources.
This administration is really, very, very, very bad news for the Filipinos.
hahaha..
d from the start.. hehehe..
so you mean gusto nyong maging lapdog ng oposisyon sina estrada, cayetano and e
scudero? ano man sabihin nyo susundin nila?
Politics is addtion according to them..
nagtatanong lang po..
people voted for the GO candidates as an oppostion. Even if a term sharing opti
on is the last alternative rather a coalition with the administration, they mus
t stick together.
All these talks about whether the senate is opposition or administration are pr
etty confusing. Far as the last senatorial election was concern, Villar was not
administration, therefore the fight today for senate president between Pimente
l and Villar is between two opposition senators. Either way, the result would n
ot make a pro-administration senate. So, us worried citizens, have no reason to
worry. Here's the rub. If people, like my friend here, OFW in Afghanistan, who
favors dancing the chacha, do nothing now to prevent it from happening, there
will be no presidential election on year 2010. That means that the proponents o
f chacha will take hold of the government, a new kind of government, and will l
ead the nations further down the sink hole as they did already. Good for my fri
end because that's what he wants, not good for me and you, and the nation. If O
FW in Afghanistan should change his mind, and the chacha dancing don't material
ize, then us good citizens will have another chance at political reforms we wan
t during the next 2010 presidential and senatorial election, like we did in the
last. We will do it little by little, sudden change like 'people power' does n
ot work. We should not expect miracle, ideal transformation will not happen ove
rnight. Abrupt rising required only as a last recourse. We have done it last Ma
y election, let's continue, slow but sure. Making Zubiri won by this administra
tion is a pyrrhic victory for them, the people knows, so they lost more politic
al grounds because of what they did. The knees of the actual administration sen
ators today (we know who they are) should be shaking with fear already, electio
n time for them is barely three years away. I'll bet some of them are already c
ontemplating of going to Tanay this early, including Zubiri, if they know how t
o learn lesson from past experience. My point is-no chance will this senate go
administration. Unless OFW in Afghanistan continue to insists on dancing the ch
acha....and NO-EL is forthcoming.
The Filipino people deserve the politicians they have voted for!
Mga Kababayan ko: kailan pa kayo matututo? Habang panahon na lang ba kayong m
agpapauto, magpapakatanga?
Wow! Now GO supporters are worried sick that their principled Senators are show
ing this early to be not as principled as thought after all. Oh well, I thought
the people are now wiser by choosing the better candidates? If one throws away
the company with whom he fought his way to victory just like one changes shirt
s for personal interests, where is the integrity there? To think that the regul
ar session has not even began. This is what we get by being too gullible and be
lieving the hype and sound bites dished out by GO senators during the campaign
. Like I always say, we deserve the kind of politicians we have.
Kasi naman, as if the Philippines will reverse gear and become the giant it ho
pes to be just by mere electing GO senators whom the voters conveniently forget
are almost clones of the TU senators. And we are proudly claiming that the vot
ers have matured huh! True maturity is measured not by voting all opposition to
spite a deeply hated (by GO voters) administration but by transcending biases
and emotional outbursts. Yucks!
I think the people voted mostly GO candidates to the Senate for one reason only
Even if most opposition candidates won most of the Senate seats, the citizen's
lives will not improve. It is the pockets of these newly elected senators that
will greatly improve what with their millions of pork money and other gimmicks.
People should work instead to uplift their lives
The problem with the opposition is that they are a bunch of power hungry people
. Just like any other politician. Trillanes? That bonehead? He should be thrown
in jail for life.
It is too early to judge whether a politician is either a Pro Administration or
Opposition...I am not a Pro Administration however, what we need right now is
change for the better. We have been opposing many past administrations in the p
ast but the living standards of our fellow Filipinos has not changed. Why don't
we try to help the government in alleviating the peace and living standards of
the whole nation...We ask our kababayans to refrain or minimize rallies, wala
namang nagyayari. I ask the whole nation to observe in the next 90 days for cha
nge. Let us give our honorable Senators change to prove themselves before we ju
dge them.
!!
OFW from Kazakstan
bawat isa di ba! oposisyon o maka-administration man, iisa lamang ang kanilang
agenda with the same reasons..to help uplift the poverty line.
HOY GISING !!!
I am not worried if those who ran under the opposition would not live up to the
expectations of those who brought them to their position. It will be a kiss of
death on their part to be identified with a hated administration. In the elect
ions, they will realize that the people are not blind at all!
That is the traditional politics in RP. Politicians go with the flow where the
money is. These ingrates Oppositions are just being generous to themselves.
There is no money with just being with the opposition. They just used the issu
es against the Arroyo government. They just used ERAP. After being elected to
the Senate, they don't have any use of these and will now concentrate where t
he money is. In Six years you will see where these opposition senators are, en
joying the luxury of having power and money.
for the sake of the filipino people, be it an opposition or admininistration th
ey should come up with a common cause,we need to be politically mature, too muc
h politiking is not doing us any good. At least we have younger and fresher hea

