PS3 sales zoom up amid price cut, Wii shortage

PS3

Weekly sales of Sony Playstation 3 doubled this week after a recent price cut and retail shortages of rival console Nintendo Wii.

According to an Associated Press report, the price cut led to the sale of 100,000 PS3s in just seven days in the United States.

Sony officials think this is the best opportunity for them to achieve a sales “breakthrough.” The PS3 had since lagged behind the Wii the past years due to the latter’s action-based interface and affordable pricing.

With PS3 prices getting near the Wii and Nintendo’s inability to meet demand, Sony may have found the best shot at dominating the market in time for the Christmas season.
