If the dreaded Gringo is innocent to all the coups that he had done, why not Trillanes? Gringo didn’t hesitate to kill civilians, politicians and soldiers had he not been stopped by the war jets of the US.
So if Honasan is free, then I don’t see any reason why Trillanes would be in prison any minute.

Soldiers rise above self for they give up their lives for their country and people. They are a unique and brave lot.

The mutiny in Oakwood could have been averted in another legal forum to address the grave problems of the AFP. You gave the president an ultimatum and when nothing comes up to your liking, you destroy property, and disturb peace, and shake the economy and country. Much likened to a terrorist?

Fortunately, I never voted for Trillanes. A soldier’s oath is to defend his country at all times. A soldier who breaks the same law that protects us the people from unnecessary disequilibrium has no place in the senate.

Which brings us to Trillanes’ May Poll victory. Filipinos love the underdogs. It was like soap opera fulfilled to reality.

Now we have a mutiny senator who will pass laws to legislation. Isn’t that an irony and a great bitter pill to those who voted for him?

Trillanes election to the Philippine Senate is non phenomenal, given the immature Filipino voter’s penchant of electing undesirable officials to different position in the country. People should realised that mocking our democratic processes only poised further political instabilty and economic hardships. The Senate is filled with non performing members, If not actors there’s coup plotters and law breakers become lawmakers. The House boasts members of political dynasties whose elections uphold their family’s grip in power..
Trillanes election as Senator is in no way washed him his conviction to overthrow the government and it should never mean that a criminal can run for office for pretext that a mandate is an acquittal of his crime. It will be good for the country If he stay in prison.

i strongly agree with arpee lazaro of makati city regarding his views on trillanes. it seems that he didn’t think at all of the would be and had been consequences of what they did when they took over Oakwood Hotel, i would say that self-interest motivated him to lead that mutiny.

though he was supported by some of his colleagues in the military, and then was voted and elected as senator by millions of filipinos, it does not necessarily mean that majority in the military and of the filipino people have the same views and conviction as trillanes though in a way or another i agree with him in few points.

had trillanes shown a true color of nationality and real concern for the country, majority of the filipino people had supported and backed him up in the failed mutiny. just consider what happened with marcos and erap, they were judged by history, same with trillanes, i believe that’s why his request and petition were not granted because it’s the majority that supports and is represented by the court.

I honestly think that both honasan and trillanes should be in jail! It’s just unfortunate that honasan is free right now (for whatever reason hindi ko alam)…and yeah that’s how Filipinos vote for their leaders!!! In case you haven’t noticed they based it on popularity since time immemorial!!!

Unlike Honasan,Trillanes wants to show self-righteousness and discipline by not capitulating to the political whims of the administration. Learning from the lessons of his past coup attempts, Honasan knows it is politically expedient to play ball when his back is against the wall. Honasan is smart, a survivor, who lays down his arms to fight another day. Thus, he keeps coming back to bring more coups.

Trillanes can take a leaf from his mentor if he wants to get out from his Fort Bonifacio cell to join his mates in the Senate. But, then he must play ball with the administration which obviously he will refuse for fear of losing face. And he may be quite right choosing to remain in his cell rather than lose his integrity if he joins his comrades in the Senate. Honasan on the other hand is not bothered by it. After all, either place is run by the old maxim: there is no honor among thieves anyway.

If fighting for what I know is right for our motherland instead of dealing with the real criminals of our country, then I’d rather stay in jail rather than dealing with those corrupt government officials in exchange of some juicy positions. The reason why there are more military casualties in mindanao right now againsts those bandits is the fact that their ammunitions are more high-powered than that of an ordinary foot soldier who risked their for our country. Trillanes had been voted not by immature voters but by the majority of filipinos hungry for reforms in our corrupt country, we need his idealism in our quest for a highly improved economy…let us free Trillanes and jail those corrupt public officials!

trillanes must be ignored. the person is so immature and it clearly shows. just listen to him during interviews, hindi dapat patulan ito ng media. sen. migz is so right when he called trillanes ‘galit sa mundo’. i could only imagine the havoc he would create in the senate. it just shows how immature the philippine voters are - 11 million of them, so pitiful.