f the older guys inthe senate, to be fair let go the bad practices adopt the go

when? least you grow old also in the senate just like the old guys there just e

of the Philillipines, maybe this is every filipino politicians motto, things s
hould change guys we all have needs but lets not change the difinition of a pub

bastosan parin sa senado
hindi lang sila ingrato, sila ay:

manloloko....

pekeng opposition....
oppurtunista....
bahala na kayo kung ano pa.....
GO had a good showing at the recently concluded senatorial race, most especial
ly Francis Chiz Escudero who landed almost at the top of the contest. Personall
y,I think that people voted for him because the people thought that they were v
oting for that lead singer of the band which call themselves "BAMBOO".
I believe that the blogs printed here in the inquirer are all anti-administrati
on. This newspaper is undemocratic, as it chooses only the views that are anti-
gloria. It accuses Gloria for most of society's ills, but never really looked at
itself in the mirror.
Yun na nga ang problema e!. I believe federalism is really good for the country
cial election sa Maguindanao to have fairness, ayaw naman. I think everyone sho
uld understand that the people of Cagayan de Oro and the whole of Mindanao is m
ore secure having Migz as our representative rather than Koko who did nothing t
ogether with his father. They only remember CDO during elections. After that wa
Ewan
ko ba why many of our countrymen could not realize how unpopular the pimentels
are in CDO.
they are just united during eleksyon kasi alam nilang maraming uto utong botant

