THE PHILIPPINE leg of the worldwide release of the first booster for the trading card game Magic: The Gathering's Lorwyn series was successfully held in various hobby shops throughout the country this weekend.
The Morningtide booster set boasts of 150 new cards with randomly-inserted premium cards. It is available in booster packs of 15 cards each, preconstructed theme decks, and Fat Packs according to the Wizards of the Coast site. This number will increase the 301 cards contained in the Lorwyn set.
According to information from various hobby shops, stocks of the new set were nearly cleaned out during the launch parties. Small numbers of individual booster packs are still available in some hobby shops (i.e. Neutral Grounds Galleria). New deliveries are set to arrive within the week to keep up with the demand.
A box of boosters, containing 36 packs, is priced at P3, 950. Individual packs are priced at P150 each. Lorwyn tournament packs, which can be used as a starter deck, are priced at P500.
Magic: The Gathering is the most successful Collectible Card Game (CCG) in the world, and is the basis for most of the newer CCGs in the market today. It boasts of over 6, 000 different Magic cards and six million players in over 75 countries in the world.