I hope and pray that Senator Trillanes stays true to his cause. I hope that he never abandons his crusade for clean and honest governance and against corruption. And I pray that his head (ego) never gets bloated with all the free publicity he’s getting these days. Come to think of it, a Senator Trillanes fullfilling his duties to his constituents behind bars is making him a presidential timber come 2010. Filipinos are suckers for underdogs. Take note that Trillanes is behind bars for so called coup but his magdalo group did raise valid issues. Let them keep Senator Trillanes in jail… because come 2010 he’ll be President Trillanes….

The election of both Trillanes & Honasan is a clear sequel to Filipinos’ thoughts of the existence of lala land as they see in the movies. Action stars that deflect bullets, come out unharmed and go on to save the world. However, Filipinos refuse to see that in real world these “action stars” do not save the world at the end. Yes, they are able to dodge bullets but at the end they just feed their egos and personal ambitions. The Honasans and Trillaneses will thrive because they know how to play the system and the Filipino thoughts.

Trillanes whether guilty or not has been elected by the people nevertheless in a national election. If he cannot serve his term, he should have been disqualified in the first place to run for the senate.

As far as his case is concerned no guilty verdict has been handed down by the courts yet, so he should be presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

It looks like this case shows that the rule of law is not upheld in the Philippines. Instead it is the rule of the politicians that prevails.

I admire Trillanes courage to rise up against for what he believes in. But this courage was put to used perhaps for a right reason but in a wrong place and at a wrong time. If he believes, as we all do, that we are a nation of laws, then he should face off what he is accused right now. I sure he was aware of the consequences before he put into action the mutiny he was leading. And he thought that by running for the senate seat and win, which he has, is the only way out, then he should know that he has made a wrong turn in history because we as a nation still believes that we are a nation of laws and the very laws that we believe helps protect our way of life! Jail is where his life is right now because he has to pay for the consequencies of his action as our laws dictates no one is above from it.

Why Honasan way given freedom for his involvement in the Oakwood mutiny? Because there is no case against him actually. The supposed accusation that he masterminded the OAKwood mutiny does not stand a chance in court! Unlike Trillianes, he was blazing his guns all over the papers for the world to see…perhaps telling us all that ” this is me and i will fight for what i believe. ” The evidence is clear and the motive is widely known.

Trillanes is a soldier who fights for what he believes.He believes that some government officials are in cohorts with rebel muslims supplying them with armories that are supposed to be given to our brave soldier.Wake up people and smell the grass. We have the most corrupt government in the Eastern hemisphere.This kind of accusations can be substantiated given the proper place and time but since we are under a tyrant i dont see that happening.And Trillanes knows that.he has more right to be in the Senate than a President who rigged votes to her favor.

Well it’s plain and simple, in the eyes of every Filipino who voted him or not he is Not Innocent.

May I ask who is Innocent anyway?

I am not a Trillanes fan, or even look at him as a modern day hero, because for me, he is the same as the rest of politicians who took prey on opportunities knocking at their doorstep and grab it heidously.

But as i see the difference between Trillanes and Honasan, It’s seems Trillanes stood by his campaign battlecry which is to unseat the present administration regardless he is inside the prison or inside the Senate Chamber.

And that’s the very reason why this administration would not let him out or even give him a glimpse of hope of getting out of jail.

This i tell you, Should Trillanes shifted his principles and give praise to his Chief Executive, wether or not he is innocent… He will find himself freed and seated with his mates in the Senate…

Blame it on the Masa. They remain in the quagmire of stagnant growth because they keep on looking for the saviour who will pluck them out of poverty. They will vote anybody who they think can do this job. It can be an actor, a mutineer or a clown. Instead of helping themselves they blame everything on the govenment and expect officials to perform miracles for them and change their lives without them doing a single contribution. Philippine politics and the immature voters are a joke.

Thanks Arpee for starting this blog. It pains me to see Trillanes get elected to the senate even after his nonsensical answers to questions regarding pork barrel in interviews before th elections. And yet, people claim the electorate has matured.
Ang nakikita natin ngayon ay para siyang sira na nagpapapansin, lalo na pagkatapos na ambush sa basilan. Parang gusto lang siyang mapag usapan.