Charter Change is not bad, Bert. I just want to emphasize that it should not be
done now because I do not trust the process and the people behind it. Our cons
titution is not perfect, I have no problems with that now. We cannot make it pe
rfect and even when it is perfect, it is the men and women in the Upper and Low
er Houses, the Executive and the Judiciary who interprets them. Most often, we
get the most foolish interpretation. If we get a group of people who only have
the best interests of the Filipinos and the Philippines in mind, I would go for
Charter Change. See, I have certain conditions before we can dance the Chacha.
As I said, I reserve my judgment on the Genuine Opposition senators until I see
how they vote on issues that seriously matter in Philippine politics and gover
nance such as graft and corruption, US-RP relations, inclusion of views and per
spectives of marginalized groups, job creation, gender equality, trade relation
s, etc. This administration is losing ground, I agree with you on that. I do no
t think No Election will be a choice in 2010. That is stretching peopleâs patie
nce.
Genuine Opposition! duh!
I am terribly, terribly sorry and sad when I learned about escudero and cayetan
o's decision to side with the administration senators.my helpers and I were all
rooting and praying for them and vowed to back them up all coming years, but n
ow our hearts sunk with despair.we had high regards and respect for you two, ho
w could you have done what you did. never mind estrada, it was expected because
he is under the thumb of enrile. Iam old enough to be your lola.
First anf foremost, I would like to congratulate Senator Manny Villar Jr. for w
inning the fourth slot in the recent senatorial race. I just hope he would acco
mplish what he had promised during his campaign. I am one of the hundred of OFW
's who purchased a parcel of land and a house at Tierra Nevada Phase 5, located
in General Trias, Cavite. I understand, Sen. Villar is the owner of this subdi
vision. I hope through this blog, my message will reach him, that this housing
project have a lot of defficiences to be corrected, particularly the lots near
the creek, where mine is being stood. Sana bigyan pansin naman ito ni Senator,
nang hindi masayang ang in-invest namin dito. Thanks and more power to him.
You are right 'Pinoy' I also hope that Trillanes won't give up
if you look at the history of Philippine politics, there is much evidence to pr
ove senators and other politicians are pretty much only concerned about their o
wn interests (above everything else). what the public sees as pro- or anti- is
just political posturing designed to project an image. the so-called opposition
campaigned on a shallow hate-Gloria posturing, which an unthinking public boug
ht hook, line and sinker. all these show that we have a long, long way to go be
fore we can really chart of our political fortunes. in the meantime, the hucks
ter politicians dominate the game and the wise citizen does not rely on them fo
r any substantial positive action or change. the wise citizen should not even
be entertained or distracted by the political sideshows, because that only wast
es time on buffoons.
i'm aware of what's happening in our beloved country even i'm a thousand miles
away.our country is leaning towards destruction due to these crocodiles who's m
ishandling our country right now.(government officials) how i wish, our country
is governed by honest and God fearing individuals so our nation and economy ca
n move forward. in this sense, every filipino will have to stay instead of le
aving the country to look for a greener pasture.
I WONDER WHAT PEOPLE LIKE YOU EXPECT FROM A RENEGADE LIKE TRILLANES, FROM BEING
OPPOSITIONISTS RATHER THAN SENATORS. NO WONDER OUR COUNTRY IS GOING NOWHERE.
PURO NA LANG OPPOSE NG OPPOSE MAKA-OPPOSE LANG!KAYA PARE-PAREHO TAYONG WALA SA
PINAS NGAYON!
I still can't read into Escudero's actions but I am a little bit disappointed.
I was so full of hope for this person. For a while there I was telling friends
I think we might finally have someone believable. I hope he will not be a victi
m of his own ambition.
Maka admistration or oposisyon man basta sa i
over the fence, Baka mayroon silang plano to solve the problem the Pinoy feel
ing now. Just wait and see.
Don't forget Pinoy will always a Pinoy wwhat ever shake or turning around. Ther
e's always an ACE card hidden on their pocket.
The comments most of you have posted here are laughable!!! I commend whatever C
ayetano and Escudero have done (switched to admin) because it just means to say
that they have an open mind if they see good in something. Unlike most of you
who are closed minded about the current administration! I say SHAME ON YOU ALL!
!! Give this administration a chance. We have already enjoyed decades of "freed
om" and so far where has it led us to - further detioration of our economy and
our lives! Bottomline, what we need is discipline, something that has been lack
ing for the past decades after Marcos. Puro kayo reklamo, puro kayo batikos, wa
la naman kayo ginagawa! Anjan kayo, wherever you maybe, where its comfortable.
I say all of you just stop complaining especially if you are not paying taxes a
nd/or are pledging your allegiance to a different flag!!!

