Nokia 7710: Boldy go where no one has gone before!

7710

To celebrate Bush’s re-election, Nokia Philippines gives us this scoop on the much awaited 7710 touch-screen mobile media phone.

It will retail for a billion dollars! Just kidding.

Although first impressions make me want to get my hands on this data pad, there was one thing I overlooked, or rather Nokia might have overlooked if they studied the local tech lifestyle: Pinoys love surfing through Wi-Fi, and not EDGE (which is already under implementation, sans major public marketing) . Of course I may be wrong here, because Nokia seems to release even the kitchen sink and someone still ends up buying it. But seriously, the design is kick-ass.

Oh, and being a Trekkie, my theory on mobile gadgets is that design will inevitably lead to the Star Trek Communicator, Datapad and Tricorder. In this case it’s the datapad.

Mobile Media Phone with the following resources:

Its a real heavyweight (189g/ 143 cc >> 69.5 x 128 x 19.5 mm) with talktime of 10 hours (dont worry its front talking) and stanbdy time exceeding 10 days.

Tri-Corder? Well, Palm has beaten Nokia to it — just look at the original Palm III design (wants to make me say “Beam me up, Jayvee!).

But seriously, this looks like a promising gadget *IF* it proves compatible with other mobile devices like stand-alone PDAs and Notebooks.

aha! you fell for my trap! the palm resembles a tricorder but the 7710 resembles the data pad. there’s a big difference! :D

@jayvee: but the Tricorder is *the* quintessential trekkie gadget. Datapads can be seen on other sci-fi shows but only the Tricorder is exclusively identified with Captains Kirk and Picard

true, but the data pad was still an essential trekkie apparatus because it worked in conjunction with the tricorder.

oh no here we go with sci-fi debates… i know how this will end up in a flame war! hehehe.

Just when is the Nokia 7710 going to be released in this beloved motherland… the philippines… I’ve been dying and have died and have died again waiting for its arrival…
I hope someone could help me out… the nokia distributors are of no help.

does anyone know when this nokia 7710 will be released here in the Philippines?
