Accidentally in Gaming
Well, my first post and I didn’t know how to word it. Kiven said I should just hit the ground running. And here I am, doing just that.
Except my gaming history was more “hitting the ground” than actual running…
Hi everyone! I’m Minami and I stumbled onto gaming at a very young age–through the Game ‘n Watch! Cross my heart, I wasn’t very interested in videogames at first; I’d always assumed that it’s a guy sport. It didn’t help that I was all thumbs except at simple titles such as Tetris, Pinball and Mario. So I usually relegated myself to “audience” as I watched my then-videogame-obsessed, talented younger brother finish each and every one he got his eager little hands on. I’d ask him to do a Fatality or Babality on Mortal Kombat, or Ryu’s Haduken on Streetfighter. And (don’t tell him I said this) I’d be very impressed every single time, while pondering: “How the heck does he do it?! Why can’t I do it? Am I really this uncoordinated?”
Fast forward to twenty or so years, and whaddaya know? Most of my friends are GAMERS! A lot of them are girls, too. My brother now owns more than one gaming console. Everyone can’t live without internet, which was made worse when LevelUp released the widely popular online frenzy that is RO. All of a sudden, I was surrounded by people that had “MMORPG”, “DS” and “WoW” in their primary vocabulary. What can one girl do?
I wrote for GAME!
Right now, I still can’t match my brother’s gaming, but I’ve gotten a few gaming moves of my own. I’m into NDS, some MMOs and the WoW TCG, the next expansion of which is going to be launched later this month! So many games, so many accidents to get into. Can’t wait.
