Ash To Grass - A water-laced beauty rises in Pampanga
MOUNT Pinatubo’s cataclysmic eruption in 1991 covered the whole of Pampanga with ash.
The years that followed became a period of agony and despair with the devastation brought by lahar adding to the woes of those owning vast tracts of land.
There was little hope they can see greenery ever again as the once rich fields turned into a virtual desert, most of them losing their livelihood.
But as the years went by, Pampanga recovered and became a bustling city once more.
One of the big projects to rise was the Beverly Hills subdivision of Sta. Lucia Realty.
And part of the development is an exciting golf course which is poised to become the playground of Kampapangan residents as well as local and foreign tourists.
Nine holes of the golf course designed by South African legend Gary Player are now ready for play with December as the most probably opening date.
Relatively flat, Beverly Place project director Engr.Wini Gob says the course can certainly be up to championship standards with bunkers all over and water in play in majority of the holes.
There is a monster hiding in every green as Malaysian shaperMike Singgaran carved the putting surfaces tough enough to supplement the challenge of the water hazards and sand traps.
Nine holes will never be enough to see the true beauty of this masterpiece with themajestic view of Mt. Arayat visible from most of the holes.
When completed, Gob believes that it will become one of the most challenging flat courses here.
Yes, indeed, the green grass of life has covered the dreaded ash of destruction at Beverly Place.
