EA, Nintendo Wii and PS3 at Games Convention Asia

Gamers are in for big delights at the upcoming Games Convention Asia, touted as one of the biggest gaming conventions in the region, as organizers reveal three major highlights of the event: Electronic Arts, the Nintendo Wii, and the Sony Playstation 3. Does that sound vague? Read on.

Electronic Arts, publisher of topnotch PC games like Need For Speed and the Sims series, will have a major presence at the exhibition, displaying game titles for all major platforms.

Console gamers will surely enjoy the official launch of the phenomenal Nintendo Wii and the Sony showcase of latest developments in the Playstation world.

“It is our pleasure to have garnered the support of these three big industry players for the GCA 2007, despite this being the first show. Their support is very crucial to the fledging games industry in Asia. The wide range of offerings that cater to both gamers and the general public will cement the event as the premier gaming convention and exhibition in the Asia-Pacific Region,” said Steven Tan, senior exhibition manager of Conference and Exhibition Management Services.

“We are also pleased to have with us Nokia NGage, Blizzard Entertainment, AMD, 10tacle Studios, Razer, Asiasoft (a local online games distributor of World of Warcraft, Pangya and Maplestory), and many other game companies.”

The hottest and coolest games from Electronic Arts will be on show at GCA 2007, so gamers who have eagerly been tracking these titles since the E3 event in July will get an opportunity to try many of these titles out.

Keep your fingers crossed (and on the trigger buttons) for blockbusters that include the popular soccer game FIFA 08 appearing on just about every game console you might own, and Rock Band, a musical game that will come with special controllers in the shape of guitars and drums.

Other EA console titles that will be featured include Army of Two (PS3, Xbox 360), Boogie (Wii), Burnout Paradise (PS3, Xbox 360), EA Playground (Wii, DS), Half-Life 2: The Orange Box (PC, PS3, Xbox 360), Medal of Honor Airborne (PC, PS3, Xbox 360), Mercenaries 2: World in Flames (PS3, Xbox 360), MySims (Wii, DS), NASCAR 08 (PS3, Xbox 360, PS2), Need For Speed: ProStreet (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PC, PSP, DS), The Simpsons (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, DS), Skate (PS3, Xbox 360), and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PC).

Be on the lookout, however, for mobile and online game offerings from EA, the organizers said.

“We will have more focus on online, mobile and console or PC products that are more applicable to this region,” said Chris Thompson, EA vice president and general manager of Asia Publishing.

“EA Asia is the largest entertainment software company in the region, excluding Japan. With offices in eight countries, we offer the widest on-the-ground coverage and expertise of any company. Our knowledge of the market is very strong, and we offer co-publishing, distribution and publishing solutions to partner companies,? Thompson added.

EA is using the GCA as a platform to reach out and work with new partners.

MAxSoft, official distributor of Nintendo products in Singapore, will be officially launching the Nintendo Wii game console that has taken the world by storm.

The Wii uses a revolutionary, motion-sensing game controller that requires gamers to swing, poke and move about in order to play??no more sitting down and passively pushing buttons on a controller.

In other words, the old ?button mashing? stereotype of console gaming has been debunked by Nintendo’s new approach.

Sony will be showcasing the latest developments for the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Sony PlayStation Portable game consoles.
