Until the “Hello Garci” controversy is resolved via the impeachment process, the effort to ferret out the truth must continue. In truth, it is the administration politicians who are constraining the opposition to ventilate the issue outside its rightful place by moving heaven and earth to prevent the impeachment process.

I salute Senator Panfilo Lacson for his tireless crusade to carry the torch for the citizens of this country who are clamoring for a proper closure to the said controversy.

Is Ping Lacson a Senator in the real sense of the word? He doesn’t deserve it in the first place but he got voted for Senator due to the political machinery of the opposition party. He first thought of running for Mayor in Manila but he knew he will not win so he make amend with Estrade to ride on his opposition ticket. Why he didn’t run as Independent like Honasan to test his credibility and charm if he has those! I don’t think he will even surpass the votes garnered by Cesar Montano.
Ping Lacson should reflect and revisit his past to see his real of him. What he is doing now in the Senate shows his real color and he will do the same once he becomes President. But, surely he will not become President not only because of the votes he will get but because of his being. Everyone should tell him to perform his supporting role as Senator. We should not allow him to wreak havoc of the Philippine economy and the country as a whole.

If Ping Lacson is really an opposition at heart, he should have set aside his personal ambitions during the 2004 Presidential elections. But he did not. As a consequence, the opposition votes were divided between him and FPJ and this allowed GMA to surface as the winner with 1M votes over FPJ ( with the help of GARCI, as attested to by the HELLO GARCI tapes).

This clearly shows his personal priorities, nothing but his own personal agenda instead of the common good of the party or the opposition. How can we rely on such a person who when he has to make a choice between what is good for the people and his personal ambitions, the answer is pretty much obvious?

I am not for Sen. Lacson. As far as I am concerned he is no better than GMA. He has to answer the accusations against him that he was responsible for Kuratong Baleleng, engaging in espionage and graft and corruption. But GMA needs to answer for the ‘hello garci’ scandal. I would recommend that the Senator Lacosn. I guess this is diversionary tactic as he has have pending investigation in relation to his aides conviction in the US.

How can Military Adventurism be stopped ?

In the 90’s a certain Col. Gregorio Honasan led several coups. The last one cost billions of dollars worth of lost foreign investments and job opportunities that would have come along with it. On top of that, about 100 Filipinos lost their lives. (In the failed coup of Feb., 2006, we learned from the AFP Chief of Staff that the last Honasan 90’s coup, a loyalist soldier shot dead his sibling/soldier who was on the mutineers’ side during the firefight between the two groups.).

Navy Lt. Antonio Trillianes III, among other junior officers staged a coup in Makati’ Oakwood complex in 2003. They may not have taken hostages but they rigged the building with explosives. Any miscalculation by the government forces or the coup plotters, could have resulted in lost of lives, limbs, and destruction of property.

What Honasan and Trillianes did were clearly TREASONOUS.

One only need to ask one question. What if they succeeded in bringing the government down? The answer would be simple : The Philippines would have been under a Military Junta. . .Good thing those coups failed. The kababayans would have been in worse situation. They are smart in not supporting the coups as hoped for by the plotters. Juntas are more repressive. They are akin to the abusive Martial Law. The Central American Juntas were clear examples of their undesirability. Nothing good would have come from Juntas.

Now, a former General in the person of Ping Lacson is stirring the pot by making rounds in a military camp. This under the guise of visiting detained officers associated with coups. He pulled rank over the non commissioned officers/guards. He timed his visit so a commissioned officer or the commanding officer of the camp was not present and would disallow the visit - as this was not cleared by the chain of command.

How can coups be stopped? We should have the will to prosecute agressively Trillianes, et al. Hopefully, government prosecutors will do their BEST in obtaining a conviction.

A Convicted & Jailed Trillianes, et al, I think will be a deterrent for future military adventurism.

Let us stop this business of amnesty for mutineers or coup plotters.

P.S. What was IRONIC in Honasan’s last failed coup, the families of the detained mutineering soldiers went to the person they were to assasinate - Pres. Cory Aquino. They sought assistance from the President, as they needed food, shelter and clothing, while their husbands are in the brig. . .Honasan left them high & dry. . .Had they succeeded, Honasan may have promised them 2 or 3-rank promotions plus bonuses. . .(These came from news articles and opinions we read in various Philippine news circulated here in the U.S. during those period.)

What is wrong with getting into the truth? What is wrong with pursuing justice? We despise Senator Lacson for doing what is right. What is wrong with us people? If these people in Congress were honestly in search for truth, they should not have stopped all evidences that were presented when the issue of cheating during the election surfaced. There are two possible truths: (1) Gloria did not cheat and (2) Gloria cheated. Where would all the evidences lead us to? The problem is the investigation has not even started and all the KaKAMPIs in Congress have done everything possible for the truth to surface. They are denying us justice. How can we trust Congress in implementing justice, fairness in action? How can we leave our fate as a Filipino nation to this group of shameless people? Why are we not angry? Why do we just allow them do this injustice to us?