I believe the 11+ million filipinos spoke when they voted for trillanes. they need someone to be strong enough to go against or talk against the ills of the philippine government which they also believe exist. do you mean these 11 million filipinos have no brains? in fairness to those who voted for Trillanes, they belong to the intelligent sector of the society. it’s not popularity dear colleagues, he has no money to pay for advertisements, media coverages. it just so happened that what he is saying is right. corrupt politicians pay to win, and that’s democracy at work, the people have the right to choose who they want. why not talk against those politicians who cheated to win? I cannot comprehend why those respected people who have rewritten the constitution allowed somebody in jail or a lawbreaker to run for office, be given chairmanship position to legislate in the senate or in any gov’t offices. Would you trust lawbreakers to craft laws? When in fact cannot simply be an abiding citizen. What a laugh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trillanes should stay in jail.

Philippine laws should be reviewed. Whatever clause/s there may be that allows incarcerated individuals to run for public office should be taken out, even if that particular individual has not been charged in court of his crimes yet. This is the only way of avoiding a repeat of something like this. Everyone has the right to be given the benefit of the doubt but there are 2 sides of it; “what if the person is innocent”, he could potentially be a very good public official when elected but “what if he is guilty”, we elected a criminal in one of the highest posts in the land. OK fine if they are found innocent, then they can run for office but not while in jail awaiting trial.

All judicial geniuses of the administration, if there are any, should bang their heads together & find something in our present laws that can strip Trillanes of his elected post. We do not need another Lacson in the senate who is similarly arrogant, ruthless & power hungry.

Asinine leaders came from asinine voters. Why do we, time and time again, vote those who we know will prevent or prolonge the country’s development? Isn’t obviuos enough that the people who are in the positions right now are the same people who are either directly or indirectly cause the poisoning of our nation?

Unfortunately, it is based on false information and/or assumptions.

The fact is that Trillanes did not hold the employees of the Oakwood hotel hostage. In fact, the the soldiers asked the employees of the hotel as well as the guests (which included Australian Ambasaador Ruth Pierce) to evacuate at first light.

We may not agree with what Trillanes and the Magdalo did at Oakwood but I admire them because they stood up for what they believed in and faced the consequences of their acts.

I also admired the way they conducted themselves… acting as officers and gentlemen under the circumstances and even paying for the rooms they occupied and the food they took from the supermarket. At least they displayed honesty and integrity… even when nobody was looking … to the very end. I only wish we can find these same qualiities among our incumbent public servants.

As regards Trillanes’ election as Senator, the people have spoken and I believe we should respect their verdict. That is how it is in a democracy.

To keep saying that Trillanes should not have won is like saying that one’s opinion is better than the rest of the electorate.

All i can say is that everyone deserves a trip in court , a fair trial. Trillanes is not yet proven guilty in the court of law. Ang ginawa nya ay may dahilan, we have a soverign country, some of our law conflicts to each other. Kung ang dahilan ng ginawa nya ay para sa kabutihan ng karamihan, I think what he did was protected by a moral law military or civilian law.

beheading of our soldiers in Mindanao and Biazon as his spokeman in the Senate and trying to blow-up the issue and telling that Trillanes is required to be in the Senate to depend his allegation. Anong klaseng paguutak mayroon sila at mga naturingan pa naman mga Leaders & Officials of the AFP. Dapat magsama sila sa Kulungan.

Trillanes has convictions and principles and was never intent in killing but only wanted to have his message heard. Honasan was intent on killing innocent lives just to grab power for himself. Honasan executed by lethal injection as he destroyed our economy. I know, I lost my job because of him. He killed the future of millions of filipino families.

Speaking of responsibiity, I guess our leaders should be the first to show it to us Filipinos. Its their responsibility to uplift us from where we are now, as a whole. I mean the poverty our country is experiencing. Voter’s comprises of educated and less educated. So we can expect that their choice during election ba based on so many attributes. But our people in the national government are well educated to do their duties. So no excuse they can never do the right thing to improve our economy.

That majority of our voters elect dubious, egotistical, selfish, and incompetent personalities to a legislative post is beyond comprehension and has been causing me endless frustration. These non-thinking voters who are likely to come from the “masses” are the ones who decide for my future based on their unintelligible decisions in exercise of suffrage, and this observation incenses me. How and when will this ever end? I have come to dread elections although they are the bastion of democracy. This is why I am for a parliamentary system. I long for the day when elected officials are not in their posts because they are good looking, popular, they talk too much and do less, they have media mileage, they belong to a political dynasty, etc. We need people who would give dignity to public service because “public service is a public trust”. With the line up of new senators now, I yet have to find one who would have the principles and ideals that would enable him/her to rise above his/her personal interest and make “genuine service” to the people a code to live by.

