They finally did it

jayvee@m-ph.comSo they finally did it - Samsung's SPH-2300 3 megapixel camera phone is finally announced in Korea. Shown in the photo is some Korean model chick holding the cameraphone front and backside. Similar in style to the Sony Ericsson S700, the front face resembles a camera while the back end sports a familar phone design. Samsung's 3MP Wonder This is also the very first phone in the market to have optical zoom integrated into the lens. Built-in flash as well as mini SD slot for storing images and other phone junk are some of its other features. The big question therefore is "will megapixel camera phones kill the low end digicam market?"I hear some news about a 6 megapixel cameraphone chip being manufactured as we speak. It's sort of like how the piracy industry in this country killed the video rental stores. Your comments are valuable to us.

Jayvee... are you sure that the picture shown is that of an SE S700? An early review from Mobile-Review.com (http://www.mobile-review.com/review/sonyericsson-s700-camera-en.shtml) shows an entirely different form factor.

Are you sure that the displayed phone on your entry is a SonyEricsson S700? The picture posted at mobile-review.com sure looks different.

hi bernie, I think jayvee was referring to the Samsung SPH-2300. =)

Ooops! My bad! hehehehehe...

thats the amazing thing with the S700. the front looks like a cybershot camera while the back (well if thats how we call it) looks like a PDA. this is because the device is neither a clamshell nor a candybar. its a new flip concept which i call the "propeler." hehe.

If the low-end digicam manufacturers adjust their prices, then they may not necessarily die. in my case id still find use for a 3mpixel cam since i really find no use for higher megapixels. most of the time i need to batch rename/resize them anyway for most practical purposes such as uploading to websites.

hopefully the manufacturers will start focusing on other matters, such as optics, form factor and manual asa controls (ala the old film based cams).

keep it up bro! :)

this will actually be good competition gary -- imagine a 3 megapixel camera costing only P5,000.00? wow! ok na yan! 3MP cameras nowadays from Olympus and Sony go for 10-11k pesos. I think this will be good for consumers.
