Can you see it?

Eye see you."I SPY with my little eye, something red and shiny." Yes, you! I'm playing a game with you! Is there anything near you that's colored red and that shines? C'mon, look. I'm waiting. *taps foot* So you've seen it? Great! I knew there was such a thing near you. No, this isn't about E.S.P. It's about looking at things around you with fresh eyes, your fresh eyes. Everyday routine has trained us to see and watch out for the expected. When I look out my window, for example, I know I'll see jeepneys lined up one after the other, waiting for passengers to transport to the next town. I know I'll also see the same old rust-stained roofs of neighbors, the same city skyline, the same tricycles racing one after the other. Think about what you'll see outside your window when you get up from your computer. What do you expect to see? Try this little activity. Get up from your chair. I mean, now. ;) Go to your window and look at the view for a couple of seconds. Then come back to your desk and write down all the things you remember seeing. Here's what you do next. Take your list with you then go back to your window. What else do you see? Can you see what's right beside the fifth item that you wrote? How about what's behind the first item on your list? Look at the view with fresh eyes. As the line from the movie "Beauty and the Beast" goes, "There must be something there that wasn't there before." Our eyes typically dance over things we see everyday; perhaps we can engage them to dance with even more things. The details of everyday living can make for more interesting and refreshing stories. That is as long as you're not turning into a voyeur -- I'm certain you know the difference! When you have to deal with situations that make you go "same old, same old," why not ask yourself "What else is new about this? What is here that I haven't seen before?" Look deeper, look harder. Or remember that famous line from "Transformers" -- "More than meets the eye." So tell me, what did you see on your second trip to your window? What did you see with your fresh eyes?

Yes, there is more than meets the eye. I do my morning walk everyday. It is almost fall, the trees are turning yellow...in a few days the snow will come. Everyday, I see something different. Yesterday, were the ladies in line with big bunch of grasses on their heads...winter is just a few days ahead. Today...the girls in black dresses and white veils...all heading for school. During the Taliban time, they just stay in the house, no women should be seen outside of their homes. I see hope...everyday.

great suggestion! very instructive. :-)

More power to your column Happy Nest.It always makes my day Happy.I read your articles many times and I like reading it again and again.Long lived

This article made me recall my interview, I was trying to blow my brains off revising about every subject on the earth but to my amazement I was asked what are the things I saw at the reception? at that moment I thought the interviewers were looking for some amusement but later I realized that they wanted to know about my attention to details. We go around doing our work without giving attention to things around us but by trying to see and observing objects can be very helpful. By the way I was able to recall only 5 objects out of 7 but fortunately fortune smiled on me that day, since then I've realized how important it is to be aware of the things around us.