I agree on this one. Filipinos really have the mentality to blame rather than b
e part of the solution. To voice out what they think is wrong rather than coope
rate. To voice out what they think is not good(laws) when they have not read an
d understand it fully. Another factor is that the church is likely backing the
leftist. We now have a militant church rather than preaching what is good.
The issue is just who are they going to support for senate presidency. I don't
think it automatically follows that if they vote for Villar, they are already
pro-adiministration. Let us wait until we see how they stand on various issues
. Between Villar and Pimentel, I really think Villar will be a better senate pr
esident. Not that Nene will do nothing good. But I think Villar have the abil
ity to make the senate as a "reasonable" independent senate. The kind of senat
e who would not just oppose everything that Malacañang would like to do...incl
uding those things that really make sense for the welfare of the people.
What can we expect from the opposition? Gone are the days when opposition is de
fined by the likes of Pepe Diokno, Wigberto Tañada and even Benigno Aquino. Re
spect for the opposition during those days are absolute and irrevocable. Unlike
the opposition of today. Just shout Gloria resign and you are automatically an
opposition. Good thing hell is a big place, all the so called opposition can d
efinitely fit in (administration personalities will definitely be there also).
i thought "trapos" are the worst in philippine politics, welcome back the "huny
ango's". akala ko means GO means genuine opposition, unti unting nagiging "Genu
ine opportu....sorry sa totoong GO sana wag kayong mahahawa...
you guys sound so naive... it's as if you were born today. my advice is to buck
le down to work. "ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do
for your country" ---- wake up guy!
Dear Pres. GMA,
Glad to send my 2 cnts worth of perception on how the U.S.A. remains a stron
g ecnomy. Consider the ff: 1.America has developed "very deep pockets" to fund
vital needs of a superior and attrative economy supplying superabundant indige
nous local currency to fund all social, economic, productive sectors. This may
be inflationary but it is a positive kind of inflation that will create plenty
of jobs and wealth, make everyone busy and trgger massive econ. development an
d growth. As a sovereign nation, we have every right and authority to determin
e our developmental needs without consulting our foreign ceditors. There are a
1,001 wealth creating, productive activities that can be funded by our own curr
ency alone. More productve activity will make the peso stronger and a stronger
peso can prouce more growth activties. ALEX G. RODRIGUEZ at Las Vegas. 1-702-38
8-4026.
What stupidity! Manny Villar won as an opposition last May election and if he w
ins the Senate Presidency against Nene Pimentel, then the majority and minority
will be both from the opposition. This is a well laid trap of the opposition t
o capture all the seats in the various senate committees to the detriment of th
e check and balance in the senate. This is similar to the JDV vs Garcia duel (k
uno) for the speakership in the House. If they can do it in the House, why not
also in the Senate. Tit for tat.
Cayetano, Escudero and Company - PRINCIPLED POLITICIANS?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAH
Wake up People! These people are all the same. They only have one Motive in min
d, their OWN pesonal motive.
hahahahahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
My take on these three senators who jumped-ship to the administration side...Fi
rst, the money aspect. As opposition, their pork-barrel "projects" would not be
funded. The administration still controls the flow of money- whether real or b
ogus projects/programs. Even the smallest project will be monitored like a hawk
to make sure corruption and red tape is "curtailed". The slightest mistake the
se "opposition" folks does will be detrimental and will posted all over the med
ia, and they can forget about re-election. Only administration people can get a
way with this.
Secondly, opposition has to worry about the future state of the country an
d how to combat problems as promised during campaign; how to direct the nation
to be competitive in the world market. They will going to face an uphill battle
in the Senate, legislative-wise. Converting to the adminstration side will poi
nt all existing and looming problems to Arroyo and her admninistration's inabil
ity to "solve" problems. Again, our people will be left behind.
Lastly (really, plenty more...), the money aspect of politics. The more mo
ney a politician has, the surest way to get (re)elected. As administration sena
tor: by doing less, you'll get more. Besides the funding of their favorite bogu
s projects, they have access to all kinds of resources to start early a politic
al machinery. By election time, poor people will not going to bother checking t
heir performance, but rather how much dough he/she received from these unprinci
pled politicians.
Trillanes is a different case. As a UP grad, I hope that principles were in
grained in his head- not like those other "iskolar ng bayan"-turn-politician th
at we all know. Early reports though had a different spin on Trillanes' persona
l behavior. Only time will tell...Pampanga and Eastern Samar governors are two
separate cases that needs closer look. A priest and a retired US sailor. Would
these two be a model politicians? Again, time will tell...
ingrates? NO, its just that our newly elected senators (GO) discovered "reality
" ,that after all that has been said during the campaign which were mostly for"
public consumption" personal ambitions, interests comes first. An opposition dom
inated senate is impotent when there is a pro-admin congress. The Senate or sena
tors should clean up their acts to show to the Filipino people that they are no
t wasting peoples taxes to never ending investigations for political gains but
rather pass laws necessary in nation building or else they will be perceived
as useless/irrelevant and expensive that might lead to their demise. A parliame
ntary system might be in the horizon.
I used to be confused growing up trying hard to understand why our country is b
eing run like crazy. Then one day my dad told me this so called great speach o
f President Quezon (I may be wrong if it's him or not) "I'd rather see a Philip
pines run like hell by Filipinos, rather than be run like heaven by Americans".
Quite enlightening eh? But shouldnt it be time to prove that former president
wrong? That FILIPINOS CAN RUN THE COUNTRY LIKE HEAVEN FOR FILIPINOS, just won
dering. Juan de la cruz has to wake up, if not now when? The people who voted
for these senatiors who turncoated should make them feel how they have betraye
d them by writting them and informing them that they are pulling their confiden
ce and support for them, especially in the next ellection. The people do have
the power, just dont know it or just dont care anymore (the latter is very sad)
.
You are right Danilo, these politicians just think of their own vested interest
. The people who voted for them won't forget their true colors, wait till the n
ext election and they will suffer the ire of the people. They are shameless ing
rates.
