Did you know that under the 2008 Rules of Golf, you may now lift your ball for identification even if it’s in a hazard? They amended this because there is no more exemption from penalty for playing a wrong ball in a hazard. That’s right. You can get penalized now for playing a wrong ball from a hazard.
Another major change that the USGA and R&A implemented this year is the penalty for a ball in motion Deflected or Stopped By Player, Partner, Caddie or Equipment. Before January 1, 2008, in match play, the penalty is loss of hole and for stroke play its 2-strokes. They reduced the penalty in both match play and stroke play to one stroke only.
So for those guys who have not heard of the new Rules changes, you may want to read the new Rules of Golf for 2008 at either the USGA or R&A website.
Let’s play golf by the Rules!