I take trillanes to be my senator over the rest of the crocodiles in the senate any day. this fellow is a true patriot, never seen anybody this dedicated in my life. Why is it that we have so few of his kind? lintik!

I have friends in the Military and they have shown how arrogant trillanes became when he was elected Senator. His true color has finally showed up. His statements in the media particularly against POll Cheaters , how stupid can he be, almost all politicians sort to this method ,even his partymates. He just wants to make a story against the administration. Im not pro admin neither because they are all the same when i comes to politics

Mr. Arpee Lazaro underestimated those more than 11 millions who voted for Senator Trillanes. He sounds like his neigbors and stupid businessmen who are only concern of themselves and more of their wealth.

I see in Senator Trillanes the qualities of a good Philippine Leader. He must be acquitted of those charges, we need him now!!!

Honasan and Trillianes are on the same level in the military.They couldn’t help but take advantage of this gullibility in our voters. The opportunity was too tempting to resist. You have to admire their “pulso” of the dumbed-down “masa” who believes anything they say. That is the secret of their success.

The administration wants to concentrate on the “guilt” of Trillanes instead of his legitimacy as an elected Senator.

The executive want to concentrate on the guilt of Trillanes while their abusive members and allies go scot-free. They think that their own guilt will go unnoticed. They are wrong.

Trillanes was the ultimate underdog. He wasn’t able to campaign as they insisted that he stay in jail, he had little campaign money, the administration-COMELEC cahoots cheated as evident especially in Mindanao; despite this Trillanes WON.

Against all odds Trillanes won. And now the Gloria administration and their allies wants to take that away from him because they are afraid of Trillanes as he pursues the ANOMALIES in government and he wouldn’t suck to Gloria like others who now enjoy privileges despite crimes committed.

Trillanes graduated from the PMA courtesy of the taxpayers. He swore to serve the country faithfully and protect the Constitution. What he did at Oakwood was an act of betrayal. He pulled a coup to topple a constitutional government, a treasonous act which in time of war would have meted him a verdict of death.

True, 11 million people voted for him, but that do not signify majority of Filipinos wanted him as senator. Look at it this way. There are 34 million out of 45 million registered voters that did not vote for him. In a democracy, the principle of majority rules apply. Therefore, 11 million do not represent the majority.

Trillanes has committed a crime and must face the consequences of his action. It is irrelevant and immaterial that 11 million voted for him as 36 million did not. Justice must be served first before what people demand. Giving him special privileges not allowed by law just because people voted for him violates the law. Everybody is invoking the rule of law, then by all means apply it without consideration for whoever, whatsoever, the person is. Let him clear his name first before he is allowed to serve in the senate.

trillanes? right from the start he entered the public drama he acted as he is - a freak dreamer. and those who voted for him are likewise freaks and dreamers. guts? guts without wisdom is nuts! hey wake up you nuts!

My comment:

In a democracy, it does not matter who the people elect as their leaders. The important thing is, the people get to choose who will be their leaders. ‘Tis better to suffer in self-imposed misery than that imposed by other people!

Democracy does not bestow upon self-proclaimed geniuses like you the exclusive right to choose who will be our leaders. That is why elections are supposed to be a great equalizer, where the poor and the rich alike get to exercise equal rights to vote!

My answer:

I am not a self-proclaimed genius but I am sure you are a believer of Manuel L. Quezon’s opinion that goes, “I’d prefer for the Philippines to be run like hell by Filipinos than like heaven by Americans!” He got his wish and you should be glad because it’s already happening in our country.

You take your “self-imposed misery” act too seriously because you don’t care at all who gets elected or as to whether or not our country is “going to the dogs”, because that’s precisely how democracy works anyway.

What does that make you then? A responsible and proud Filipino?

All of us have the power to make positive changes in our lives and that includes politics. Forums like this is a good start. If we don’t use that power, we also deny ourselves and our children a chance for a better future.