Why are we prosecuting Lacson and others who only want to pursue the truth? He was not the one who cheated in the election!

i’m not an avid lacson supporter but i believe that what he did was right….. we must put closure to what happened during the 2004 election…. the filipinos particularly us who are here in the philippines are entitled to know the truth…..we cannot forever be in the dark and not know whether the person running us is a fake as fake can be…..only the truth will set us free.

i stand in the middle. i support any quest for truth but not for political gains and publicity. the opposition has to do better than that and have more credible witnesses

Correct ka diyan, Mannybadingerzy! If Lacson was indeed guilty of any wrongdoings, it would have come out a long time ago with Corpuz on his neck and with the criminal Berroya after his credibility. All we have to do is to look at the track record of all these people accusing Lacson. Why do they hate him so much? Because he is the only one who has the guts.

I remember a funny story from “Shaman of Malilipot” which would provide a good analogy for the predicament of Gloria, the Filipino people and the Garci tape:

Nasilip ng driver si misis at ang kanyang boyfriend sa bedroom making love. Kinunan ng picture.

Binigay ng driver ang picture sa husband who confronted the wife.

On the contrary elmer, the Filipinos are not tired of the issue and more telling than that is that unresolved covered-up issues must never be forgotten until resolved.

I remembered the time when some blogger said a similar thing when Gloria declared her intent not to run in the last 2004 elections:
“GMA has only a year or more to go. Pls., why can’t you just wait for 2004?”

Now it’s 2007 and a surge of anomalies perpetuated just to remain in power. Not to forget; the attempted Charter Change with the aim to remove the term limits of elected officials.

can we just let arroyo serve her last 3yrs. i dont think anyone would give a crap if they decide to investigate her after her term. it would be very destructive as far as continuity of governement is concerned. general ramos could have taken the presidency after marcos but he didnt. he left it to corazon aquino to reconcile the country. for anyone to try to unseat arroyo right now will destroy this volatile country of ours.

What the nation needs right now is a person of stong convictions, principles and determination to get rid of graft and corruption. if arroya does not step down then another people power is fully JUSTIFIED. we will have the backing of the whole world. i would not fill ashamed then. i left for canada in dec of ‘85. i was 20yrs old then. i watched on tv here how ramos and enrile dealt with marcos. corazon aquino was not much of a president. but ramos and the whole nation understood what it means to have ninoy aquino’s widow leading the nation on national reconciliation. i was a very proud filipino taking comforts in general ramos fending off all these coups against aquino. as long as the president does is not plundering the country we should let them serve their term. we are a very smart people and hardworkers. very resilient. if we stand united against all these idiots that think their shit dont stink we will gain the respect the we deserve which is long overdue.

i just want to add one more thing. i dont think it will matter how good we do with respect to the economy as long as there is no credible family planning in place. without a credible family planning in place there wont be enough to feed our people. keep the church out of our national affairs. like a greek friend of mine said that if all the greeks goes back to their country there wont be enough water for everyone.

The attempts for power extension will just be a smattering for now but as their attempts get foiled they will mount an aggressive campaign around 2009 to 2010 to try to twist the law again for extended stay in power.

Vigilance will constantly be needed.

Nevertheless the injustice of the past and present must not be set aside and search for truth and justice for this must remain relentless.

they had their chance to unseat arroyo in 2005. it did not happen. bringing this back now just shows how immature we are when it comes to politics. foreign investors will pull out and who do you think will pay. the filipino people will suffer more. foreign investors are already complaining about the high cost of electricity. also foreigners are talking about how inadequate the deposit insurance are with banks. they are scared. political uncertainty is not good for the country. like it or not we need these investors.

We must not only look everything in the point of view of foreign investments. We should be aware of what are the abuses, corruption and injustices that is happening now rather than act only years down the road while they design ways for mangling the constitution and extending their terms of stay by destroying the spirit of the law.

Don’t care much of Gloria myself but it is her actions and the actions of her allies that riles up the Filipino people against her administration. Defending corrupt allies is one of her major and critical failings. Another is her wielding of Executive Orders similarly as the dictator Marcos wielded his Presidential Decrees.

Moreover, foreign investments is not directly tied to Arroyo’s regime nor should foreign investment be the overriding concern of Filipinos while democracy is being destroyed and corrupt practices in government being protected and even proliferated. The list grows long and their most recent shenanigan in protection of Abalos in the ZTE deal. It is obvious that a lot of those on top positions had a finger on this corruption pie.

You guys, got it all wrong. The problem is not Lacson! Our problem is not getting the truth and a lot of people in Congress blocking the truth. Jut let all the evidences out and people would know somehow who is lying.
