By Inquirer CABANATUAN CITY--The practice of courting the endorsement of the Iglesia ni Cri sto, a religious organization known to practice bloc voting, is not the exclusi ve domain of candidates for national and local government positions. In the run up to the Oct. 29 synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK ) elections, some candidates for SK positions have started seeking the endorsem ent of local INC ministers to push their candidacies. Early start A candidate for SK chair in a northern Nueva Ecija city said she went to the of fice of the local INC minister to seek his help in her candidacy. She said her father, who knows the minister, accompanied her and together they asked for an endorsement of her candidacy to the young members of the group. The minister, she said, was non-committal and said he would study her request. The candidate, a senior high school student who declined to be identified to av oid accusations of early campaigning, said she knew that other candidates in th eir village, both for the SK and barangay council elections, have already appro ached the minister to seek his endorsement. Influence âI was told that the members of INC deliver solid votes. That was the reason wh y we approached the minister. His endorsement will be a big help for me since t here are many members of his group in our village,â the candidate said. In Isabela, the police have tightened security preparations for the barangay an d SK elections in at least 199 villages where communist rebels are known to be operating. Senior Supt. Dominador Aquino Jr., Isabela police director, said he has ordered an intensified monitoring of these villages to stop any violent incident in th e run up to the elections. âWe have to work on this matter because the police have been [one of the] prima ry forces against communist rebels,â he said. Aquino said the villages they are watching are in the towns of Benito Soliven, Echague, Jones, San Mariano and San Agustin. Here comes the election and here comes the business of endorsing candidates! Th
e most sought after endorsement has been that of the INC, but mind you, there a
re those who also seek the blessings of the NPA and the MILF. When you are in t
he so-called rebel-controlled areas there is no choice if you want to garner mo
re votes - you have to befriend the controlling forces. Do they really deliver
votes? This might be a good subject of research for the SWS and other research
groups.

The INC, in principle and in doctrine do observe unity in the ballot, in fulfil
lment of their faith and obedience to what the Lord Christ Jesus Himself orders
, "...give unto Caesar what is to Caesar, and to God what is to God..."

To vote is giving what is unto Caesar, and to be one and united is giving what
is to God.

The INC fully believes that before the eyes of God, the Iglesia Ni Cristo is ju
st one body, a "one new man" as termed by the Bible, being Christ the head, and
the Church, his body. Hence, being only one man, therefore it is but logical,
both secular and spiritual, for INC to have a united line-up when it casts its
vote, whatever the consequences be. Whether or not the candidates selected win
or loss, as long as the INC achieved unity, it achieves far more than just vic
tory, it achieves glory for God and for Christ Jesus.

"One body, one faith, one hope, one Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus, and only one
true God, the Father."

Let us face it.those things are open but the people are also wise. THEY CHOOSE
THE BEST CANDIDATES ALSO.

ONE MORE THING, IF A VILLAGE IS BLESSED, MEANING THE PEOPLE ARE GOD FEARING, TH
EN IT FOLLOWS THAT GOD WILL ALWAYS GUIDE THEM IN CHOOSING THEIR CANDIDATE.

I myself is a wife of a village chairman. and every night I pray for my village
folks so our place is always peaceful and I KNOW GOD IS ALWAYS WATCHING US.Pra
yer is very powerful and everybody wants a peaceful place to live in.I PRAY FOR
OUR CHILDREN and the parents so our children will grow in a way we wanted them
to be.

If all these endorsements come with a price, I think our SK candidates are just
starting it all wrong.

I do not see anything wrong with seeking the blessing and endorsement of variou
s groups as long as it is clear to the various groups that no favors are being
committed this early. This is where we have to develop the leadership skills of
these young people to be able to bring various groups of differing interests t
ogehter and just be transparent in implementing programmes and projects that wi
ll benefit the less privileged among us.

What's happening here? Is the SK so politicized that they have to resort to the
same tactics as the "trapos?"
And then to the winners, there would be some "paki nga ito, paki nga yon" reque
sts that the winners cannot just let go, a "utang na loob".
The main objectives and goals of the SK will then be polluted by dirty politics
. Wala na ba tayong pag-asa talaga?

TO ALL
I know this to be out of place. Please bear with me. I just want to create aw
areness by choosing the latest topics.
Do consider Dr. Martin Bautista for the next elections obviously (a senatorial
candidate of âAng Kapatiranâ together with Adrian Sison and Zosimo Paredes). H
eâs a 45-year-old gastroenterologist in the US who came home after 17 years. Y
ou can see from his background that he truly means service. For those who find
him to be a hypocrite for working abroad, do understand heâs a family man who
needs to sustain his family, that he will be able to keep his independence by n
ot relying on public funds to support his family. He helps his countrymen in h
is capacity but itâs just not enough for there are millions of Filipinos. Itâs
a good start in Philippine Politics to have him and his party around.
I urge you to forward/text/inform all your contacts about them. I believe they
only lack exposure thatâs why Iâm doing this. But I canât do it alone so Iâm
appealing to everyoneâs help. If all will inform their contacts about them and
urge them as well to forward, we might hit a million.
We cannot afford to be indifferent now if we want meaningful change. Otherwise
we only have ourselves to blame. BUT TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

BTW, Iâve posted this on the different topics just to be sure.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace.
The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview
' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to wha
t you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and a
nother set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around
exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Soc
ial" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming
friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalg
amation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Tho
se concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public f
rom seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
