Reader wants SK abolished

THE SK [Sangguniang Kabataan] should be abolished. If the idea is to train the youth to be leaders, a law should be passed to strengthen instead the schools’ student councils. This way the students will be able to apply their learning and skills among their peers.

Barangay polls must proceed — this is the only means to change errant barangay leaders. We need to change most of these barangay officials knowing how ineffective they are in governing and administering to the needs of their constituents.

We should not be again experiencing their inadequacies [in] tend[ing] to our needs. All we can see are barangay halls that have never given any good administration to the citizenry.

the sk is the breeding ground of future corrupt leaders. in order to become sk chairman in an area the sk candidate pays hundreds of pesos to buy votes in their favor. just like their more senior counterparts

But then again, the local community is sometimes separate from the ones at school. You have a point in strengthening the student councils since this can encourage the students to exercise their leadership skills within the school grounds (and sometimes outside). However, some issues set in a particular locale are outside the school; it is best to encourage the youth within this locality to participate as they are the ones being directly affected. Maybe the real deal is to ensure that SKs are still effective in serving their purpose, not just for the heck of it. It’s time that the youth becomes proactive and empowered especially in terms of local and national issues.

i am in favor of abolishment of the sk, since it is just a ground for our young citizen eying for future corrupt officials as we saw in the past. the motive does’nt serve the true intention but the rather being used by corrupt local officials. we are just spending millions of pesos for nothing i should say. all we can do is, there sholuld be a committe in the barangay council for the welfare of the youths represented by religious sectors.they are not the future leaders as they say but, future corrupt politicians as they trained.so, october poll must proceed and never be stopped by some selfished congressmen and Barangay leaders!!!wag kayong pasaway!!!just imagine if they pushe for 2009 poll??? they surpassing the president’s term of office , 7 years???

SK is just another venue for political families to perpetuate themselves, to learn the tricks of politicking (and not so much on governing and serving the constituents) and to milk the country’s coffers dry. Where alse can you see a barangay captain has his son or daughter serve as SK chairman?

i am an SK Chairman at present but honestly i am disppointed with the “existence” of SK. we are not deserving for the funds alloted for us (projects). why not just think of other way that could lift up the quality of our living? we are young but at this young we start to be corrupt.

the purpose of teaching our young people to become good leaders in the future is good. But what kind of leaders do we have now a days? How can we teach young people to be a good leaders in the future when the teachers/leaders that are nurturing, leading and teaching them are crooked or bad leaders? What kind of leaders are we going to produce in the future when during their younger age they were pampered and showered with all the antics and dirty play of our leaders. KUNG ANONG MALING NAKIKITA NG BATA SA MATATANDA NAGIGING TAMA SA MATA NG BATA, So, i say that the better place to start a generation to create leaders away from dirty politicians is in schools. the govt should make a way to separate this young people away from the dirty politics in our country.

the elections of sk’s in a locality should push through coz, some of the incumbent are not really chosen by the voters, it is their parents who are currently brgy chairman of their respective barangays were the roots thats why their respective son or daughter were sk chairmans. there are many residents who are aspiring to become as sk chairman but they were not given a time because their powerful brgy chairman are the one’s who manuever the candidacy of their child (son/or daughter) sa madalit salita mandaraya. walang gustong lumaban dahil anak ng kapitan/kapitana. sa totoo lang sumusweldo lang na walang ginangawa ang mga sk sa brgy walang silbi sila. ubos lang ang pera ng gobyerno ng dahil dito sa sk chairman na ito.

Sheenah

how about the out-of-school youth? shouldn’t the have equal chances to lead? the idea of strengthening the student councils is great, but then SC does not cover those who are not in school.

