Motorola gives some lovin’ to local LINUX users

In case you guys didn’t know (cause I sure as hell didn’t), Motorola has released their latest LINUX powered smartphone onto the unsuspecting Filipino masses.

Ian Garcia of Brightpoint Philippines dropped by my office for an informal meeting and at the same time, gave me a hands on test with the Motorola A768i. This baby has a lot of things going for it, it’s small, has Bluetooth, POP3/SMTP mail client, a 65K color display with a resolution of 240 x 320, and that’s just the scratching the surface of what this mega smartphone has to offer. I forgot the exact retail price but it’s priced below P30,000.

Here’s a couple of pictures of the Motorola A768i beside the Anextek Pocket PC Phone:

always been curious about linux.

maybe this is something sacha chua will get :D

It also has camera, video capture up to 5 minutes and the to top it off, here’s the coolest: SMS Recitation

Hi Ian! Nice to see you dropping by the m|ph blog :)
SMS Recitation? You mean the A768i can audibly read back your text messages?

SMS recitation? whats that? like spelling the words for you? or you spell out the words for it?

hey ian would love to give that baby a spin :) si howard lang? tee hee!

I’d love to get my hands on one of those *but* so far, only two apps are available at the motorola site. Will other handheld linux device apps run on this baby?

A linux smartphone!? Nice!!! But the phone design is quite ugly, reminds me of old Palm handhelds.

Yup, you read it right, reciting the letters or words for you. Kinda just a novelty but may be useful, you’ll never know..

Howard, still working on that demo unit so you and the other guys (Jayveef) can play around with it.

ooohh… pretty nifty. where is it available? and how does the interface compare? any reviews in the next issue? :)

You can check this baby out at the Motorola store in the newly opened DX(Digital eXchange) in Glorietta.
