Who you gonna call?

Here’s an interesting development in the seeming convergence of Hollywood cinema and the gaming world.

The next chapter of the 1980s Hollywood blockbuster franchise “Ghostbusters” will emerge in video gaming consoles next year. What’s compelling is the participation of all the original actors and screenwriters of the film in the video game project, bankrolled by Sierra Entertainment in partnership with Sony Pictures Consumer Products.

“Ghostbusters: The Video Game” (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PC) will feature new plots and challenging missions that will pit Peter, Ray and Egon against a fresh line-up of ghouls and monsters, not without Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Slimer. According to press reports, the project featuring the original film talents will go beyond the voice-over and tap their creative talents in breathing life to the game. The film’s original screenwriters, Dan Aykroyd, who plays Ray in the film, and Harold Ramis, doc Egon in the flick, has reportedly agreed to not only play their characters in the game but also write the “gameplay”.

Bill Murray is also participating as the ever looney Peter. To make the cast complete, Ernie Hudson is also in the game as Winston.

Here are some teasers already flooding the Internet:

(Correction: The original post mentioned the character Winston as appearing only in the film sequel of Ghostbusters. In fact, Winston appeared in both the original and sequel of the film. Thanks to Enrique Jose Legaspi for informing us.)
