RP firm bullish about game sourcing

Fresh from its stint as a participant in the recently concluded 2009 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last month, MoAnima is confident that the Philippines will emerge as one of the leading global outsource destination for the games industry.

This year, more than 17,000 game industry professionals took part in world’s largest industry-only event.

As a Filipino gaming outsource company, MoAnima represented the Philippines in a series of meetings with leading game developers, publishers and other luminaries in the field.

Z-Zone to launch Oversoul

Online gaming publisher Z-Zone will be launching OverSoul: Courage for Supremecy.

OverSoul will only be the second game that Z-Zone will be introducing in the country. It previously introducd SkyBlade: Sword of the Heavens in 2006.

The game will be launched on March 7 at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

The company has already opened a portal where interested players can download the game client as part of the beta testing, which started in late 2008.

OverSoul will also be a 3D massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) similar to SkyBlade. The medieval fantasy story is focused on the battle of two tribes, the Drakhans and the Tantheons.

Each tribe would have four character types: the sword-wielding Warrior, the balanced Guardian, the magical Necromancer, and the summoner Wizard.

Amped announces Tantra II

MANILA, Philippines — After four years, game publisher Amped Games has finally announced the next iteration of their first massively-multiplayer online game Tantra.

Tantra II is set to start beta testing this November, in time for the company’s annual Amped Fest on November 21.

Tantra II is also developed by HanbitSoft. It will have the same eight tribes from the original but with more character attributes.

The maps in Tantra II have also been enlarged. Maps from the first game are also ported in Tantra II but are given bigger and better details. One new map is the Marana Dungeon where players have to eliminate all monsters in it before getting in-game certificates they could use to trade potions.

e-Games unveils mobile games for RP market

MAKATI CITY, Philippines – Online game publisher IP E-Game Ventures Inc (e-Games), mobile application developer Megamobile and 3D animation studio BeeHive digital launched new mobile Java games for the Philippine market.

IP E-Game Ventures is an online gaming subsidiary of publicly listed IPVG Corp., while Megamobile is a mobile application developer affiliated with IPVG Corp.

In a statement, E-Games said it is releasing three mobile games for its 3D massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) RAN Online and another three mobile games for Granado Espada, another MMORPG from famed legendary game producer Hakkyu Kim.

E-Games said these new mobile games were created exclusively for the Philippine market.

Intel invites Asian gaming journos, amateurs in gaming tilt

MANILA, Philippines — Intel is challenging Asia’s gaming journalists and amateur gamers to the first Intel Asia PC Gaming Showdown.

The event aims to showcase the best gamers from among gaming journalists in India, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Participants will play three PC games, including racing game Need for Speed Pro Street, first-person shooter Crysis and the soccer game FIFA 2008. All these games are developed by Electronic Arts.

Lisette Paras, account manager for Howorth, organizer of the competiton, said participants can only join following an invitation from Intel.