I agree, sometimes SK does not serve its purpose anymore.Even in election process alone it is influenced by local government officials for their own interests. The youth are also exposed to rotten reality of our election system especially vote buying. Why not sthrenghten the program of civic youth organizations without undergoing election process.

mcjay

linda

I agree that sk candidates before they get elected, parents(not in general) lure their child to take the voters or friends to a special treats or to a resort and stay overnight in exchange for their votes. I have known it already happened so these children have already been taught corruption at an early age, especially when parents are politicians or well off. Sk officials are not needed its just a waste of money, money that could be put to good use to the real needy

Don’t abolished the SK coz this is were they learn the trick to be a millionaire. I was once an SK in Mindanao and I have learn on how to claim the itinerary even without spending any single cents from Barangay to Barangay. I have done so many projects and manage to claim double on what I spend.

Anyway, Philippines is nothing without graft and corruption. Goodluck Pinoy!!

SK SHOULD BE ABOLISHED!…Wala rin namang ginagawa pag nasa posisyon na..nasasayang lamang ang pera ng taumbayan, sumusweldo di naman nagtatrabaho…tumingin kayo sa mga bara barangay at kung may makikita kayong mga projects ng SK na pwedeng ipagmalaki…ano yung basketball league every summer time?…it’s crazy!…

Yes i believe that it’s about time to abolish sk for it’s becoming a training ground for future corrupt public officials.

I still believe that the SK serves a particular purpose. My only concern is whether the young people that comprise the SK understand that purpose well and that they are really empowered to push their agenda in that whole political structure. Maybe it is about time for the government to come up with a study on how the SK has been an effective or ineffective mechanism for youth participation in local governance. Its ineffectiveness should not be a reason for it to be abolished but should justify ways to strengthen it further.

ofc

bernie in ESSEX UK

SK is just another waste of government money regular salary and bonuses for doing nothing what a good life, got so many young local officials anyway they can represent the young generation (if they really do their job}

i am in favor of abolishing the SK since it do not serve the interests of the youths but rather their own personal gains.SK officials are just using the SK budget in nonsense projects as long as it will give them “wonderful” kickbacks.

SK - smalltown kurakot i do hope SK be abolished, c’mon! what can a 17 yr old really do in a community? i am not underestimating the youth but lets face it, at this age they are very vulnerable to corruption, they are just mere puppets of politicians, lets use the funds for SK elsewhere, like building more schools and books!

trap

I do not think we should condemn the SK for whatever imperfection it has right now. The government and NGOs have not really given the SK the attention that it fully deserves. These are future leaders and if government does not want to do anything to shape it up towards better Philippines future leadership, the NGOs and other members of Civil Society should give it their full attention.

don’t blame the SK for corruption in our government. You should be ashamed of yourselves. puro kayo reklamo. why are you hastily generalizing each and every member of SK. SK budget constitutes merely 10% of the Internal Revenue Allotment of every LGU.

Empower the youth. They are our future. The fact that you make them feel that they are corrupt will only instill the values you are blaming upon them.
Kayong matatanda ang sana’y magbago. The values that these youth leaders are molded upon your guidance. When they grow being corrupt didn’t you know that it is your failure. Your not being good mentors. You are only blaming these youth for the shortcomings of your generation.

And for our youth leaders don’t stop dreaming. Someday these narrow headed people will see you rise above the odds.
Mabuhay ang Kabataang Pilipino!!!!

What project are you talking about. I didn’t see any project in my barrio. The only project I’ve seen is the Barrio capt. Mayor, Car, House are the most visible in the entire town. Aside from that their children are studying here abroad. And thats the taxepayer’s money.

i was supposed to run for an SK post here in our barangay. but the daughter of a renowned politician in our province ran and i was advised not to contest. she was my schoolmate and i knew her since our formative years. she was recently “kicked-out” of our school because she was proven to be taking illegal drugs. sadly, she won in the elections and is now even vying for sk president. how sad.

and how funny. she even talked about vices, especially drugs and online gaming as the primary problem faced by the youth on TELEVISION!!..

politics in the philippines is sick.
really sick.
