Did palmOne blow it with the T5?

I was taken aback by Palm users’ reactions to palmOne’s newly announced

I think the T5 bashing was mainly because of all the rumors being spread about what the T5 was supposed to have: Wifi, Cobalt, etc. Then to see PalmOne fall drastically short of their major expectations — well, I won’t really be surprised about their reactions.

Sure it looks like a T|E. But then, hey! If it isn’t for the fact that I only got my Zire 72 this year, I would have bought this baby instead! 256MB and memory that never fades away when your unit dies out on you? The nice thing about this is that they priced it the same as when they first release T3.

Its the not-so-good “mine is better than yours” attitude that drives the ranting, don’t you think?

Compared to the current crop of PalmOne PDAs, the Tungsten|T5 is indeed a PDA to reckon with. Its rich feature set is impressive. The inclusion of a more powerful batteries is also appreciated

With the recent exit of Sony from the Palm scene (at least in the U.S.), PalmOne should’ve taken the void created and release PDA’s that packs a proverbial “whallop”. PDA’s released by their main competition (which is *ALL* PPC manufacturers) are leaving the PalmOne PDAs in terms of features and functions. PPCs priced similarly with the introductory price of the T5 already sport a wi-fi radio — among other features.

I do hope that those who are loyal to the “Zen of Palm” retain their loyalty despite this seemingly dissapointing release of the T5… otherwise once a Palm User switches to the “Dark Side”, it may not be as easy luring him back since switching to a different platform not only involves the act itself but also the conversion of data, the acquisition of 3rd-party apps and accessories, which are not cheap when taken as a whole.
