Still no word on Hellgate: London RP launch

UPDATE: Editor's note: Made corrections. Hellgate: London is an action role-playing game, not an online first-person shooter. Thanks to all the readers who pointed out the error. By Alex Villafania, hackenslash Reporter INQUIRER.net HELLGATE: LONDON may have been launched in Singapore already, but Filipino gamers may have to wait a bit longer for it to be available here -- if at all. Philippine online game publisher IP e-Games remains mum over any plans to introduce the first-person shooter action role-playing game in the Philippines, despite lengthy negotiations with Singaporean game distributor Infocomm Asia Holdings. "No comment," was the latest official statement from IPVG CEO Enrique Gonzalez when asked by hackenslash. IPVG is the parent company of IP e-Games. Regardless, the company sent hackenslash the official statement of IAH on the Hellgate: London regional launch, which was held on Oct. 31 in Singapore. The game was also launched concurrently in the US while the Australian and European launches will be held on Nov. 1 and 2, respectively. Apart from IAH, the game will also be distributed by Hanbitsoft of Korea and Electronic Arts in the US. Hellgate: London was developed by Flagship Studios whose executives are former developers of Blizzard and whose most successful brainchild is the role-playing game Diablo. The game is primarily an online first-person shooter game action RPG but has similar elements taken from Diablo. The game has both single-player and multiplayer components. The setting is a post-apocalyptic London that has been invaded by creatures from Hell. The Knights Templars of the Crusades have to help modern military leaders battle the demons that are able to shrug off even the most modern weaponry. The surviving Knights Templars have to revive the use of magic to fight the demons. The setting is a post-apocalyptic London that has been invaded by creatures from Hell. The surviving Knights Templars have to revive the use of magic to fight the demons. Hellgate: London will be a multiplayer online game, just like most of the games offered by IP e-Games. Incidentally, it will follow in the footsteps of WarRock, another modern first-person combat game already being distributed by rival firm Amped Games, a division of ABS-CBN Interactive. In a previous interview with hackenslash, IAH Deputy CEO David Ng said that they are "in the process of making arrangements" with IP e-Games. “But it will be in the Philippines,” Ng said.

Problem with the deal regarding Hellgate London is that Granado Espada did not get the hype it needed...So one side (either ipvg or IAH) is having second thoughts about introducing the game here sa Pinas.

Furthermore, since Warrock is already out there (and a Philippine server to boost), delikado rin magiging lagay nang Hellgate pag nagkataon. When you go play GE, one of the factors which discourages Pinoys from playing is that youd have to talk English. Most of the time, mga kausap mo, di pa marunong mag English. Ganito rin mangyayari sa Hellgate pag nagkataon.

Opinion ko lang po....hehehe.

the box costs 3k alone, plus the 10usd subscription. good luck ipvg.

if ever they bring this here it will be based on the costlier but free upfront korean model. but will it be enough? the sea server is already up and it is subscription based plus the cost of the box.

lol isiningit pa warrock, wala naman koneksyon. me bayad ba yang plug na yan?

Hellgate got leaked here in the Philippines a week ago (some confused store owner sold it earlier than the rest of the world). By the time hellgate launches here, I hope those game breaking bugs will be fixed. anyway, Im looking forward to getting my copy within 3-4 days from now. see ya guys in the game! and if you ever encounter problems and crashes while playing the game, feel free to drop me a message.

It's not an online first person shooter. It's an Action RPG like Diablo. You can set the camera to the first-person view, but most of the character classes will be better controlled with the third-person view.

I also heard DataBlitz already have copies for sale.

well it'll take a long time since the game is really good and expensive...^^

let's pray that e-games can bring it here before the end of the year XD

lol what does warrock have to do with anything?!

also the 10$ subscription is optional [may additional perks lang if u avail]

It doesn't matter how long I wait, nor whatever is going on within IPVG and IAH as far as the game is concerned. The important thing is that as soon as I have a copy, it'll be good to play a quality title even if I may have to shell out a few prepaid bucks for the experience.

@To GMT: The language barrier, not to mention the cost of paying for the game client and the possible monthly service may be actually a boon for some: it keeps out most of the spoiled, motor-mouthing, freebie-hunting rowdies off the game.

Pray that this game be payable by the month with prepaids (instead of WoW asking for a credit card number), rather than being free.

"The game is primarily an online first-person shooter game but has similar elements taken from Diablo"

And who praytell, told you that this was "primarily an online first-person shooter?" It's a hack n' slash action-RPG very similar to Diablo but in 3D, WITH elements of FPS for the Hunter class. However, even that won't require any twitch skills because damage and accuracy will still be skill/stat based.

Correction: Hellgate is not a first-person shooter. It's primarily an action-RPG (think Diablo but in 3D) where certain classes allow you to play the game in first-person.

The game doesn't even feel like a shooter. You aim and click, but you can almost imagine number-crunching happening under the hood.

Frankly, the game isn't very good. I've played it and it's quite unpolished. Here's my 2 cents:

http://www.fpsrantings.com/2007/10/26/hellgate-london-hands-on-demo-preview/

I've played hellgate and its far from the game play of warrock which is fast, its more like gears of war in an mmorpg environment. Its very dark and super high spec. The game crashed on me a couple of times and crashed on the developer who was walking us through it as well. What i played was a beta version so things may have changed from then. Its a good game if you like dark eerie places and have the comp specs for it. Huxley would be its competitor rather than WarRock. WarRock is more of a competitive fast paced skill FPS game while hellgate is a slower paced game RPG game with FPs elements. I dont think the two can really be compared to one another

@MIKE: The demo is poor indicator of the quality of the game. It does lack a bit of polish but the gameplay is surprisingly addictive. Despite the bugs, skeletal storyline, and repetitive quests, I found myself liking this game. And multiplayer has a lot more potential if only IAH Games gets their act together. They are still running the BETA client in their servers! However, the latest announcement promises to have the server patched to 0.1 by the 22nd. Don't keep your hopes up , though. IAH has yet to convince me of their competence and reliability. Also I think it's unfair to compare the marksman class with FPS shooters. This is still an RPG and twitch skills mean jacksh*t. Accuracy and damage dealt is still very much STAT-based.

Hellgate: London was labelled a blockbuster and claimed that it created a worldwide sensation to the world of online gamers but it definitely did not impress me much. The odd creatures were just too odd something too unoriginal going through the streets. I prefer some other war games like IGI or chosen space instead of something so unreal.

The Knights Templars of the Crusades have to help modern military leaders battle the demons that are able to shrug off even the most modern weaponry. The surviving Knights Templars have to revive the use of magic to fight the demons.
